It should be imperative that all the fronts of every house and vacant lot be cleanâ€" ed and all dirt moved. That all side entrances, back yards, cellars, etc., be cleaned. Also that Such is the ambition of the Weston Golf Club this year. They have at present 225 members and about 194 lady members. This is the greatâ€" est number that they have ever had.. The reason for the increase is this. Certain improvements are contemplated by the directors, such as extenâ€" sions to the present club house and the general accommodation, also the installing of hot water showers. All this requires a big outlay of money. As the club have reached their present position only by watching all their expenditure, so now they are making sure first. Our town has never fully appreciated the value of the Golf Club here. They have not looked uponâ€"it as an asset. It is, nevertheless, and a valuable one at that. Note how it has improved the value of the property. Note the number of men who have become good citizens of our town because the golf club is here. Watch the number of men that pass through our town to reach the club. All assist in making our town better known and also help to pay our taxes. At present our townspeople do not take any inâ€" terest in the club and its affairs. Here is a great opportunity for you to do so. Become one of the fifty new members.. The list will soon bey tompleted. Golf is the pastime of the day. Here: you have a good club with a fine course at your door. Why not join? Hand in your application before it is too late. se an inspection of the work be made on the folâ€" lowing Monday. All those who refuse to comâ€" ply with the request of the council be made to do so by a byâ€"law of the council. As a result of such a request from the council we would have a much more healthy and beautiful town. A the citizens would willingly coâ€"operate in this great effort. We understand that the labor condition is such that it is not possible to secure men to do this work. Again we know that if the town counâ€" cil undertook the work we would have to pay the price. Yet in view of these facts we feel that each citizen is the man to look after his own place. It can be done very easily. Yet to do this we need leadership. No _ move is started without it.. Who then should take the initiative? Is not the council our head for such work? Then they are the ones to lead. We will follow the lead of the council. What is the necessary step to take? Wold it not be a wise thing to set the 24th day of May aside for a general cleanâ€"up of the town? This could be followed if the counâ€" The increased traffic from this source crowds the present space. Several of our citizens find {that it is dangerous at certain points. They have averted accidents by the narrowest fractions. If the full width of the road were only available there would not be any congestion or danger at these points. If the company are not willing to live up to their own agreement the Ontario Railâ€" way BRoard ought to be notified of the fact. They will issue the necessary order compelling them to act. Tt will require a little special attention by our council. In the end we will have a splendid road that can be used from one side to the other by all the traffic. Let enough pressure be brought to bear so that the work may be set going. Let every citizen that knows the necessity of having the full use of the road tell the council of their reasons. # May the 1st is here and. gone. _ Still our streets are full of dirt.. Bricks, sand, leaves and rubbish of all kinds is lying on the streets. This gives the town a rather untidy appearance. In fact the town is made to look like the ward in the city. If we are to build up a residential town we must look well to the cleanliness of the whole town. As all the vacant lots are now being cleared, so the streets ought to receive attention. This is something that will have to be decidâ€" ed soon. Do we need the whole width of Main Street? The answer is plain enough that we do. Our byâ€"laws demand that all streets shall be 66 feet wide. No one is allowed to open a subâ€" division unless his plan calls for the street to be of that width. Yet on the main street of our town we in paces only have about the use of 20 {feet of the road. Is this right? When we recall the byâ€"law, about the width of our streets should we be satisfied with a narrow main street?" No, we should have the street at its full width. There is room enough to make the street a full 66 feet from one end of the town to the other. To do this, however, we have to ask the Toronto Suâ€" burban Railway Company to fulfill their agreeâ€" ment, that is, to keep their road bed uniform to the road. If this was done we could have the full use of Main Street. At present it is imposâ€" sible for any one to use the road beyond the rails. If you do get over the rail you are sutre to run into a hole thaat will upset your rig. Steps to have this brought to the notice of the company should be taken by our council. If our town is to move along and become a place of importance now is the time to make these changes. ‘Toâ€"day there is a heavy traffic on the road. â€"Farmers, merchants, peddlers, and our own citizens all make use of it. DO WE NEED THE WHOLE ROAD? Many lessons have been taught by the presâ€" ent great war. People are being brought nearer to the fundamental principles of true practical religion. The news from the front line is an inâ€" dication of this. The attendance at church serâ€" vices shows an increase. The realization of prayâ€" er as the proper medium in seeking aid is being emphasized more and more. Weston once more is to the front in this great onward rush of events. Dr. W. Archbold, of St. John‘s Church, Weston, revived the old Rogation services in Weston on Tuesday. He was robed in his vestâ€" ments and, followed by thirty of the members of the church, held service of benediction at the Holley Street gardens and at the school chilâ€" dren‘sâ€"gardens. It was the old custom to do this before the sowing of the, seed. Prayers were offered up to ask the blessing of God upon our crops this year. God is the Creator and Giver of all things. Is it not fitting that we should imâ€" plore His blessing upon us this year? This is the spirit of the times. If our religion means anyâ€" thing it means just what was done. The revival of this custom is welceomed in our midst. We should all bow before our Creator in these times of great stress, as, indeed, we should at all times. Last week you could have seen a sight that was good to be seen. . Nearly a dozen of our leading citizens were busy at the Methodist Church grave yard. All were busy with tools. It was a general clearing of the grounds. This work has been needed for some little time. After they have finished there will be a changed street. This corner can be made to look very pretty. In fact, it should be the most beautiful corner in our town. With the church, public library, and school all together is it not the cenâ€" tre of our education? Is it not therefore the place to make most attractive?. Yes, we ought to have this the centre for stimulating interest to making our town more beautiful. No doubt now that a start has been made others will folâ€" low suit. es DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE TEACHING OF YOUR CHURCH? We have a jitney service now on the Weston Road. It runs from West Toronto to Weston. While this is a big benefit to our town in general, yet it must be remembered that while carrying a car overloaded with passengers is against the law, it is also dangerous. Extra care should be exereised by the driver of the car in this line. With a busy traffic that is always passing up and down our road all persons must be careful. No speeding ought to be countenanced in suc! cases. There will be no campaign for funds in Wesâ€" ton or York County this year. It is the result of the visit paid to the York County Council last Friday afternoon. $45,000 was granted by that body for the work. Threeâ€"quarters of a mill will be the share that we are called upon to pay. It is a fair method of raising the money. Yet we find that even this method overlooks a number of persons who could .and would pay if canvassâ€" ed. In such cases it is to be hoped that those who are not called upon in the way adopted will call af the office of the Y. M. C. A. and give what they would. Excellent work by our constable was the means of stopping a lot of fast driving.. With the close watch kept on the highway for the speedâ€" ers, they are making headway against it. Many of these speed merchants are now taking the back road to do the little speed acts. _ Weston road has been receiving its share these last few weeks. Several ran through the town at 30 or 35 miles per hour. With the amount of work laid at the door of Mr. Campbell, he is not a‘ to give this just as much attention as there ought to be given. Now is the time to stop them, before they get started. Once it is known that he is on the job it will stop a lot of these speeders and be the means of saving some one from serious injury. Our Weston bowlers had consented to_ take charge of the campaign again this year. _ Last year they did great work. $1900.00 is what they collected from here last year. Under the counâ€" ty tax we will pay about $1550 this year. It will be an equal proportion for all. NO Y.M.C.A.
