_ihs:.ie, TPI Liz: £4 v','fif; r' _The advisability _td organizing a I, branch of the War Veterans' Associa- P. tionds being discussed in Mount Den- _ ms. As over a quarter of the popu- lation have enlisted and many of these . ”brave fellows have paid the supreme sacrifice and others have been invalid- "ed home, it is believed the society " could render effectual service in look- W ’ing' after military matters connected with the soldiers' families, both at home and headquarters. At present “the resident clergymen are. often call- "ed upon to answer enquiries relative to these questions, which they feel could be more adequately dealt with by an association organized for the purpose. VF The members of J. ll, Findlay Lodge No. 2527 entertained their wives and friendiFatt the Lodge rooms, Goddard & Marshall's Hall, last Tues- day. The splendid programme con- tributed by Mrs. A.:Taylor, Misses B. Etanfsbury, M. Farquhar, M. Hor- -trick, Mr. J. A. Levack, Bros. Mac- kenzie and the lodge quartette, was appreciated by all, A very pleasing feature of the evening was a presenta- tion made by P. M. Wor. Bro. Dr. Sproule to Wor. Bro. Legrow, who was a charter member of the lodge. The serving ot dainty refreshments brought the gathering to a close. Another opportunity to help out in Red Cross work-Take in the grand musical concert given in Mount Den- nis Methodist Church on Thursday night, March 14th. Your 250 will send comfort to some wounded boy overseas. A joint meeting of the Methodist and,Presbyterian Church Young Peo- ple’s Societies was held last week in the Methodist Church. Mr. Harry Jordan presided. At the close of the After an illness of three weeks the death occurred at her home, 45 Lamb- ton Ave., ot Isabella; Wishart, daugh- ter of Mr. ahd Mrs. Robert Wishart. Deceased was 15 years of age and a very aétive worker in Mount Dennis Presbyterian-Church, also a teacher in the Sunday School. Funeral ser- vices were held at _her late residence devotion‘al exercises a social hour was enjoyed by all. w Tenders for a six room addition to) the front of the present school are called tor by the York Township' Council. This is the decision of the trustees of School Section No. 28, Mt. Dennis. Conditions at the lower end of the section are such that the pres- ent 10 room school and two portable rooms are overcrowded. Two classes are being held in the theatre and an- other in the Silverthorne school, All have classes far too large, some hat. ing over 50 pupils. The proposal is to build this addition in front of the school. This will give them a 16 room school almost to the sidewalk line. V 'ter it has been completed and about $60,000 spent, will it fulfill the re- quirements? At present there are five classes ready to occupy it. Would it not be better policy to build the school over near the centre of the -district to be served, namely, west of Roselands and near the top of the hill. A new six room school built here would, be a better place-to spend ~$60,000 on than the place selected. It would service the public and rooms could be added as required. Enough land could be secured to build these additions. The present plan is only a makeshift. The ratepayers should take the matter up and look into it thoroughly. . ' on M01165, Ltternoa. Interment took place in Prospect Cemetery: The annual meeting of the Downs- view 1til'lty Club will be held at the home of Mrs. Frank Hopper on Fri- day night, March 15th. A full attend- ance of members is requested. Elec- tions of officers for the coming year and other matters ot business will be discussed. A The Elia branch of the Women's Institute will hold their monthly meeting at the home of Miss B. Hoov- er on Wednesday, March 20, Mrs. Adams will assist with the program. A cordial invitation extended to all the ladies of the vicinity to attend. The Farmers' Club held their monthly business meeting in the school room of the church last Fri- day. The increased interest taken by the community in this organization is very gratifying, two new members be- ing added to the roll. Orders were made out .for the season’s supply of grass and root seeds. The usual weekly social evening of the Downsview Euchre Club was held last Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carruthers. At the close of an interesting game first favors were awarded. Mrs. Clendan- nan and Mr. E. Baggs, Mrs. Hopper and Mr. Arlington Tomlinson were the consolation winners for the evening. This week the club will be entertain- ed by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Carruthers. The Richview Women’s Institute friends to the number ot forty made a jolly sleighing party to the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Dixon on Thurs- day last, March 7th. The occasion was a shower given by the Society to one of their members, Mrs. E. Piercy (nee Miss Laura Dixon). The many beautiful as well as useful gifts pre- sented her testified to the esteem in which she was held by her friends. Vocal and instrumental numbers con- tributed by several of the merry par- ty, also a. violin selection by the host, added greatly to the enjoyment of all. Tea was served and all departed after wishing the bride long life and help; piness in her new home and life. Mr. J. D. Lee has sold out his busi- ness to Mr. Bert Bundy. Mr. Bundy enters into the grocery business in enters into the grocery business in Weston with one object in view, name- ly, to serve the public. He has con- fidence that in Weston there is an opening for a. good, first class store if conducted on the proper basis. He is determined to get a. lot of business that is now going to Toronto. In do- ing this he should have the sympat- thy and co-operation of all citizens who are interested in Weston and its development. Watch tor his adver- tisements each week.
