out. This was caused by a columnist who as usual leaves everything to the last minute and then, not knowing the name had to go ahead without it, due to the lack of time to find out. ++4+ There have been readers who have been asking for a couple of their favourite entertainers lately, as they are not to be found out around these parts as they have been in the past. The two who are asked for most are Bernie Black and Al Harris. Bernie Black is a longtime favourite of nightâ€"club patrons in this great westâ€" pend. Bernie has led his own trio and also a quartet in some of the local clubs, but he is never better when he is doing his own thing on the piano. He plays the piano, the organ, sings a few songs and spins a few lines, making him an all around good entertainer. Bernie can play it all, honkey tonk, jazz, classical, pop, you name it, he can play it. The newly reâ€"opened Les Cavaliers just south of Maple Leaf Gardens on Church Street was recommended as a fine dining spot for those that may be in the centre of Toronto and not know where there is an excellent place to dine. In that column one of the captains had his name mentioned and the other did not. John Ardoino is the capâ€" tain who had his name left Mr. Ardoino was with the former owners of Les Cavaliers for 10 years, and his _ excellent _ service acquired him a fine following of patrons. Mr. Pappas the new host, stated he was certainly pleased that John stayed on with them. _‘ The excellent service and cuisine makes the Les Cavaliers a Aâ€"1 spot to dine. There is one hazard about writing a column and that is leavirig someone‘s name out of the column who should have been in. This happened in this column last week. On stage every night in the Little Brown Jug Lourge at The Ascot Inn from February 14th to March 4th. We have an exciting new group "Gentle People‘" . . . 3 talented guys and a lovely girl vocalist bring you some real soul music. In the past the tavern was not up to the standards that some of us would have liked to have seen. Both the premises itself. and the clientele left quite a bit to be desired. All that has changed now and both the premises and the clientele are first rate. All that remains now is the name and I understand that is in the process of being changed also. s If you really want to say hello to them, it can all be done in one trip. They are all appearing at the Saphire Tavern on Richmond Street just east of Yonge. Bernie is entertaining during the cocktail hours from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and the Ina and Al Harris Trio play for listeners and dancers from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Ken and Larry are perfect hosts and their food is good, if you are downtown in Toronto drop in and say hello to them, Bernie or Ina and Al, I am sure they will be glad to see you and make your stay an enjoyable one. +++ Three cheers for the Heritage Inn, they are back on the right track again and each day everything there gets just a bit better than it was the day before. with Roger Doris Al Harris is probably one of the finest guitarists in Canada. He has played with all the great Canadian bands over the years. He has performed on radio, TV and throughout the world and his records can be heard quite regularily on the local radio stations. He has teamed up with his charming wife, Ina, who is a fine vocalist and along with drummer Larry Potter have come up with an excellent trio, which has been doing great the last couple of years. Both Bernie Black and the Ina and Al Harris Trio have played out this way for a long time and I can certainly understand why they are missed. Many a regular patron mourned the removal of the girl bartenders from the La Terraza Lounge. It was a move that saw the bar vacant most of the time from then on. That has changed now and two attractive and charming young ladies are back at the bar serving patrons once again. Norma McCormick, blonde and curvacious, works the day shift, while another beauty, a brunette, Angie Atkinson works the evening shift. The gals are both very charming and already they made many friends across the bar. C ul ++ Jose Peneira‘s Trio conâ€" tinues to build their regular dance crowd in the Conâ€" stellation Hotel‘s Banyan Terrace from (pm to 1 a.m. nightly.) Many exciting things are planned entertainment wise in the future, all things that should be most acceptable to patrons. _ _| ; On Saturday evening diners in the Burgundy Dining Room may dance to Jose between courses The Heritage Inn was a fine dining _ and _ enâ€" tertainment spot in the past, but in my opinion wrong management caused many a patron to go elsewhere. Wayne Quinton tried to carry the load alone but that is impossible and even his great efforts at public relations fell by the wayside. Now along with the new Innkeeper who is a most personable and amiable chap they will surely make a success of the Heritage Inn. Poneira,. who recéently recorded a CBC "Jazz Canadian‘‘ show in the Banyan Terrace has a steady following and the hotel is receiving nothing but cempliments on this classy group. A young man by the name of John Burg has taken over as Innkeeper and along with his able assistant Wayne Quinton, they have things rolling along in the right direction. Entertainment hy The Ken Stanley Trio has moved into the Valhalla Inn‘s Merry Mermaid Lounge for the next four weeks. Ken is a well known musician and is musical consultant for CFTOâ€"TV‘s Pig and Whistle Show. The trio is comprised of (left to right) \Coml Py Versafood Services Ltd. the company which operates the Heritage Inn on Rexdale Boulevard, has appointed a new Innkeeper at that hotel. He is 34 year old John Burg, who although is young in years, has plenty of exâ€" perience behind him. John Burg was born and educated in Holland but did most of his food and beverage training throughout Europe. He has worked in Switzerland, someplace quiet with expresso coffee GorstletnONtl New Innkeeper at Heritage The Magic Carpet Room overlooking â€" the lights of Toronto International Airport Dixon Rd. at the Airport Austria, Germany, France and England. It was just eight years ago that Mr. Burg came to Canada to seek employment in his profession. Since that He is a graduate of the Hotel Management School Den Haag and the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. bass player and vocalist Charlie Kent, pianist and vibe player Ken Stanley and drummer Reg Green.
