held on Ascension Day evening, at St. Stephen‘s Anglican, Jane Street North. Five churches took part and filled the church to overflowing. Over 150 memâ€" bers from the five church choirs seng an inspiring service and anthem, under the direction of THE ADVERTISER â€" Thursday, May 14, 1964 â€" Page 11 Mr. Donald Brum and Miss V. Hume, in charge respectively of choirs at St. John‘s and St. David‘s Churches The clergy ol1 the five churches all assisted in the service and the Rev. McLelâ€" lan of St. Gabrell, Richmond Hill, gave a mose forceful and. practical sermon on the unlimitâ€" ed power of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost in the redemption . of menkind â€" and â€" his â€" transformaâ€" tion. The five churches taking port were St. _ Lawrence, St. imothyâ€"byâ€"theâ€"Humber, St. Daâ€" w1‘s, St. John‘s and St. Stepâ€" hen‘s. Mcunt Dennis Salvation Army band lead the procession from the school up Jane St. to church with banners flyving, pro cessioncl crosses and all vested under the command of Canon Adye. It was an announcement My husband and 1 were chatting with another couple when the subject came around to summer cotâ€" tages. Our friend had, at that time, two summer homes which he had laboured long and hard to build. Someâ€" one had irritated him with a passing remark about the luck of some people owning two summer homes besides a beautiful bungalow in town. Our friend had answerâ€" ed with tightened lips, "I worked for it." My mind instantly went to a portion of scripture which said, "Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God . . . lest when thou hast eaten and are full and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein, And thou say in thy heart. My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt reâ€" member the Lord thy God for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth." Some folks may argue and say that it is true that he worked for it; it was not given to him. But if we had been born in the Soviet Union we could have workâ€" ed 14 hours a day on a communal farm and still have had nothing we could call our own. It is true that it is God who gives us power to get wealthâ€" Have you noticed that one evangelist can preach a‘sermon and get few converts, whereas another evanâ€" gelist can get up and say practically the same things and yet hundreds of people will flock to the altar and be converted? The difference is the power. Power >osts. It was a service of witness L USISY Talking to a friend of mine who had been an alâ€" coholic I marvelled at his compassion for the degenerâ€" ate. One Christmas he could linger no longer amongst the happy festivities and left his family to wander down to skiq row to chat with his buddies, showing by his attitude and his words his concern for them. He has won several of his old cronies to the Lord simply beâ€" cause that is the work that God has called him to and empowered him to do. ~ wud. L0C 3 Hsy 3°! It was indeed a true service of witnessing. On Saturday, all day, repre sentatives of the five churches met at St. John‘s and discussed the new text book that will be introduced in 1965 for teaching in the church school. Rev. Stenâ€" hen Oliver was coâ€"ordinator and the Rev. Phillip Jefferson, the writer of the book, guided the discussions. Mrs. R. C.
