Among the 59 bus routes the Dufferin line stood second in the number of delays in service. 78 over the past three months. Two bus routes operated by the TTC had only one delay during the three month period. in each case it was due to a parade. t Over 70 percent of all delays on TTC bus, street car. trollevy coach and subway routes during this period have been blamed by TTC officials on these two factors. The Rogers Road street car line had 10 delays during this period with over one half of the delays attributed to congestion or traffic accidents. The Weston Road trollev coach service had 28 delays with traffic congestion a major problem. Traffic congestion and traffic acâ€" cidents continue to be the two big reasons for delay in transit service according to a report on transit operations during the past three months. Metro legislation committee has recommended that the membership of the Metro licensing commission be increased by two, from three to five. This would give more citizen representation and in addition is part of Metro Chairman Godfrey‘s plan to review the structure of various Metro boards and commissions. The licensing commission is responsible for superâ€" vising over 80 different business ocâ€" cupations but spends about 70 percent of its time trying to keep control of the taxicab industry. The Weston branch of the Metro Toronto United Senior Citizens of Ontario has complained to Metro about the lack of drinking fountains at the CNE. The branch also notes a lack of seats‘in Exhibition Park. More public washrooms and more escalators in the Metro subway system is also a concern of the Weston group. The branch wants to meet with Metro executive comâ€" mittee. York Mayor Philip White last week nominated city alderman Ying Hope for the chairmanship of the Metro tranâ€" sportation committee but Hope didn‘t have a hope. Not since 1967 has a city politician been chairman of the tranâ€" sportation committee. A borough politician was named chairman of the committee to fill a vacancy caused by the promotion of Paul Godfrey to Metro chairman. The borough elected representatives are well aware of the city attitude toward Metro‘s road construction program and to them having a city politician as chairman of the transportation committee could only create problems. No Hurry No Hope No seats No say For the past three years the host borough has walked away with the top prize. Weather problems were responsible for a late start in the event and the tie in the mayors‘ competitions force and even late finish. Following the driving test comâ€" petitors and officials were treated to lunch at the Cafeteria of York Humber High School while the official results were being tabulated. The awarding of the silverware to the winners followed and the York boys went home carrying most of the trophies. Yorkâ€"We‘re number one The course features various obstacles designed to test the drivers‘ skill at manouevering their vehicles through what could be daily problems in their line of work: forward and backward curves; parallel parking in spaces hardly longer than their vehicles _ dock parking straight line driving and other specifics for particular vehicles like street sweepers who must whisk away sand from a simulated curved sidewalk. The Borough of York municipal drivers are the cream of Metro following their imâ€" pressive win at the interâ€"borough truck roadeo last Saturday. But not only that. They have the top two drivers around the region. John MacNeil, piloting his dump truck through a maze of obstacles was overall champion. He egotiated the course with a total of 264 points â€" out of a possible 300 â€" to lead all other drivers in all categories. C. Vardy, driving a packer, was top driver and in his category and helped North York win the team class in the packer division. N. The only awards not captured by either York or North York were the pickâ€"up team prize, which went to the Metro squad, and the dump team award, captured by Scarâ€" borough. The four events which go into an aggregate count to determine the top borough are in pickâ€"up, dump, packer and sweeper. The boys have to run through a series of skill testing situations and a written exam and all have to be accident free to enter the competitions. The best municipal driver in all of Metro is the Borough of York‘s John MacNeil.
