Nine hundred sat down at the tables, presided over by Reeve C. L «Wallace and served by the women «of the Patriotic League. The speeches were followed by a conâ€" cert and dance. The tenders for the school debenâ€" tures were called for and opened. In all there were 20 tenders. It was surâ€" prising the amount that was offered. In fact, the average was $103.53 for the tenders. Brant Noxon‘s tender was accepted. »It was not the highest in cash but gave the, best valie. They offered $62606.92 with accrued inâ€" terest and delivered to the town free of charge. This means printing and all other costs will be borne by them. The highest bid was $62,676.00 but did not offer free delivery. This made the difference. The lowest bid was $60600..! This speaks well for the fiâ€" nancial standing of our town, and also assures us tha the School Board have made the first step towards building the school within their original cost. All were well pleased at the results. The chairman was right there and asked that the debentures be turned over to the school account as soon as. they were paid for. This will give them all the interest which is their due. The byâ€"law was introduced and read appointing Mr. Campbell as chief constable. His services to this town have been well done and all are pleased to see him back on the old job. His health failed him and causâ€" ed his retirement a year ago. The Council adjourned. The Weston Resourses Committee handed in their report which is given in detail in the paper. All were pleased and passed a.resolution thanking the committee for the excellent work that they had done.. The sum of $701.99 was returned to the town,. Read the full report and see what was accomâ€" plished. A. big discussion took place on the question ‘of daylight Saving.. Finally, it was decided that Weston would folâ€" low suit, starting on Sunday night. It was felt that on account of. the large number of persons living in Wesâ€" ton and working in Toronto that it would not be possible to do anyth, ing else but fall in line, § The possibilities of Weston as â€" a place of beauty were brought before the council by Mr. Mackay. He callâ€" ed attention to the Humber Valley and its natural beauty for a park and driveway; also the waterâ€"dam and thus making the whole banls a beautiâ€" ful place for picnics and parties. To carry on the great work, ‘he had no doubt but that the Horticultural Sociâ€" ety would give every assistance. The Rev. Mr: McKay appealed to the council to buy the building erectâ€" ed for the skating rink.. He pointed out that the community gardens were in need of such a building for the juyenile work. This is just what was néeded last year to place all the foolz in, give short talks to the class‘ and for changing garments. The rink comâ€" mittee were willing to dispose of the building and give the community garâ€" den the use of it. p. m.~ Mr. Verral and Mr. Jarvis preâ€" sented the plans for the subâ€"division or tne Verial property that was turned down some little time ago. It is now proposed that the town buy the lot next» to the‘town hall as far as the present hedge. This would give ample room for park purposes, alsorgive the town a square.\ The whole proposition would be very advantageous to the town and could be secured now at a most reasonable rate. The balance of the property would be sudâ€"divided. The narrow frontage from this subâ€" division would naturally assist in pay~ ing for the property. The matter was laid over for consideration at a â€"special miecting on Wednesday night. ; ¢ Tenders Opened The special meeting of the Weston Council was well attended on Saturâ€" day night, All the members were in their places and kept at it till 11.30 p. m.~ Mr. Verral and Mr, Jarvis preâ€" sented the plans for the subâ€"division all being run the old and new times. Everything is out of order.. This will all be rectified within the week. You will not note the différence once things are started off right. ‘We are all related in our work with every ‘deâ€" partment. Let one strong bo‘d?†ge;t out of time and it upsets everything. Keep going and keep up to the times. Work ‘on the new schedule as anâ€" nounced by the mayor in these colâ€" umns, < Daylight Saving You do not realize how closely eyâ€" erything is connected with each other. Our members at Ottawa decided that it would not be to the best interests of this country to enact the daylight saving bill. Considerable pressure from certain points had the effect of putting this act out of order. . The Railways, however, had made all arâ€" rangements to change their times. It was found to be a benefit to them last year. They also wanted to act in conjunction with the American road. This. they did. The large centres adopted the new schedules of time by \proclamation and thus‘ the whole country is in turmoil. The very thing that the members, wiB&ed to. avoid was brought about. Veston abided by the decision of the government, but have been plaqeq in a very bad posiâ€" tion, train, cars, meals and schools are This is here War Savings Stamps have a decided advantage over the money box. As soon as $4 is put into one of these it begins to earn at the rate of 414 per cent. compounded half yearly. This means that if allowed to remain in Stamps, it would double itâ€" self within less than 15 years. Money put into a box and allowed to remain there would not be spent, but it would earn nothing. The moral isâ€"buy War Savings and Thrift Stamps and â€" let your savings work. But the money box, though it has rendered splendid service, has its limâ€" itations. All that it does is to take care of the pennies, the dimes, or the 25 cent pieces, preventing them for a time being squandered. But, in comâ€" parison with â€"later saving devices, its chief defect is that while it holds money, it does not enable the money to carn anything. WwAR SAVINGS AND THRIFT STAMPS BEAT THE MONEY BOX The children‘s money box on the mantel shelf has, in the past, done good work, having gathered in tens of thousands of dollars, which, had it not been there, would never have been saved. To many generations it has been one of the, hest possible object lessons of the value of saving. Tt has taught, the lesson of thrift ‘better than almost any teacher could ‘have done. s WOOODBRIDGE Our wagon calls at Mimico and_ New Toronto _ twice _ a week, winter and summer.
