PA 19 fo How much sleep is enough? That depends on the individual. We all know people who perk along on a short ration of sleep. Some people need more, some less. No‘one seems to know why, If your sleep debt keeps increasing, the doctor warns, there may be a tendency toward ‘"loss of reality sense.‘"‘ Fantasy blends into fact and you may imagine all sorts of things are wrong with you. The examination reveals no physical defects to acâ€" count for your symptoms. The doctor suspects and you confirm that you have been short on sleep these past months. Seasonal ills which afflicted all members of the family compounded your workload. You were the nurseâ€"inâ€"chief. The family physician reports the familiar scene of a checkâ€"up. "I‘m so tired all the time, doctor, I feel I‘m getting old, but I‘m only 38. This morning at breakfast, I spilled my cup of coffee. Then I lost my temper and banged my fist on the table. For no reason at all, I want to yell at everybody. What‘s wrong with me?" You‘ll _ recognize the symptoms when you‘re inefficient, you have acâ€" cidents in the kitchen, and you‘re unusually irritable. Sleep Cheats are those who don‘t get to sleep early enough. With the family tucked in, there is the temptation to relax with a late television program, to read a magazine or to wait up for Susie of Johnnie. Months of this routine ‘and you‘ve become a Sleep Cheat. Busy bee homemakers are often Sleep Cheats and their sleep shortages show up in a number of ways, medical opinion states. First down to breakfast, the last to retire, it‘s a wise woman who knows the beauty value of sleep. The least expensive of the beautifiers, sleep bestows the dewy glow of health and youth. Homemaker‘s Helper The Ormsbys, Ken and Paulette, present romantic rhythms on ice in this year‘s Ice Follies of 1970 appearing at the Maple Leaf Gardens for a Twoâ€"Week run beginning January 20 through Februsary 1. The North American and Canadian Ice Dance Champions demonstrate their grace and agility. PAGE 6 by Charlotte Brown Most doctors agree with Shakespeare that sleep is a basic nourishment. So use it to freshen up body and spirit. You‘ve earned it. If you find that you can‘t get to bed early enough at night, try to sleep a little later in the mornings or organize your daily chores so that you can take a nap in the afternoons. One good way to tell how much sleep is enough for you is to try getting up in the morning without an alarm clock for a while. If you wake up without the alarm, and if you don‘t doze off during the day, you‘ve gone to bed at the right time. Work out your sleep needs over a stretch of several weeks to arrive at an accurate average. But remember _ that your requirements will vary with your routine and your acâ€" tivities. The more tired you are, the more sleep you need. but it may be that the fiveâ€" andâ€"six hour sleepers are better able to resist fatigue. LEASE EXPIRING SALE _ _ EVERYTHING MUST GO . . . "And that means not buying little odds and ends you don‘t need." His knowledge of finances comes in handy as the Ormâ€" sbys attempt to keep ahead of the inflationary trend, just like any other couple. Ken has taken two courses from the New York Institute of Finance and needs only one final step â€" onmtheâ€" ground training with a brokerage firm â€" to become a stock broker himself. Paulette, 2%6, gives her spare time to help other skaters with a new ‘or inâ€" needâ€"ofâ€"repair hairâ€"do. She‘s an expert at styling wiglets, falls and hairâ€"pieces. Spare time finds Ken, 27, deep in the Wall Street Journal, keeping his knowâ€" ledge of the stock market current. When the Ormsbys are not keeping their own routines polished, they «help other skaters in the show prepare for their dance tests. Fortyâ€" nine skaters qualified last year, thanks to the guidance of the Ormsbys. The color...and the knowâ€" how earned the pair a second spot in the 1946 World Championships. "It‘s a good color," said Paulette, "It‘s psychologicâ€" ally geared to make people happy." This year‘s number finds the couple decked out in cranberry red costumes which blend their moves into one as they skim rhythmâ€" ically across the ice. "If you have a talent and you don‘t see many people around who can do what you can, you have to just believe in yourself," said Ken. The husbandâ€"wife skating team will appear here with Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies of 1970 at the Maple Leaf Gardens for Twoâ€"Week performances through February 1st. Ken and Paulette Ormsby, one of the hottest dance pairs on ice, call this philosophy the most important preâ€" requisite to success. ‘*You really have to think you‘re going to make it or you won‘t."
