PA 19 fo pJ After the Christmas season, Santa Claus turns over the operation of the workshop to Arnold Ulin for the remainder of the year. Mr. Ulin makes custom furniture in the shop behind the big wagon wheels. He spends many weeks before Christmas making fascinatâ€" ing toys from scraps of wood and other accumulated material, and donates the ERNIE‘S SHELL CENTRE His is an open door to young visitors, who throng the Workshop to browse among the toys and are even invited to help to make them. A sign over a door reads, in part ... We would not deny any child a myth or any beautiful belief they may have. ++â€"+ The Spirit of Christmas personified was seen by many of our small citizens in Santa‘s Workshop at 4 Rosemount Ave. this holiday season. Beribboned candy canes were outside the door, and behind the frosted window panes the jolly old gentleman himself in red coat and whiskers was busily engaged in making toys for less fortunate children. A happy and peaceful New Year to all, and especially those _ communityâ€"minded people who have wandered through Weston and sugâ€" gested items for this column. Thank you for being so helpâ€" ful, and we‘ll meet again in 1970. William McLeod of Keele Street is shown here giving his twentyâ€"third blood donation at a recent clinic held at Crang Plaza. Many more volunteers are needed according to the North York Branch of the Red Cross Society and one of the benefits of giving seem to be having a pretty nurse to hold your hand if necessary. deri margaret leeper 241â€"6394 2562 Weston Rd. It seems there is some reluctanze on the part of older people to become inâ€" volved in the photo idenâ€" tification and documentation considered essential to the program. Visualizing a warm, sunny day in Spring, a visit, say, to the Allan Gardens, Art Gallery or other distant points of inâ€" terest, outings foregone too often because of tranâ€" sportation cost, isn‘t it worth a little invonvenience to have such expense cut in half? Heavy snow and icy conditions were blamed, and certainly it is a time of year when travelling for elderly people is not too attractive. However, the establishment of locations in the Boroughs where registrations may be made will likely bring a better turnout. York‘s Centennial _ Centre _ on Eglinton is a convenient location for this area, and registration dates are Jan. 5â€" 10 inclusive. +++ Authorities have reported a slow response to the proâ€" gram providing halfâ€"price transit fares for Senior Citizens, and the turnout at the old City Hall in Toronto was lighter than expected at the end of its first week of operation.
