Belting out many of we claim taeourites in I lint nlong fashion, Miss Vale manag- ed to keep the room filled to capacity each night. Due to a previous engagement at the Steeles Tavern in downtown Toronto, the songstress will-be away from the Ascot for two weeks. Miss Vale has led a very in- teresting life, having been in- volved with music. acting and writing since the age of five. After studying piano, singing and balle r twelve years, she 'irii)i-'!i11)',iii, an actress Her first professional acting position was at Prudehomme's Garden Centre Theatre in 1960 Shortly afterwards. she appear- ed in a dramatized religious sen ies called 'Heritage' on the CBC Television Network. In November 1963, Miss Vale went to Newfoundland for six weeks and only six months ago did she return to her natrve city, Toronto. Miss Vale feels that the Brit- ish are more enthusiastic in their acceptance of the arts than are the Canadians. "Canadians are different -- possibly because they haven't got the heritage of culture that British people have. In a few years, when they learn to take entertainment for grant, ed. they will be very good. Sub. urban people are really differ, ent. The fact that entertainment is in their own neighbourhood doesn't make it quite' as excit- lng. There is no sense of dis. covery as there is when they go downtown," 'Charlie'. as Charlotte likes to be called, believes that it's a big mistake to keep an entertainer in one spot too long. "Their anr bitions are very limited, and they become too content. The greatest incentive to'an enter. tainer is a diffs-rent audience _ » you have to keep winning them over to your side. After a con we of months in one placc. Petr ple don't pay too much Mtem lion to you." she commented. Last April, Charlotte Vale was the guest star on an hour long Television show, ‘Alman tte' which originated in Ottawa on station CBOT. Her advice to would-be actors and actresses is. "make sure it's what you want, If you're in it to marry a mill, ionaite or for glory. forget it' It just doesn't happen, You must be prepared to sacrifice yourself in any of the arts.
