The committee find that it will require in the neighborhood of $250 to outfit the team with suits, sticks, etc: An effort is being made to raise this money by general subscription. The first tryout will be held on Satâ€" urday in the former baseball grounds at the corner of Mimico Avenue and‘ the I@ke Shore Road. The team hope that they will be able to secure this ground for the season. ‘No experience in lacrosse is needed and no fee is reâ€" Iquired in order to join the Club, the only condition being that all players must be residents either of Mimico or of New Toronto.â€"The team has a great asset in their coach, Art Harriâ€" son. Mr. Harrison is well known in lacrosse circles, as he was the former 'roropto and Ottawa defence star. This should prove an excellent opportunity for the young men of Mimico and New Toronto to get together for an evening‘s sport every week, and there is no reason why they shouldn‘t carry off all the honors in the Intermediate Dated this 23rd4 day means of advancement fight than our~mortal enemies have been. . The real charter of demoeracy is the old goldeh rule, "Whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do unto them." Oh, that we might all always try to live up to this, we then and only then will have peace. God is no respector of perâ€" sons. The rain falls on the, just, as well as the unjust, and He is continuâ€" ally bringing up from the ordinary people personalities who shall produce . and put forward, the ways and means] of obtaining _ real democracy and We certainly enjoyed ideal weather over the Easterholidays although on Friday morning and Sunday morning it threatenede to rain. It thought better of it and it was ideal in the afâ€" ternoon, especially on Sunday. | May this Easter, our first real one in four years, not only bring us as a country Peace but into our homes, may.t]glere/ creep a better feeling of true peace and calm." So many homes, apparantâ€"_ lyâ€"péacéeful, are so much the opposite when you know them intimately. We want a real peace and calm everyâ€" where. The world has been in such a turmoil for four years that the spirit of unrest and discontent and fear| will be even a greater enemy to â€" The New "Rebeckah " | The new *"Rebeckah" lodge _ held an afternoon session, The chartered members of the lodge, were instituted. The lodge was named the ‘"Lorraine Rebeckah" \lodge, Na. 195. The inâ€" itiation was made by. Mrs., Edna, M. Middleton. â€"A special Deputy to the Grand! Master.. She was assisted by the District Deputy, Mrs. Lavelle, of Toronto, and her suite. At the evenâ€" ing session, the new candidates were initiated and the officers for the enâ€" suing year were installed by (Mrs. Savelle. Supper was served afterwards in the basement of the church under the capable management of Mrs, Dyâ€" er, the Noble Grand, the management a very good year. .. : ‘"Toothless ones" at present, and they, we are certain will be gi-ad, if He can make them in a condition to enjoy life again without running out and in to town. A,newcomer should always be encouraged. â€" Deal locally and you boost your own village. What a. boon to us is that coming dentist goin8 to be. . Everyone at sometime or other needs his services and we sincerely hope that if he is at all the capable man we hear he is, that the local people will endure their "torture" in hisg office here‘ rather than go to town.. ‘There are &‘ fow The little bungalow being built on Fifth St. just South of Mr. Robinson‘s is quite a pretty little home and . we understand .Mr. Calvert already sold it, when only the foundation was laid. We wish him good luck in his underâ€" taking‘ and hope he will build many more such pretty little homes. Our village is not standing still and we want to catch a number of our sumâ€" mer visitors and induce them to build permanent homes here. ( summer residents are getting their hoJmeS freshened up with the coat of paint which does so much towards appearance and is a joy to quite a number of our summer friends who come out on Saturday afternoon, and dare we breathe it often on Sunday, and spend the «day getting ready. for the usual yearly visit. We see signs of, the coming summer now on all hands. A great many Our local history has been unavoidâ€" ably postponed owing to the indisâ€" position _of our local representative, but she will get after it without loss of time now and apologize for the deâ€" lay. S en The Pastime Theatre is proving itâ€" self a greaet acquisition to our vliage and Mr. Hucker is certainly doing his best to procure good pictures. The matinee on Friday last was quite well filled and we are sure he did not reâ€" _gret having one. There was a little thing we noticed which we are cerâ€" tain will in time be remedied,. and that is that every time the door is opened to admit anyone, the. pictures are blurred. This could casily be avoided by having even a curtaim inâ€" side or a screen, and we know Mr. Hacker will be glad to remedy it. The music so far is very good. It was just a little error and quite unintentional, we know, that ‘Beautiful Ohio" should\ be played while a death scene in a Ragpicker‘s home was taking place. â€" We all enjoy our own theatre and we want it to be second to none. raton under the Canada t, that he is a tenant extends for the time for ebt of liability is to be which the money to be proposed byâ€"law is pay. _ MILLARD, _ _ Muricipal Clerk. NEW TORONTO of April, 1919 Intermediate 2eb e Ihas Mr. Tom Lowes, the town engineer, sailed from the old country on the 19th of this month. Mr. Lowes has been away since shortly after the new year and was expected back by the 3rd of April. Owing to the scarcity of transportafion, however, Mr. Lowes was not able to return any sooner. A very pretty wedding took place at the Toronto home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry McGee when their daughter, Isobel Rae became the bride of Capâ€" tain L. Ernest Porter, of the original 75th Battalion. Mr. and Mrs. McGee expect to come out to their summer home some time next month. Mr. and Mrs. Walter West, of Dean St., Mimico, wish to thank the neighâ€" bors and friends for their kindness and sympathy shown to them in their recent bereavement. We regret to reâ€" port that Mrs. West has had to be takâ€" en to Grace Hospital and the remainâ€" ing child to the Sick Children‘s Hosâ€" pital. Mr. Charles Price Green,. Ir.,) has returned to the west where he has been for the last three months with a survey party, after having spent the Eeaster holiday with his family. This was a particularly happy visit as Good Friday was the twentyâ€"fifth anniversâ€" aryof his parent‘s wedding. Mr. Green is looking fine and enjoys his work out west immensely, Mrs. Woodland, the soloist of the Dunne Avenue Church, sang several selections which were greatly appreciâ€" ated by the guests. Amongst those present from Mimico were Mrs. V. Mcâ€" Aree, Mrs, . N. McGill, Mrs. C. C. Hele, Mrs. Fred Hall, Mrs. Martin Colâ€" let, Mrs. L. J. West, Mrs. H. H. Shepo herd, Mrs. Conn, Mrs. E. J. Hutchins, Mrs. W. McKay, Mrs. A. Dods, Mrs. A. Taylor, Mrs. Roblin, Mrs. C.\ Harâ€" rison, Mrs., James Free, Mrs. J. R. Serson and ts. J. H. Doughty. Miss J, Houston, formerly of Mimiâ€" co an dat present nursing at a Military Hospital in Prince Edward Island, in writing to _ the Advertiser expresses ‘her pleasure in receiving the local paâ€" per and enjoys reading the titâ€"bits of Mimico news. Miss Houston has been a most enthusia,%tjc worker in all patâ€" riotic undertakings and particularly in connection with the, Union. Jack Chapter of the I. O. D. E. Mr. William Humble entertained the audience with a solo on the bones which was so heartily. received that Mr. Humble was forced _ to respond with two encores. The dancing of ) Miss Dina Doulan and Mr. Norman Johnson provided one of the favourite numbers on the programme. In the intermission Mr. C. E. King made a §/hort speech inviting all those present to attend the laying of the L. O. L. Memorial Hall on the following day and bri®fly explaining the purpose in building the hall, All the numbers on the program pleased the audience, and were heartily encored. The arâ€" tists taking part were: Mr. John E. Walker, Master Bert _ Powell, â€" Miss Margaret Park Wilson, Mr. William Humble, Miss Dina Doulan, Mr. Norâ€" man Johnson, Mr. Jim Reid, Mr, T. McKeown and Mr. Lowry Barnes, the accompanist. use ts A. A. Gray, A. D. G. M., the chairman, opened the concert by requesting the audience to join in singing â€" several well known songs from song sheets which had previously been distributed. hi enae s en e e t e : oS 3 i1 The L. 0. L. of Mimico presented a very pleasing concert last Thursday evening in the Connaught Hall, Mimiâ€" co. The hall was well filled, the audiâ€" ence being mainly adults, children beâ€" ing conspicuous by their absence. Mr. The following advertisement was inâ€" serted in last week‘s edition of this paper: "Lot for sale, 32 ft. frontage on Mlbert Ave., 132. ft. deep at $12 per foot, Apply to Dr. Forbes GoGâ€" frey, Mimico." . By Saturday morning the lot, was sold. If you wish to purâ€" chase or dispose o anything try the columns of this paper for results. On Friday morning the Boy Seouts Girl Guides and Juniors of the Salva® tion Army Sunday School attended the annual, Salvation Army, parade from Queen‘s Park to Massey Hall. Last year the banner awarded to the corps having the largest proportionate attendance of Juniors at the parade was won by the Mimmico corps. We hope that the same success may be theirs this year. In the afternoon the Guards and Scouts, in charge of Capâ€" 3J tain Sibbick, held an open air meetâ€" ‘ ing. at New Toronto. In last week‘s edition we stated that the Union Jack Chapter I. 0.‘ D. E. would hold a bazaar on Friday, April 24th, where as it should have read Thursday, April 24th. Most patriotic societies at the close of the /war disâ€" continued their activity, but the Union Jack Chapter feels that it would be a fitting eonclusion to . their splendid "work during the war to erect a suitâ€" able memorial to the boys of South Etobicoke who have served overseas. The bazaar deserves the hearty, supâ€" port and appreciation of all those in-i erested in tihs work. 8 hss On Easter Sunday some of the scholars of the Methodist Sunday School presented an excellent Missionâ€" ary proramme at the afternoon Sunâ€" day School. Those taking part on the programme were Misses Mable: Ansâ€" combe, Marion Warnér, Trene Shirley, Grace Browning, Marjorie Dods, Hazâ€" el Barnum, Rebecca McAree, Dorothy Barnum and Messrs.
