. Page &â€"+The.Times, Thursday, July, Under the Act, which came into effect July 6, a mew health discipline â€" denture therapy â€" is established which permits qualified denture therapists to make dentures, to take oral imâ€" pressions and to determine what type of denture is needed providing he works out of a dentist‘s office, a dental clinic or in contact with a group of dentists. Are they a bunch of fiendish characters who have a diabolical plot to deform the mouths of all Ontarians? Mr. Potter‘s latest comunique informs us that results of a first examination of practicing denturists â€" 57 of them â€" "show concern for the public‘s well being is not been misplaced, as 42 percent of those who tried failed."‘ Are denturists inflicted with some kind of leprosy that they would spread from mouth to mouth on an unassuming public? It‘s like telling an automotive mechanic he can‘t work on a car unless one of the brass from Ford, or G.M. or Chrysler, or whatever, are in the garage. We fail to see how the Ontario Dental Association â€" a closed corporation of dentists â€" and the Ontario Government can continue to control the livlihood of denturists on the meagre argument of dental health care for the public. The Denturist Society of Ontario hHhas more than 200 members and they‘ve informed Potter and Davis that they won‘t sit for the examinations until the government alters the law and allows them to practice independently. What does the Health Minister expect from the group they‘ve tested? Who were the 57 who sat for the exam? And who conducted the tests? Surely Dr. Potter doesn‘t expect us to rally round the findings just handed down. And he‘s not getting the support of the dentists he‘s trying to mollycoddle. Let the denturists run their own show on the dentist‘s or doctors oral bill of health. A letter from Dr. Potter to Dr. R. L. Moran, president of the Ontario Dental Association, strongly advises that the dentists better get on the ball and make those $180 set of choppers to help Dr. Potter with "the successful operation of the whole program.‘"‘ Hats off to the denturists of Ontario. They‘re telling Ontario Health Minister Richard Potter and Premier William Davis just where to shove their old Bill 246. Other Countries $9.00 60 years ago The general money stigency felt throughout the country, must have struck Weston. The man on the street says that construction operations have been suspended on the sewage disposal plant in the Humber Valley, because money is very scarce. It is also reported that this tightness of money is felt about the new high school building. The town fathers must have taken a rapid pace, when town debentures can only be sold at great sacrifice. It is hoped that this is only temporary in character and that work will soon resume. It is important in the interests of public health that the works should be rushed to completion. 40 years ago > Little damage was reported throughout the Weston district as the result of last Friday afternoon‘s sudden Say ahhhhâ€" V.J. The most serious was that of a hydro pole located in front of the town hall which was struck by lightning, causing it to split. Crops in the district were laid level, but according to the growers, would come up again as they were not of sufficient height to be permanently injured. â€" 20 years ago Lawrence Avenue both east and west within the boundaries of the town of Weston may not: be designated as a Metropolitan road, it was revealed at the regular meeting of Weston town council Monday night. If the Metropolitan Roads Commission of Toronto does not take this busy thoroughfare under its wing it would mean an increased financial burden to the town, it was suggested at the meeting.
