This float was built by the members of the local with products manufactured by them, such as tissue flowers, toilet tissue streamers, etc., and showed great imagination. There are many prizes awarded in different categories in the parade and in the marching units, the Toronto Fire Department took first prize, the Scar- borough Fire Department came second and York Fire Department third. Leading the parade this year was a few government dignitaries, such as Mayor Bill Dennison, Alderman Tony O'Donohue, York Controller Doug Saunders & provincial NDP Leader, Stephen Lewis. While we all have the responsibility of speaking up about pollution, we should also be doing as well as complaining. In day-to-day living there are dozens of ways that the individual can help control air, water and other pollution. You can start with shopping prac- tices. As more and more pollution control devices and techniques are introduced by industry, it will undoubtedly mean higher-priced con- sumer goods tomorrow. But I believe that most citizens are prepared to pay that price for a cleaner en- vironment. Regardless of past short- sightedness, here in Ontario industry is generally showing an awareness of its ecological responsibilities. As I receive further in- formation I will pass it along to you so let's get out and march or sponsor someone to march in the Norwestern Walkathon, October 2 at 7:30 If you are asked to sponsor a walker please do so as the cause will further benefit your community. The hospital would like children who were born or treated at the hospital to take an active part in the walk or anyone who is interested. To help the target along, the Ladies Auxiliary is holding a walkathon on Saturday, October 2 starting at 7:30 a.m. from the back road of the hospital. The walk will cover 21 miles and briefly the route is south from the hospital to Eglinton and west to Royal York Road, north to Weston Road and on up to Finch Avenue, east along Finch and cutting down a couple of other streets to Bathurst, south on Bathurst to Lawrence, west along Lawrence to Keele, down past the hospital to Eglinton and west along Eglinton to the Centennial Building at 2694 Eglinton Avenue west. parison a new office on the other side, of the float, the new showed bright office furniture, a new typewriter, modern telephone equip- ment and, of course, let's not forget the pretty, mini- skirted secretary. The magazine put out a challenge to its association members in Canada and the United States to interpret the various signs with flowers. They were not to be replicas, but artistic interpretations of the signs. This fascination has led to expansion beyond the inside pages of the newspapers as the twelve signs of the zodiac can be found in art forms from costume jewelry and wallpaper to sweat shirts and body painting. A late- blooming entry in the art field is that of floral design. Most of these armchair consultations are taken in a spirit of fun, and few would ever admit in seriousness to their daily peak at Leo or Libra.
