YÂ¥ & Art Group Fair & Auction In Thistletown The fifth annual Opportunity Fair and Art Auction held on a recent Saturday was reported to be a great success. Those who had worked so hard in preparaâ€" tion for the day were glad that the weather favoured them, for both the auction and fair were held outdoors in the grounds of Dr. Ann Curtin‘s home in Thisâ€" tletown. WESTON LIONS CLUB recently launâ€" ched its new membership drive by inâ€" ducting eight new members. The lucky winners of the draw held for three framed oil paint: ings, two still lifes and one landscape, were Nancy Hall of 58 Barkwin, Mrs. G. F. Malkin of 19 Riverdale Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Albarda of 140 Riverdale, all Thistletown residents. There were about 40 oil paint: ings in the auction, and the aucâ€" tioneer, Mr. Gordon Martin, alâ€" most wore his voice out in an attempt to get everyone interâ€" ested in the paintings. Besides the auction, which started after two. there were all kinds of white elephant tabâ€" les. a bake table and pantry shelf as woll as the tea table where ladies rested weary feet for a while. Dr. Curtin‘s garden at 34 Riverâ€" dale Dr., Thistletown, where it was thought such a success last year. The paintings and drawâ€" ings will be hung in the art centre being erected there, so that even rain will not hold up proceedings. Again the show will be held on both the Saturday and Sunâ€" day, October 3 and 4 from 26 p.m. with the official opening and presentation of the Frankâ€" lin Carmichael Award at 3 on Saturday. Mr. J. Albarda will be opening this, the 10th exhibi tion, and well known artist Gus Weisman, instructor of the Onâ€" tario College of Art, will be the adjudicator. Last year a new award was given at the show, the Palette Club plaque, which is presentâ€" ed to the winner for one year. The only students eligible . for this award are members of the Palette Club, who are past winâ€" ners of the Franklin Carmichael Award. As these students are not eligible for the Carmichael Award, this makes sure that new club members will all have a chance at winning it. There is no admittance fee, and the group‘s president, Mrs. S.
