"It has been brought to our notice by several firms here that Canadian manufacturers and other are very lax in not replying to correspondence and enquiries, and it is having the effect of creating an impression that Canada as a whole is not looking for business, or making much effort to get it. Trifles of this kind create a false idea, as the people in the U. S. are very particular about prompt reply to enquiries, and furthermore carry on a regular followâ€" up course of correspondence. Not only has it a bad effect in creating an imâ€" ‘f)ression of slackness, but it is also causing some of the importers here to make strong representations to the Government to remove the import trade restrictions with other countries that are not within. the Empire. At the present moment, Canada is, as you are well aware, particularly favored in this regard as compared with the United, States, but if the répresentaâ€" tions of the‘importers are sufficiently strong and insistent, the Government will be forced to allow certain comâ€" modities to be brought in here on a par with Canada, becausae these comâ€" modities cannot be procured, or apâ€" parently so, within. the Dominion. Even if they have not got the stocks on hand, or do not deal in the comâ€" modities they are.asked about, surely it would be a simple matter for them to write a note to the English firm enâ€" quiring and explain the situation to them." Law Office A grave statement on the lack of business method by some firms which is hurting the general Canadian reâ€" putation in Great Britain is contained in a communication from Mr. Henry B.. Thomson of the Canadian Trade Commission, now in London in a adâ€" visory capacity with the London Misâ€" sion.. He says: The meeting held on Monday evenâ€" ing to consider the matter of arrangâ€" ing for a reception and public welâ€" come to all the boys of the district was well attended. . There was great enâ€" thusiasm and it was decided that. a committee be appointed to make final arrangements for a big field day. For this purpose they are collecting the sum of $500.00, Over two hundred was subscribed at the meeting. This is the way to go about an affair of this kind and we can look for a big day. Plans have been approved, the byâ€" law registéred and everything is ready for a big meeting of the fifty appliâ€" eants who are anxiously waiting for the beginning: of operations. The comâ€" mission purpose calling a meeting this week to lay all the details before those who purpose taking up the house proâ€" position as set out by the commission. This plan, which gives the working man the opportunity be wants, should be taken hold of with a Â¥im. It should mean the increasing of the population of New Toronto very considerably. It is noted at the baseball games that the stand promised by the Goodâ€" year Company is needed badly. There are many of the fair sex at the games and they have no place to sit. This will no doubt be attended to at an early date. a The Goodyear started to build anâ€" other 100 foot addition on the east side of their present building.. This will be erected the same height as the present main building. It shows just what this company means to the munâ€" icipality. ‘The Reeve is in charge of the construction of the building. Who planted the trees along the Lake Shore Road between 3rd and 6th Street? This is the business part of the town and it seems to be the wrong place to plant trees right on the street line. . A great welcome was given to Cyril Telford on his return home yesterday. BHis parents, Mr. and Mrs. Telford, have been waiting for the safe return of their boy. He has been across with the battery for the past three years and has been through most of the big shows that the Canadians took part in. His father is the clerk and treasâ€" urer of the town. On Saturday afternoon the Mimico lacrosse team will journey to the city and meet the fast Beaches team. This team was the winner of last year. It will give all an opportunity to size up the team in real company. The game is called for 3 o‘clock, as many of the followers as can are asked to make the trip with the boys. The official opening of the Goodâ€" year Bowling Club took place last Saturday afternoon on the Mimico Bowling Green, which the Goodyear A. A. have recently taken over for the season. Mr. and Mrs. J. Johnstom of Heather Avenue spent the holiday in Woodâ€" stock. The remains of the late Mr. Brown of Vanevery Street were interred in Parklawn Cemetery last Wednesday afternoon. point, Ed.
