W. H.‘C; MILLARD, ‘ Municipal Clerk. lication of this notice and that such publication was made on the 23rd of April, 1919. The Y.M.C.A. concludes its drive for new members this evening. The exact number of new members has not been calculated as yet, but Mr. R. Cochrane, the secretary of the Association, estiâ€" mates that the number of men and boys enrolled as \new members will total one hundred and fifty. The Juniors of the Salvation Army Sunday Schq‘ol‘were successful again this year in carrying off the banner awarded to the corps having the largâ€" est proportionate attendance at the annual Salvation Army parade, Mn Kerrier paid.! tribute / to Mr. Parker‘sâ€"splendid work in the Sunday School..‘_ Mr/â€" Parker in / replying thanked the Sunday School for/ their hearty coâ€"operation during the paé’c year, and urged the pagents to attend the Sunday School services with their children: The seals were awarded to Alifred Brown, Har?ld Baynon, Roy Ssulley, TLillie Hati/:onv, Alfred Tredgitt, Dorothy Anscombe,. A Hawalian number proved very popâ€" ular, and although encores \ were against the rule, an encore for this number was insisted upon. The chorus by Miss Morgan‘s class, the dialogue by Miss.Ferrier‘s class, and the songs by Mr.. Cochrane‘ ‘class, all. proved very popular. +The secretary, Miss Ferriet, and the | treasurer, Mr. Launchbury, presented very favorable reports. Miss Helen Wilkinson‘s reciâ€" tation, and the song by the classes of Miss smali and Miss Morgan, concludâ€" . ed the program.. The diplomas for 90 per cent. efficiency, were awarded to Misses / Dorothy Howman, Elsie Hatton, Joy Morgan, Hazel Baraum, and Messrs. Norman Harlock, John Austen and. Walter Parker. On Monday. evehing"the pupils of the Methodist Sunday, School gave their anniversary entertainment, conâ€" sisting of songs, recitations, drills, etc. The chairman, Mr. Ferrier, opened the entertainment with a few remarks, followed by an Easter hymn by the Primatry Department, and a prayer by the pastor, Mr. Morgan. The followâ€" The china tea set was won by Mr. E. MclLean, of Swansea, the mahogany table by Mrs. Harry Ellis, of Toronto. The child‘s dress was won by Mrs. Etiber, and candy: by Mrs. Archic Herod. Miss M. Cannon was the winâ€" ner of the mats, made and donated by. ‘a returned soldier of Mimico, who wished to show his appreciation of what the I. 0. D. E. had done for him while he was overseas. | The very imâ€" portant position of doorkeeper was filled by Mrs,. Barnum, St., . whose ‘of welcome got everybody off a good start. . Mrs. Barnum deserves pecial mention, having made thirtyâ€"six‘ arâ€" ticles for the differentâ€"booths. The selling of raffle tickets was conducted by Mais. Riddlesworth and Mrs. Dyâ€" ment and Miss Werden. . The ladies of the I. 0. D. E. havecertainly worked hard and deserve their success. in the tea rooms, where ice cream, sandwiches, cake and coffee could be purchased were Mrs. T. Ryding, (conâ€" venor),, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Derbyshire and Miss Sara Ryding. At the wheel of fortune where practically anything could be won for almost noâ€" thing, if you happened to ‘be lucky, was Mr. Dods, ably assisted by / Miss Sara Hele, Miss, Barabara Johnston and Mrs. H. H. Shepherd. The homemade cooking sold by Mrs. J. Wright (convenor) Mrs. G. Wilson, Hrs., Everitt, Mrs. Street and Mrs. Stirk was very tempting. Veryattractive clothes for children were for sale in the booth under the care of Mrs. L. J. West, (convenor) Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Ballard, Mrs. Barâ€" num, Mrs, P. A. Woods and Mrs. Perâ€" cy Weise. Tempting candies in pretty boxes were sold by Mrs. T. E. Bell, (convenor), Mrs. W. Redshaw and Mrs. N. Smith at the candy booth. Aprons of all sizes, shapes and desâ€" criptions were displayed by Mrs. Free, (convenor), Mrs. Hewton, Mrs. Launâ€" chbeury, Mrs.‘ Mrcher and Mrs. McAlâ€" lister and were eagerly bought up. _ The women‘s wear booth in charge of Mrs. Davidson, convener, Mts. Telfer, Mrs. Parkinson, Mrs, Warner, Mrs. Madison and Mrs. Tremayne disâ€" ,played many useful and pretty articles for women, A very popular corner ‘was the booth in charge of Mrs. R. Herod and Mrs. John. Adamson, where "Coney Island Red hots" might be purchased for the moderate sum of five cents. | The children and also many of the grownâ€"ups showed their appreciation of the fish pond presided over by Mrs. Hutchins (convenor, Mrs. C. C. Hele, Miss C. Godfrey and Miss G. Everitt. _ The annual bazaar held by â€"the Union Jack Chapter I. 0. D. E., Mrs. Keese Regent, was as usual a great success, over $1300 gross being taken in. The convenors of the bazaar were Mrs. F. Godfrey and Mrs. A. Dods. The hall was very prettily decorated with sprays of artificial flowers, all the booths contributing to make a very charming effect. A rather novel booth was the country grocery store, where everything from sugar/to shoe laces might be obtained, the old fashâ€" ioned costumes of the clerks, Miss Marjorie Free Mrs. William Robertson and Mrs, Will Woods, being very picâ€" turesque. s i LO.D.E. MIMICO The inaugurating of a motor bus service between Sunnyside and Long Branch may have some effect upon the officials of the Street Railway Co. and may result in a better service, Mother‘s Day will be observed in the Mimico Churches on Sunday next. Mrs. Aikenhed, the wife of a former pastor, is expected to take the services at the Methodist Church. Mrs. Aikâ€" enhead is well known as an eloquent and sincere speaker and no â€"doubt many of the Mimico friends will welâ€" come this opportunity of hearing Mrs. Aikenhead once more. Pilblic ‘School have on several differâ€" ent occasipné been depx:ived of both their morning and afternoon recess. While it is a very worthy desire on the part of those in charge to see that the, pupils keep their shoes clean and neat, it seems rather unnecessary to withhold! the recess privileges all toâ€" gether. Now that spring, the best part Oof the year,. is here, . the children should be allowed all the fresh air and sunshine available and yet they are not allowed the privileg’es accorded to them at all other times of the year. If absolutely necessary the children might be made to play only on the sidewalks, but they should be allowed their intermission. Mr. C. C. Hele has gone to Cobalt for a week with the honorable Mr. Ferguson, Minister of lands, . mines and forests and a, party of six in the ‘Whitney." / ; ; _ No Recess for Children Since the muddy weather has comâ€" menced the children of the Mimico ‘ Ernest Coxhead, of Stanley Ave., who has lately returned from overseas has the scarlet fever. The monthly meeting ofâ€"the Ladies‘ Aid of the Presbyterian Church was held at the honre of Mrs. Râ€" R: Ganld, Howland Ave., Mimico. Next Sunday, Mother‘s Day, the evâ€" ening service in the Mimico Methodist Church will be conducted by Mrs. Aikâ€" enhead and the music will be providâ€" ed by the members of the Ladies‘ Aid. Pastor and Mrs. Roffe and family, of. the . Missionaryy P\est Home, Rave left Mimico for Muskoka where they will spend the summer, Corporal Archer, of Albert Avenue, is expected to arrive home next Sul}- day. : f Of all the arts that of living is the finest. It is also the broadest, beâ€" cause it includes all other fine arts in its scope. "WThe fine art of: living reveals the Divine nature in us and all our surroundings. § t t€ ‘_ Things are looking up.. On Saturâ€" “da.y there was inauéurated an. upâ€"to date motor service on our highway. This will certainly be a boon to ithe residents along the Lake Shore Road. We understand that at present they care running every hour betweén Sunâ€" nyside and Long Branch. The Autoâ€" ~Bus Highway Transit Co.lis the name they areâ€" running under.. Fhey are running upâ€"toâ€"date motor buses paintâ€" ed yeliow and seat fourteen people and the motorman.. They certainly beat the radial cars out and are much more airy. than the same. The fare to Mimico is 5ec; New Toronto 10c and Long Brgnch 15¢. Many will, no doubt, be ‘glad to support them and we wish them the best of success, There is nothing like opposition and good luck to the enterprising*‘Company â€" who have dared show opposition to the raâ€" dial Car,Co, This may make them wake up now. i When will the big man give, the little ‘one an equal chance, and realâ€" ize that everyone has an equal right to the, highway ? ?f The only damage done to the Cadâ€" illac was a smashed front wheel. Our local garage owner, Mr. Loudon, went to"the rescue and took charge of the wreck. ‘ A rather serious accident occurred on Sunday evening, about 8 o‘clock. at Smith‘s switch. The accident. was fortunately only serious to the cars concerned. A Cadilliac owned by Mr. Cecil Davidson, Brunswic® Hotel, Toâ€" ronto, ran down a Ford owned by a Russian,. of New Toronto. It is not often that our little Ford gives in, but on Sunday the Ford . was thrown right across the radial | tracks up against the fence, and wrecked. ‘ We would be satisfied with one deâ€" livery a day, so long as we got it. Can you do anything to suggest it to our postal authorities? Besides it is often very inconvenient to go to the post office to collect one‘s mail.‘ I do.not know, of course, the pros and cons of the matter, but it‘ seems to me that we could . easily now afford a postman, anotHer job for some returned man who is not parâ€" ticularly strong after his sojourn at the front. Now that we are growing into quite a respectable sized village, is it not worth while considering whether we ought not to begin to think about a postman. Qur postmaster must have an exceedingly busy time handing out all the letters that go through his hands. M Thursday, «Friday and Saturday of last week certainly led us to believe that winter had at last appeared. on the scene. . There were 8.0.8. calls sent in to Mr. Dunn‘s coal office, so that it did some one good. It is to be sincerely hoped that winter is not going to regret her mildness to us, and come now Wwhen we feel like getâ€" ting away from storm windows and such like. We have been spoiled for bad weather, and like all spoiled chilâ€" dren, we resent something â€" which does not suit us. 1 There is no excuse for the local housewife to deal with the town bakâ€" ers who come out from Toronto. Mr. Cnalmers, who has bought Mr. Johnâ€" son‘s business at Mimico, is the very best of bakers. It is quite a treat td get the excellent bread and the good Old Country scones and cakes that Mr. Chalmers is turning out. We do hope the local people will reconsider the benefit of dealing locally and reâ€" new their custom with Mr. Chalmers, A box social was held by the memâ€" bers of the Odd Fellows‘ Lodge in the council chambers on Tuesday eyening last. Pu. The Olympic Club held a very sucâ€" cessful dance last Monday evening in the Parkdale Assembly Hall. The music was provided by Steven‘s Orâ€" chestra. The hall was well filled, in the neighborhood of eighty couples being present. The committee were Miss E. Renton, Miss G. Mcllroy, Miss E. Johnston and Miss M. Renton. E. A. Crowhurst ELORIST Thos.
