Radio highlights Two plays by Vancouver writer Elizabeth Lambert dramatically point up the deceptions that some fainilies create within themâ€" selves in order to disguise their true nature. They will be presented on succeeding weeks on CBC Tuesday Night at 8:03 p.m. EST on the CBC radio network. The first, to be heard March 3, is Once Burnt, Twice Shy, a savage but very funny comedy about a small town family which disguises their heartlessness and the stuffy nature of their morals beneath a veneer of lower middleâ€"class respectability. The second, to be broadâ€" cast March 10, is The Visitor, a play about family life illustrating the manner in which a woman disguises a cruel and dominating nature under a pretended solicitude and sweetness. The heroine is the kind of woman who, appearing to sacrifice herself to others, actually sacrifices them to herself. According to producer Norman Newton: "In both these plays she (Betty Lambert) reveals herself as possessing a psychological subtlety â€" rare among Canadian playwrights and a marvelous ability to pin her Many elderly people, who have a chronic illness have been able to remain in their own homes where they are happier, :because a V.O.N. nurse is calling regularly to give essential nursing care. At 13 she sold her first poems to a magazine. She has written one full length stage play, The Visitor (from which the March 10 production is adapted) and two plays for children, â€" The > Riddle Machine and Song of the Serpent, all of which have been produced in Vancouver. Newton feels that Elizabeth Lambert is "a writer of solid achievement and even greater promise, whose work deserves to be more widely known"‘. characters wriggling in their own cliches.
