I 9# Sergt. Nathan Telford is reported to have died .of wounds after being wounded three times and winning the Military Medal. He was a Lancashire man, and had been in Canada three years. Before enlisting he resided at George Street, Mimico. He was 23 years of age. The names of Pte. â€"W. Johnston and Pte. G. Palmer, of Mimico, apâ€" pears on the wounded casualty list this week. Application has been granted to business men of New Toronto to form a Board of Trade. A provisional meetâ€" ing was held last week and arrangeâ€" ments made to hold a regular meetâ€" ing in the course of a week for the election of officers and other routine business. sSad news came in on the wire last night. It was f£o â€" Mrs. Sibbery of this place. son, H. Sibbery, is reported as kiled in action. He enâ€" listed while in the West two years ago and has been over in France ever since. The sympathy of all goes to his mother, who bears the great loss. Another son left yesterday with the 220th Battalion. Last Sunday evening, while Mr. Johnston was attending church at Woodbridge, his horse and buggy disâ€" appeared from the shed. The city police were notified and later in the week he discovered the missing aniâ€" mal and rig in the city and returned them to ‘the rightful owner. It is supposed a soldier and a couple of girls were the thieves, as Mr. Baker, constable for Mount Dennis, saw the trio driving on the Weston Road on Sunday night, but at that time did not know it was a stolen outfit. Up to date the police have been unable to locate any of the parties. M A business meeting was held by the Islington Epworth Leaguers on Monâ€" day night. McPherson; 2nd vice pres., Miss Gertrude Evans; 3rd vice pres., Miss Bessie Miller; 4th vice pres., Mr. Jno. A most successful choir concert was held in Islington under the auspices of St. George‘s Church a short time ago. Mr. W. A. Hyland, as chairman "for the evening, spoke a few words of welcome to the large number present before proceeding with the, progranmi. Miss Kennedy, Toronto, elocutionist; Miss C. Huse, Orangeville, violinist, accompanied by Miss Brown; Mr.â€"P. Harding, Orangeville, baritone, and Mr. J. Cropling, tenor, all contributâ€" ed to the evening‘s enjoyment, also the readings, solos, duets, and trios from the members of the Perth Ave. Trio were very much appreciated. ‘The choir, under the leadersiiip of Mr. Berry, and Miss McKim, organâ€" ist, assisted in rendering the spiendid entertainment. The regular monthly meeting of the Emery Ladies‘ War Auxiliary will be held in the Home Circle Hall, Enâ€" ery, on Wednesday, May 2nd. All the ladies of the vicinity are given a corâ€" dial invitation to attend. The regular meeting of the school board was held in the school house last week. After considerable disâ€" cussion a plan submitted by Chairâ€" man Fokens for beautifying the grounds was adopted. It was decidâ€" ed to enter upon the course of agriâ€" cultural stifly as sent out by the Deâ€" partment of Education. Several acâ€" counts were passed and other routine business transacted. * The many friends of Miss Foster will be glad to know that she is proâ€" gressing favbrably after her operation, although still confined to the hospiâ€" tal. On Monday a Chinaman and an ‘Armenian, both employees of the Canâ€" aAdian Nitro Product Co., were enâ€" gaged in a friendly scuffle, when acâ€" cidentally the Chinaman caught the other man in the eye, completing destroying it. is The Willing Workers‘ of St. George‘s Church, Islington, held a very sucâ€" cessful social at the home of Mrs. Jas. Phillips, on Wednesday afterâ€" noon. The committee in charge of the Harden. Benefit Concert have secured an array of excellent talent for their entertainment to be given on Friday night, April 27th. An evening of high class music is assured and a generous response asked for. These men have been under orders for some ten days. It looked like a farce, the coming out and saying farewell. The 220th men are all eager to change their camp.
