It should only be put into operation if the other is not practicable. Yet all will agree that something should be done. Business houses are painting up and special attention ig being given to the dressing of our store windows. The necessary step to-day is to see that the vacant lots are looked after and the boulevards cleaned. The attention of the railway should again be directed to their track. In several places it is im- possible to pass over them. Their contract calls for the proper filling in of these tracks. Therefore an effort should be made to have it done. All that is wanted is tohave this matter brought te their attention. This could easily be done by a letter from the council. . _ Again, some effort should be made to keep uniform the boulevards of our town. These are al- lowed to grow here and there. Some persons who are interested do make an effort to keep their front cleaned and cut. Their neighbor, however, does nothing and the effect is lost. Ninety per cent. of the people who know of Weston know of it only from what they see on the Main Street. They do not see the beautiful residences across the railway track. They do not see its lovely scenery on the Humber. They only see the Main Street. Therefore special attention should be devoted to our Main Street. The council should see that every bit of grass and weeds from one end of the street to the other is kept in a proper condition. There should exist a uniformity in all the fronts. This could be carried out in,two ways, first, the town could put into force a by-law that would compel all to keep up the boulevards. _The snow by-law is a similar Jaw. The boulevards by-law, however, would be useless unless it was enforced. The constable would have to see that the details are carried out to the letter of the law. _ Would it not be a good movffor the council to ordriifat"iii these lots' tplowed up at once. Yet this effect is spoilt by some corner lots and other large lots in our town to be nothing more than a weed producing ground. Last year these lots were allow- ed to grow wild. _ They produced a large crop of weed seed. This was scattered east and west, north and south. They ruin the lawn next door and beautiful gardens. They fill the sides of our streets with weeds that are no ornament. All of these vacant and ‘uncultivated lots are now, growing very fast. The rains and splendid growing weather of the last week tends to give a big crop‘on these lots. Would it not be a good move for the council to rurrLar tlntar all man. Several factories are negotiating for sites to l; with favor by these, manufacturers. Don’t let some company come in f cream. . . t Are the people of Weston too conservative in their ideas or is it a case of lost faith in their town? Many excuses are given to-day why Weston does not increase its population., The chief one, how- ever, is the lack of house accommodation. Weston needs homes for working men. Wemust have a house to put them in if they are to live here. The big cry is everything is so dear. Wait till after the War, then labor will be cheaper. Or again, it does not pay to build houses to rent. ' All these:cries are no doubt more or.1ess true. If the world, however, operated on the same policy, what would be our position to-day? If business houses tried to do business in the same style, what kind of business would we have? You realize the old saying, “Nothing venture nothing win" is true. You all know what happened to the man who buried his talent. Yet no effort is made to start some building" operation. The cause must be that you have no faith in your town. This is a bad condition. The man who has no faith in the growth and development of his town is dead. He wants to take a trip around to the surrounding district.
