Methodist Church Ladies‘ Aid Society ‘ and their helpers in the holding of the: one of the most enjoyable outâ€"door meetings on Wednesday last, Weather conditions, the beautiful surroundings and the abundance of seats, provided by those in charge, added much to the comfort of the large number present. A. bountiful supper in which the lusâ€" clous strawberry with ample dressings of cream and sugar, bread and butter, formed the first course, followed with cakes, pies and tarts of every deseripâ€" tion was served on tables prettily decâ€" orated with flowers set in the shade of the large trees in Mr. D. Rowntree‘s orchard overlooking the Humber valâ€" ley. Weston Citizens‘ Band was in attendance and as . usual rendered good music. Later in the evening the Pastor, Rev. J. W. Stewart, as chairâ€" man of the occasion opened the proâ€" gramme with a few words of welcome and at the close voiced the thanks of all for the enjoyable evening arranged for. Mr. Howse, of Toronto, owing to transportation difficulties, was unâ€" able to be present, but otherwise the programme was carried out in full. nds iecant Instrumental duets by Misses Chapâ€" man and Emerson readings \by Miss Georgina. Burgess, vocal choruses by the young men q(pd physical exercises by the K.0.H2Class interspersed with band selections edhtributed to the enâ€" tertainment of those present. Needâ€" less to say, the ice cream booth and canry tent had their share of patronâ€" U sls age, keeping those in charge . busy supplying the wants of the ‘many visiâ€" tors. As the last notes of the National Anthem rolled out on the even}ng air, a vivid flash of lightning followed by a crash of thunder added volume to the hearty applause, also actedeas a hurried breakâ€"up and a hasty exit was made by all for the shelter of home. Proceeds amounted to over $200 and of this amount in the neighborhood of $1 Saturday was an . ideal day for sports, and those who. saw the two games on the fair grounds Saturday were more than well ~pleased with the brand of lacrosse that was played by the four teams. . In the first game the Juveniles, which we thought lookâ€" ed so good, were beaten by the fast Mimico team. ‘This came as a rather hard hit to those who have been folâ€" lowing the boys. Mimico team playâ€" On Puesday, July: 13th, the y< icnic of the Lambton Women‘s titute will be held at Lambton F ‘ome and bring your basket and . . good time. Everybody welcon ed a fast game anEl their.year‘s ¢xâ€" perience stood“thefix stead. â€" Our boys, while beaten last Saturday, are not out of the rumning. ‘The experience gained / from ~lage@Saturday‘s . match will be but the stepping stone for greater things from these Juveniles. The great surprise of the day/ came when the Junior team came out ali untried micn and beat the Brampton team with case. No one knows just what these Jumors could do or would. Everyone was more than surprised as the brard of lacrosse that they played and the gentlemanly way in which they played the game. All four toams played the game. . The reféree was not up t his job, but the boys did mot také any advantags of this fact Such games will bring back the game and also be the‘ strongest reasoning against those. who would have the outside places look upon Weston as a rough towh. Sullivan and a few othâ€" ers would have the outside town§ neâ€" lieve that Weston players were a lot of roughnecks. ‘This is not the case, and those who have seen the games played will state that the Weston teams are out for clean sport at all times. 7 The first game was started at three o‘clock, with Referee F. Coombs facâ€" inw the ball. Mimico team defended ing Cecil Brown, Jean Chamberlain, Viola Gardhouse, Selby Harris, Mina Hulf, Muriel McCutcheon, . Margaret . MILLS GARDEN PARTY In In the last period, however, Mimico came back strong and scored four goals on some nice play. Weston‘s goalis was easy during this period, and made the support for the locals bad. The boys were all tired out and ‘ raced all over the field, but were not able to stem the tide of defeat. It and Foster the next two on fast comâ€" bination work. ‘The quarter closed with the score 4 all, and Weston playâ€" ing the stronger game. In the third quarter Mimico set a man to watch Foster, and he did it well. Bob was not able to . break away; the whole ‘quarter was very close, and Mimico scored the only goal on a nice play. boys deserve great credit for the w that they did. ‘The game ended n to four in favor of Mimico. Juveniles / Line up as follows: Mimicoâ€"P. Flowers, G. Boydoll Ryding, R. Gauld, D. MecLean, Williams, W. Hendry, R. Syme. Subsâ€"G. Hare A. Edgar, M. We art, . McR White Has As the Juniors took the field you | could see that it was like a real game. Weston players in their . little work out showed that they had the goods and were handling themselves in a nice clever style. Both teams were about evenly matched for weight and size. OIt was off with a dash Weston had the ball, but found that Ingram, the Brampton goalie, was there, for he turned away the first shot in perâ€" fect style. . Both teams, in their anxiâ€" ‘ ety, missed a few passes, when they f would have meant . goals. Weston, however, were playing a strong, heady game and carrying the ball to the goal. When they shot they hit the goal keeper or landed in his stick. He. was playing \a grand game and saved the score in the first three périâ€" ods. His work, however, could . not hold‘ the locals. On a beauty rush the first goal was scored with a perâ€" feet shot.. Geo. Stokes came right back with the second on a nice comâ€" bined play. ‘The home was handling the ball in fine fashion all the time and improving in their passing. Inâ€" gram repeatedly left his goal to check the man. This lead to, MeEwen scorâ€" ing the third for Weston with . the close of the period. The second period started off with a rush. Dorne Mallaby missed an easy goal, the play travelled . from end to end. Burgess shot but. Brampâ€" ton saved in grand style. ‘The Brampâ€" ton team could not get inside of the striong. Weston defence. . Holley and Coulter played a great game, interâ€" cepting pass after pass and carrying the ball down the field. Brampton at last notched the first goal of the period, scoring on a side shot. This was the only score of the quarter. On the resumption â€" of play: Mallaby took the pass right in and scored for the locals. . Then Jim Holley interâ€" cepted a\ pass and ranâ€" the field through io score the next one. Then Burgess took a hand and scored, afâ€" ter working the ball close in. . Just before the close of the period Fletchâ€" er of Brampton scored their second goal. JUNIORS WIN SECOND GAME Westonâ€"Bridger t McKitterick, Refereeâ€"F. Coombs During the last period it was eviâ€" dent that the game was telling on the boys. ‘ Everything . showed that they were lall in. Aiter a good yrest the Weston boys showca their. gona training \and came . back stronger. This, with the Brampton goalie soing to picces, just netted the local boys 11 goals. It was good work. . They rushed the rubber in to good shootâ€" ing distance with the greatest of ease. It was no effort to work the ball, as they were working the short, quick they were working the shorl, qUI passes to perfection. McEwen notched seven . goals | ar Mallaby, ‘Usser, Stokes, and Coult each one in this period. The ‘gan elosed with the score 17 to 2 in fi game also. The Junior lineâ€"up was as follows: Westonâ€"O. Hugill, (W. Coulter, 3 Holley, Macginnis, B. Hewiston, G. Burgess, B. Wisner, L. Mallaby, _ G. Stokes, R. McEwen. Subsâ€"H. Kilroy, B. Foster, D..Meâ€" Kitterick, c Gordon Coulter . did good work as field captain for the Juveniles in the first game. ‘Toot Harrison looked after his Juâ€" veniles and made them work all the time. The both games were very clean and the best of feeling existed at all times between the players. Our Juniors certainly sprung a Sut~ prise at the great game that they played. If they keep up the pace, the championship will be looking for a resting place in this ‘district. Our boys will go stronger as they get more experience.
