Quite a few people have been comâ€" . plaining of the excessive rate of speed ‘at which the express car on the radial »Sine travels past Canning Avenue. We understand that some time ago the _ Railway Board ordered all cars, when going east, to come to a full stop at this crossing, but apparently the comâ€" pany has gverlooked this order. At the last meeting of the Local Imâ€" ‘provement Society this matter was taken up and the secretary was reâ€" quested to advise the township clerk of the conditions. This is a dangerâ€" ous crossing if the cars do not stop, wand especially more so now that the wchildren are going to school again. _ Mr. J. E. Culham, formerly of Sumâ€" merville, motored down from Smithâ€" Aale on Sunday afternoon and is spending a few days in the neighborâ€" hood. wWEDNESDAY, SEPT. 11TH, The congregation of St. George‘s Church, Islington, have installed a handsome new set of choir seats, made of quarter cut oak and black ash. This together with pew screens and prayer desks, add greatly to the appearance of the church. On Thursday afternoon and evenâ€" ing there will be choral convention of choirs of the Deanery of Peel held at Streetsville Anglican Church. In the afternoon papers will be read on choir management and music. In the evenâ€" ing service in~ which the combined choirs will furnish the music. . The Rector of Holy Trinity Church of Toâ€" ronto will be in charge of the choirs. _ The St. George‘s Choir will hold a corn roast on grounds of Mr. Timothy Johnston on Friday evening. ‘When the Radial Line constructed their roadbed through the village they tore up the sidewalk on Canning Aveâ€" rue and up to the present time it has not been repaired. This should be atâ€" tended to at once before the fall rains set in. Then again, that reminds us that in the early days of spring a very largely signed petition was preâ€" sented to the company to have a waitâ€" ipg room installed on Canning Aveâ€" nue. What has become of this petiâ€" tion? The instigators of this petition should see to it that they get some reâ€" eognition, or perhaps the railway comâ€" pany Mave been busy drawing up plans this summer for a regular bangâ€"up station house, containing some newâ€" fangled contrivance to warm your finâ€" gers when the. weather gets cold. Never mind, Mr. Railway Company, when you put, up waiting room, PLEASE: build it on the north side of the tracks. The Etobicoke Council met in the Islington Hall on Monday last. Severâ€" Al items ofâ€"important business were put through. Taxes will be collected again this year by Messrs. A. H. Brooks, J. B. Brown and J. T. Brown. The treasurer reported that thereswas still $9,000 back taxes uncollected, and the council instructed the necessary warrants to be issued and signed by the Reeve for the holding of a tax sale. Many other items were discussâ€" ed, of which a full, report Will be given next week. 4 +"TO RENTâ€"The I. 0. 0. F. Hall for private parties and other purposes. Damage to the extent of $50 was «done w\hen fire broke out late yesterâ€" «day at the home of Mrs. Harris, Main Road. The blaze was noticed by A. W. Cooper, who with others formed a bucket brigade. An over heated chimâ€" mey from the grate was the cause.
