A red fox was cornered and shot by Jim Price, from York Animal Control Centre, at Lambton Ave. and Weston Road on Sunday. Control officer George Banton said it was the first fox he had seen in York since he began working here 13 years ago. The animal is being tested for rabies although it seemed quite timid, Mr. Banton said. The fox could have arrived in the district via the Black Creek Valley. Constable J. R. Speaking of Mount Dennis . . Alderman Peter Bosa said that he felt this matter should be dealtwith as he was concerned "to see a greater rapport established between council and department herds." He said that the absence of the various heads had caused a low morale between these two groups. Newt Briefs This brought up the question of whether or not the matter should be referred back to the Board of Control. Precisely what the responsibilities of the Board of Control are became a question of controversy. It was suggested by Mayor White that "the time has come whereby we sit down and look at the functions and responsibilities of the Board of Control as they are set down in the (municipal) act." He said that he was not "looking for any other responsibilities and I cannot speak for other members of the Board of Control," Mayor White said he did not think this matter should be referred back to the Board. Council reached no con- clusion as to whether department heads should all be present at council meetings. + + + . Council discussed a bin- ding agreement between Weston and CNR which had been drawn up at one time guaranteeing the con- tinuation of train service between Weston and Metro. Alderman Hewitt said the agreement had been brought up in the House of Commons six or seven years ago when CN was considering a halt to the trains, and the result was that this service had to be continued. Borough Solicitor, HU. Boland said he had been looking into the matter in order to include it in a brief he is presenting at next council meeting. He said he had not been able to turn up the by-law but had found reference to the agreement. investigation matter. eontiiuing his n lhto the T%EWtlltrrtmmerttt pad everybody taken their knives to i mm store or mrpen: then mm. Mount Dennis was, at one time, a dusty, tobacco- spitting crossroads, some- where south ot the town of Weston and developing out of the old DennisEstate. In the days when a lone streetcar struggled its way up the Weston, Road to Weston, most of the tohacctrspitting was done around the Legion. There were no traffic problems. Houses were cheap and everybody had, one. Neither the air nor the Humber were polluted. They even hunted and fished down in the Eglinton Flats. Taxes were low. Competition was relaxed and nobody was in a Today Mount Dennis finds itself softening on the north- west edge of the city-proper waiting to be absorbed. Toronto claims we're already dead, and last year street maps appeared with- out the ever familiar name of Mount Dennis on them. The post office obliterates the name on any incoming mail and replaces it with either Toronto 9, or Weston. I will be writing about places, people and things of interest in Mount Dennis, past, present, and future.
