Pup 2-The Weslqn York Times. “My. Apt! 27, I972 From there it goes to the bag- houses which act like giant vacuum cleaners. The air then moves into the boiler where fumes and small particles left in the gases are burned. At this point it enters the steel stack where it is discharged into the atmosphere. Fumes are produced in the cup- ola and are carried from there through a duct to a cyclone. Spin- ning at a very high speed.the air drops any heavy material it contains. The air, still with gases and some lighter, particles, continues on to a heat exchanger which lowers the temperature of the air. The cupola in both the ball line and granulated line is the begin- ning of the manufacturing process at Weston. It could be called a large melting pot. In both processes the cupola is charged with coke, slag and extra additives. The gas-fired cupola along with the coke reduces the slag and additives to a molten state. As the material becomes hot enough to flow, it flows from the cupola via a spout to what is called the steam ring and rotor assembly. EMISSION AREA w PRESENT 1rl"lll""lllll"lllllll"""lllllllll1,islal CUPOLA (Photo by Don Roberts, Ontario Studios) i"iIhnIaanIuIgTT From this chamber the air passes up through a number of impinge- ment baffle pates over which is floated a blanket of scrubbing liquid. Air passes through the battles and is blasted into the scrubbing liquid As the air passes through the blanket, gases and small particulate matter are dissolved and carried away. Exhaust gases will enter the bot- tom of the scrubber and pass up through a chamber containing water sprays to remove the coarse parti- cles. The scrubbing liquid is then either set aside for solid settlement or passed through a screening pro- cess for reuse. ' Air discharged from this scrubber will be discharged to the atmos- phere through the existing steel stack. From the baghouses air will con- tinue on through a second fan through the boiler for fume incin- eration as it does at present. From there the air passes to a series of baghouses. (See detailed drawing on Page 4). One more bag- house will be added, which means that when the bags in one of the baghouses are being cleaned, the air will be cleaned with two bag- houses instead of one as in the present system. This will improve cleaning emciency l00 per cent. As a final measure to insure a superior job of both particulate and fune removal, the discharge from the fume burning boiler will be passed through a fluidized bed wet scrubber. The gases will go through a cy- clone but it will be a larger cy- clone to improve the collection efficiency of the system. It will collect the larger particulate emis. slons from the cupolas. These part- icles fall out in the bottom and are dumped into a waste box, The air will then continue on to the heat exchanger. This is a new, larger, more emcient exchanger to lower the temperature of the air so particulate matter can be re- moved in a series of baghouses. Under the proposed promm. the air coming from the cupolu in both the batt line and the granulated line will travel along the same ducts as before to a com- pletely rearranged and greatly im. proved collection system. But there is, in both user, Propcrinwlation can reduce fuel bills, Le. consumption of our precious natural resources can be lowered. And the same in. sulation can protect interiors from the oppressive heat of mid. summer. The volulion to both prob- lems is in use of the products A heating system might be working at full capacity, yet its efficiency could be impaired by improper insulation. The result, more and more fuel has to be burned to try and raise the comfort level. Conversely, in the summer time a house can be unbearably hot and there seems nothing that can be done about it. This serves as superior in- sulation for homes, schools and almbsl every type of conslmc- tion, Insulation saves energy At the left is the end prod- uct of the Bht Line. The Batt is spun wool enclosed in a paper envelope. This envelope is placed between the studs in a house, in the walls min the ceiling. A house is safer from fire became RED TOP Insulation u made from solid mineral matter. That's why it's so effective Is I (Ire Mop in walls Ind ceilings. RED TOP Insulation mls spaces High thermal performance is the chief advantage of RFO TOP Insulation. Just four inches of RED TOP Insulation gives in- sulation equal to l5 feet of concrete, 74 inches of common brick, 24 inches of plastic or II inches of pine board. The saving to the home own- er can be as high as 40 percent on winter fuel bills and IS percent on summer air com ditioning. manufactured at Canadian Gypsum Co., Weston plant. The product which comes off the Batt Line at the Oak St, Plant, RED TOP Insulation, reduces fire damage in homes, saves the owner money on fuel bills. If the furnaces of the nation operate for shorter periods. it reduces the amount of smoke and other gases being released Into the atmosphere. In both the batt line and the granulated line wool is pulled down into the conveyor belt at the bottom of the blowrooms by a suction underneath these conveyors, in " dition some air is removed from the top of the blowroom. The air being exhausted from the blowroom both underneath and above the wool blanket contains particulate matter and some gases. For this reason the exhaust from this equipment is run through a water wash. The ducts from the batt and granulated line blowchambers run into the water wash system. Solid materials are removed from the air and settle to the bottom. The air exits through the water wash system and passes on to the brick stack. The curing oven exhaust is pre- 'sently discharged through the wet wash system to the brick stack. PRESENT EMISSION AREA ' B' And RED TOP Insulation is a lifetime -- lifetime of the building -- installation. ll pro- teen the building permanently. ll needs no reNacerncnt or up- keep and is vermin resistant. The breather side is com- pletely enclosed in a durable porous Kraft paper which adds additional rigidity to the Ball. RED TOP Insulation also adds life to heating and cooling systems, adding another dollar bonus to homeowners. There's no extreme temperature on heat- ing and cooling units, so that winter or summer the equipment operates at a safer, more com- fortable pace. The batt is fully enclosed, except for the ends which are cut at the plant. One side has a strong asphalted paper vapor barrier designed to be installed towards the warm side of the room. between studs and attic joints thus blocking drafts and re taming spread of the fire. t'uimariruaananranauaraaau 1llllllllllllllMlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllmlillNmm BLOWR & CURING "tluauamirTuao Ellllllllmlllllllm Elllllllllmlllllllll Ellllllllllllllllllll Imolfriaiaavuu, oi'iiudrt' 'illiiiltlyimIu miiiiuAtlL {mum [llllllll
