Backyards, . streets, front lawns, lanes, driveways, public grounds, cellars, stores, in fact, everyâ€" thing, would stand a general cleaning up and then our old town will take on a real spring appearance and be ready for the big improvement plan that the Horticultural Society have laid out. Can you dowit? Well, anything that is taken hold of in Weston generally suceeeds when it is along this line, or lin the line for the general welfare of the community. \ Clean Up Day ‘ What about it? â€" Have you noticed the little repairs necessary to the garâ€" den fence, the broken twigs in fruit and shade trees, the uneven spots in the lawn? All these can be fixed even if the day and the soil is not warm enough to garden. The perennial bed can be levelled, dead twigs removed and a light covering of fine fertilizer ‘sprinkled over which will give better bloom a few months later. A visit to the backyard will perhaps reveal a few broken odds and ends of dishes, ho Cinwes & Gmine. cans and remnants â€" of vegetables stalks which have fallen from the garbage can and owing to cold weathâ€" er not picked up. «Perhaps ashes are scattered around, making an unsightly appearance. Then the lawn needs raking and in small communities it is up to the citizens to keep streets and boulevards clean and tidy if the town is to present a good appearance to the visitors. A little forethought and coâ€" operation is all that isâ€"needed to get [results. From all the talk that is going around there will be a lot of lacrosse‘ in Weston this year. In the first place the club were successful in having one of our townsmen and players elected on the executive of the O.A.L. A. Mr. Arnold. Smith, with his ex< perience as a lacrosse player and his ability as an. executive officer, willginâ€" deed do honor to the club and also will be an able officer for the Association. The general talk is that there will be three teams from Weston this year. From the way the talk is going the senior team will be a real surprise. to all. : Some new men are held under cover and will be signed up. These men, it is stated, will round out the l_gcals so that there will be nothing to beat them. They will sweep all before \them‘ wWith Young Torontos, St. Simâ€" ons, Beaches, St. Kitts, Brampton and ‘Weston in the senior‘groups, it will be some lacrosse., The younger boys are also getting together for the springâ€"time. It sure looks like a real season‘s sport. $ What of Baseball? Can we not have a baseball league started in the town? As there are two or three thurch teams these could be grouped into a section of the Interâ€" Church League. This would enable them to play under organized baseball and it will also give our boys the O0pâ€" portunity that they need .to get. into the sport. This is the time to get \t’his organized and a general plan unâ€" der way. \ y Are You Bowling? _ Well the season will now soon be off to a good start once more, The election of officers last night and the splendid. financial report of last year shows the club to have been ‘most successful last year. This year‘s pnosâ€" pects are still better and those who are interested are just waiting for the grand opening day. _ t OF THE GENERAL The marriage was solemnized ‘m| MPMUESCAY, s oE cn l Cis weaniic wvant LR Cleveland on Monday evening of this | ing of Weston Branch Labrador Misâ€"‘ week of Mr. Geo. sanderson, of the j sion at the home of Mrs. Wisner, Wilâ€" Soudan Interior Mission, Africa, â€" to | liam St., at. 8 p . | Miss B. Nothing has been heard at the stations either. Still there was the report that appeared in the city papers which‘ cited the cases and judgment as follows: j \ Commutation rates on the railways under the new tariffs allowed by the recent judgment . of the Dominion Railway Board will be, only about oneâ€" half the increase asked by the railâ€" ways as regards points within the limâ€" ited zone of approximately nine miles from Toronto, states Corporation Counsel G. While there is a general incréase in rates, therefore, the decision of the board does not represent a complete victory for the railways in their demands. The proposed increase would indeed have been a big stumbling block for many who intended to come out here to live. With the suburban service it is a big inducement to those who have their business in the city and want to live in the country. Weston supplies them with the needed place.
