Dogs, pigs, horses, cattle all carry their hair long. The farms, although not prosperous, appear neat and continously tended. Obviously a great amount of labor has been expended in clearing the land of rocks since all the fences are of stacked rocks. These fences are also of benefit in irrigation of the fields. In the lovely little town of Merida we took the teleferico to the summit of Mount Bolivar, some 16,000 feet high. The air is pretty thin up there; .. . there was some snow which was a great attraction to the Venezuelan tourists. Three quarters of the way up the mountain Indians have a town which is supported by their fields of potatos, maize and some hardy grain. We drove all the way down to San Cristobal which is close to the Colombia border. We took advantage of the proximity by driving over to the Colombian border town of Cucuta. Not much of a town, but we bought a few items for Christmas: prices are far more reasonable in Columbia than in Venezuela. Today is the day of the Blood Clinic at the Weston C.I. It depends on the formula. The Canadian Dental Association has named Crest and Colgate MFP as the ones acceptable to do a good job fighting decay. Brushing with any toothpaste or even just brushing with water is better than no brushing at all, but Crest and Colgate MFP can't be beat when it comes to preventing tooth decay. The dental profession in Canada recently made a radical shift in policy. It believes so strongly in the decay-fighting character- istics of fluorides, that it started to name commercial brands of toothpastes that are effective. Accidents in cars, organized athletics and in playgrounds are the most common causes of injuries to children's teeth. Disfigurement and loss of teeth can quickly shatter a child's mental self-image, because of the importance of the mouth in personality development. Dental Lopics Accidental tooth injuries among children make up one of the most perplexing problems confronting the dentist. Besides the usual diagnosing and treatment of the injury, the dentist must also relieve the shock, fears and apprehensions of both his young patient and the parents. More than half of the fractures of teeth in childhood accidents do not result in exposure of the central pulp of the tooth. But where the pulpis exposed, it is vital that the dentist protect this sensitive organ from further damage or when shopping for a Fluorides endorsed Immediate care Open your eyes house, a husband and wife will visit many models - as many as twelve over a weekend - before making their decision. Fluoridation has the endorsement also of Health Minister John Munro and the World Health Organization. The CDA recently released, figures showing only M per cent of Canadians receive benefits of fluoridation. Many Canadians live in remote areas without piped water supplies and they should be using the endorsed fluoride toothpastes regularly. Their dentists can also give their teeth fluoride baths at the office. In all cases of injury to teeth, parents should get their child to the dentist as soon as possible. But when the pulp is exposed, the parents should double their efforts to speed the child to the dentist. infection. The essential difference between a house and a home, says the council, is its heating syste n. Unless it has been designed accurately so that it is ba.anced, a house will be overheated and saga], or underheated and dr fty, the council warns. In some weird cases, it is both. Before buying, homebuyers should in- vestigate th , heating system thoroughly to make sure that most, if not all, heat distributors are on the outside walls, that ther- mostats are not near hot pipes, cold walls or in direct sunlight. Also make sure there is enough capacity to take care of future expansion, such as a finished attic or an add-on room.
