Before going on vacation two weeks ago, 1 mentioned that I might have something interestâ€" ing to tell you about our proâ€" posed visit to the House of Commons in Ottawa. Mr. James Walker, M.P. for York Centre, and of course, your representative in the Federal Government, made all seven of our family very elcome and arranged seats for us in the M.P.s Visitor‘s Gallery on the east side, where we could see the members of the Governâ€" ment in action. Mr. Walker, who is the Chief Government Whip, and whose office in Room 308B is next door to the Prime Minister‘s, was seated directly behind Mr. Pearâ€" son and Mr. Martin, in the secâ€" tion of the House designated for ‘‘The Cabinet". Directly â€" across _ from _ Mr Pearson, sat Mr. Diefenbaker, leader of the Opposition, and seated beside him was Mr. Nowâ€" lan. On the same side, but closer to the back of the House, were sections for the smaller opposiâ€" tion parties. Both Mr. Douglas and Mr. Thompson, leaders of two of these partics were preâ€" sent in the House. We were all quite fascinated with the role of the Debate Reâ€" porters, who sit at two desks in the centre isle, recording every word spoken, for Hansard â€" Parliament‘s official publicaâ€" tion. The reporters (the majorâ€" ity of whom are male), work about 15 minute shifts, some reâ€" cording on shorthand machines and some doing it the oldâ€"fashâ€" Weston Weston Magerman & Page Barristers > Solicitors 1630A Wilson Ave 247â€"2191 Crang Plaza Estate Funds Available For Mortgage Loans Barristers â€" Solicitors Geo.
