LO, To my way of thinking, Etobians certainly made the right choice. Go out to the club or eating spot of your choice, enjoy some of the finest food and en- tertainment in all of Metro, and when you come out, the air you breathe will be a lot cleaner than anywhere else in the city. While Eddie covered the east end of Metro in one CH- FI helicopter, Bob and I toured the west-end in the other. While flying over Etobicoke, the sun was shining bright and visibility was excellent. As we flew over the centre of the city, a grey smog covered the entire area, making one feel that you had just flown from one world to another. One of the bigger culprits as I saw it, was the Wellington Street incinerator. Smoke from the huge stacks poured out and drifted right over the main part of the city. Last Wednesday, Eddie arranged for me to fly a two hour stint in the CHFI helicopter with pilot- announcer Bob Carter. It was then that I realized just how bad downtown Toronto gets socked in with smog. The air pollution problem was brought to my attention first hand through the courtesy of Eddie Luther, the amiable director of CHFI radio's twin helicopters that direct many Etobians to and from the office daily with traffic reports from the 680 mark on the radio dial. Eddie Luther is a pioneer in the helicopter reporting field. He was the first an- nouncer to report from a helicopter in Canada, so he certainly has been able to see the ever rising pollution threat to Metropolitan Toronto first hand. Having just completed a quick tour of downtown Toronto, I am even more convinced that the finest eating spots, clubs and hotels are in this end of Metro. On the average, the en- tertainment out this way is also better than any other part of Metro, and there is also a greater variety. Two things that stand out in my mind in favour of Etobicoke are the fine 'evening out' spots available and the cleaner air to breath. Etobians live in Etobicoke by choice. They live here not because real estate and taxes are lower or because by-laws are lax. They live here because they feel that Etobicoke is a fine place to live, and it certainly is.
