One of the most useful drugs used in cancer treatment today is Vinâ€" blastine, developed from the leaves of the periwinkle plant by Canadian scientists working with funds conâ€" tributed to the Canadian Cancer Society. Donations to the Society‘s campaign will make possible more scientific advances for the betterment of all mankind. Eight ladies representing Weston‘s Riverside and Central United Churches will be among the members of the United Women‘s Choir and the King‘s Men when they _ present _ ‘"Spring Festival ‘71" at York Memorial Collegiate Wedâ€" nesday, April 28 and Friday, April 30. Performances begin at 8:15 p.m. The United _ Church Women‘s Choir of Toronto was founded in 1966 by its present director, Mrs. Lois Hamilton, ARCT. The singers are United Church ladies who represent 21 different _ churches _ in Toronto West Presbyterial. Since it was first organized, the choir has given more than 75 performances in cities and towns throughout Ontario. The King‘s Men are 10 gentlemen, also mostly from Toronto west end United Churches. _ They _ were organized in 1969 and have been busy singing since that time. Their name, The King‘s Men was chosen by the men because they feel that, through song, they are serving their King â€" Jesus Christ. They join with the choir on various occasions when full choir renditions are used. â€" The director of both choirs is Mrs. Lois Hamilton who grew up in Hamilton, Onâ€" tario, where she studied piano and singing and won many awards in festivals. She graduated from Mcâ€" Master University with her Bachelor of Artedegree, and a year later received the degree of ARCT qualifying her as a Teacher of Singing. As a soprano soloist, Mrs. Hamilton has sung in many churches in Ontario and Quebec.‘ The choirs have two talented accompanists. Once again, Mr. Peter Van de Velde was elected by acclamation to sit as president for another year. Savage, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation; Fred Howard, Director of Comâ€" munity Centres; and other representatives attended the Saturday evening perforâ€" mance of the Ice Show and paid tribute to Peter.
