What does God give? God, Mind, guves us His thoughts. The Bible teaches that God is Love; hence His thoughts are always loving and helpful. Entertained in con- sciousness, they encourage, sustain, invigorate. They bless us and give us joy and New member for tax committee A committee established by York council last October to investigate municipal tax collection procedures will continue with its task through the coming year. The committee when named included Mayor Philip White and Controller James Trimbee and then Controller Wesley Bod- dington. A new member will be named to replace Mr. Boddington who lost out December 1 in a bid for the mayor's chair. The committee was for- med following a charge that former Mayor Jack Mould had an interest in a bylaw that wrote off taxes owed by a number of companies and individuals. Mr. Mould made it clear that he had no in- terest in any company named in the bylaw. The committee held one meeting in November to consider a report from treasurer George Mitchell on the problems York has in collecting taxes and procedures used in tax We all wish to be happy, Two board appointees by York council have bowed out of the jobs both pleading lack of time. Former Mayor Jack Mould was named to the Planning Board during council caucus on December 29 but Mr. Mould sent a letter to borough clerk Herbert Courtman saying he did not have time for the job. - Mrs. Ruth Russell said she could not accept the appoint- ment to the Community Centres Board as she will become a member of York Housing Co. Ltd., which manages the low-rental Beech-Hall apartments and would not have time for both jobs. Council has reduced the board from seven to five members and Alderman Gordon Keyes has agreed not to serve to permit the reduction. Cedarvale Ratepayers Association vice president, Jules Berman, has been named in place of Mr. Mould. York Federation of Ratepayers Association had made preparations for a protest meeting on hearing Two board changes bf the appointinent of Mr. Mould. Happiness comes from within To look to mttteriality, to material possessions, wealth, travel, tsport - to something outside oneself, outside one's own con- sciousness - for happiness is to look in vain. Happiness is man’s natural state " the image and likeness of God. No physical action or' change of environment can induce real happiness, for happiness is entirely mental, and "only what God gives . . . confers happiness." Since God is everywhere and all- powerful, one can never be separated from His thoughts, from true ham "V Christ Jesus stated that the kingdom of heaven is within us, that is, within our collection. A full report was not available. The treasurer will make a more extensive report in the next few months. One certainty is that York will sharply increase its prescribed penalty for tax delinquents. Additional staff from the treasury depart- ment may also be found necessary as a result of the committee's investigation. TOYOTA SALES' PARTS'SEBVICE - v - v -- - NORTH JlilllillMi?
