Have you ever stopped to ask your- self why people speed through our] town? There is indeed a reason that we see some cars go through so fast l that it is dangerous to the public. Well, the reason it simple, no mo- torist knows when he is inside of the town limits or when he is outside. Most all towns and many villages so as to insure the carrying out of the law have large signs at the entrances to their municipality. This warns the motorists of the fact that they are within the limits of the town, and therefore must abide by the law. Twenty miles is the limit’. but through Mount Dennis the rate is 25 miles. Thus when the new road which is coming: arrives, we will be troubled with all kinds of sieeders. This can easily be overcome now by having the necessary sign erected at the entrances to the town. It will not only serve to act as a protection against speeding. but will be a great aid as an advertiser for‘the town. In some towns some of the manufactur- ers have erected these signs. It would look very nice if the sign tell- ing of the speed limits in Weston bore the names of the great industrial plants here. It would speak of our prosperity and-also be an added at- traction for any who are seeking lo, cations. I What is being done by that com- mittee that started' off so well last year to do something for the boys of this community? Have they taken a rest or have they really given up /he job? No matter what they have done, in is high time that something was done in this community to give the boys a real high ideal to strive for in this life. We have spoken of the great need for leaders in "our' county. We have talked of the de- plorable conditions that exist in other countries where the boys have not a chance. We have noted how much can be done when a boy is started off on the right track. Why then can we not put some of these noble senti- ments into practice? Why can't we set to work here in Weston and or- ganize a real live active committee that will do the work and never mind the big honors that are coming for what they say. The fall is here and the outdoor days are nearly over. Soon the boys will look tor some in- side recreation to develop thesphysi- cal. They will also want some mental training and a, little of the social side of life.. But on top of all this they need some sound spiritual training to build upon, Now the place that should control these activities is the church direct from its Sunday School classes or some other group of boys under Christian leadership. In this way the various groups can work along their own line for spiritual training and the smaller group games and social activities, but uniting un- der the whole community executive for the big games and debates and conclaves. Something along this line would be the one great means ot bringing the boy inside ofJhe church and making him the reaiheader that he can be for our nation. Let Ives- ton follow the lead of other centres and develop the boy of this c0mmu- nity. We can secure assistance and great help from the active centres thaCare now working on this same plan. Weston, when it takes hold of anything, does it 'well. If this com- munity work idea for the boys. is tak- en up along this line, there will be a great success before it. Mr. Trinkwon takes this opportun- ity of thankine the many friends of the Weston Junior Lacrosse Club tor their support during the season, also on Thursday last to those who so gen-- erously Joaned, fheir cars for the car- rying of the boys to the game at Scarboro Beach. . The Tomlinsoh Methodist Sunday School last Sunday met in the after- noon at 2 o'clock and will continue to do so during the fall and winter months. There was a fair attendance. The service at three' o'clock was con- ducted by the pastor, Rev. Geo. Cruse, who during the fall months intends conducting services with topics relat- ing to the problems of social and com- munity life. .His subject last Sunday was "The Why ot the Labor Unrest in the Present Times." . Let the boys and different classes get together on this matter. There, was an I impression at the time they first play- ed that our boys were over age. This, 1 however, was only laughed at then, as {they were thought to be out ot the Irunning. 'when, however, Shelburne l is beaten in a fgir game, they are try- ing to make trouble. The boys in question are all under the age limit. Our team, while they may look to be the limit, are all young players. The protest will be dealt with if the Shel- burne team have the necessary. We lie in security in this town of ours every night, but there is no se- curity. Last Friday night the office of the Weston Coal & Lumber Company was broken into and the safe charged with explosive, but those responsible could not open the safe doors and make off with the rich haul. It must have been in the early hours ot the morning, because Mr. Rudolph was working in the office till after eleven o‘clock. Those who entered the office did so by the side door after climbing over the gates; This lock is only one ot the ordinary ones and entrance to the office was gained. They went straight to work to open the safe. Af- ter drilling a hole by the tumblers the charge was set. Evidently the hole was not far enough through or the charge was not placed right. The charge jammed the doors so that it was impossible to open them. The tumbler handle was blown against the wall. The robbers were acquainted with the whole layout. They went to the garage, which is at the back of the office, and broke this lock to se- cure a large ,crowbar and pick. This they took into the office, but were still unable to open the door and get into the safe. Thus the men had to speed away without their great pile. , In a hard and well contested game 'the great pride of the Rose Town fell '_stoetore. the mighty St. Slmons team of [Toronto It was a great and fitting Felose to a wonderful revival of the (Senior series in the O. The dash of ‘youth and the great speed of youth tounted and Brampton bowed before youth to the score of 8 to 2. Those who saw the game were more than pleased with the fast, snappy playing of both teams and the excellent spirit that both teams displayed all the way through. During the year there has been a local league in operation in the town and the win- her of this year is to meet the Weston team in home and home games. The first game will be played in St. Cath- erines on Saturday, while the return game will be played here on wednes- day. It looks like Maitlands as the team to beat for the Junior honors. They have been going very strong and are always in the fight. St. Kitts will be a hard team to beat in their own back yard. They have a reputatibn but the police have been paying at- tention to the game this year and are stopping all rowdy and tough modes in the game. Our boys, who have weathered the Shelburne treatment on their first game in that town, need fear nothing from the St. Kitts' bunch. The game is to go over and trim them and do it without making trips to the fence. It is the team that makes the trips to the penalty bench that loses the game. These are things that we need to con- sider in this town. The Weston Coal & Lumber office has been broken' into three times. On the two previous oc- casions they did not get much. Had they been successful this time the haul would have been a good one. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1920 BRAMPTON Bows TO DEFEAT OUR JUNIOR TEAM )IARRIAGES In the third period Shelburne came back very strong after their vest, and they seemed to have most of the play in this périod. Near the start of the period a Shelburne boy got another goal tor Shelburne, there being only the goalkeeper in the net. Shelburnc then got the ball and went down the field with it and shot, but it was saved by Hugill. The play then pro- ceeded end to end until a Shelburne boy sent a swift grounder, but Os- car was right on the job. Lorne then had a shot, but it was saved by the Shelburne goalkeeper. Shelburne then got another goal and held Weston scoreless through this period. The period ended 4-3 tor Weston. The last period started off with a rush. Lorne had a shot, but it was saved. Shelbyrne then got the ball and passing it took it down the field. When they got near the goal one of the boys took a back handed shot. It just missed the goal. Oscar was then called upon to make a hard stop. Shel- burne then got the ball and scored, making it a tie. Bill ‘Coulter went down the field shot, but it was sav- ed. L'orne Mallaby then broke the tie with one tor Weston. In this period Hugill saved very many hard shots, and try as they would, Shel- burne could not get a goal. Once it looked as if there were a sure goal and there was an open net. Shel- burne had the ball and shot, but it was stopped by Jim Holley. Kilroy was put oft in this period. No mote scor- ing was done, and the game ended 5- . for Weston. Silk was the star of the Shelburne team. At the start of the game the ball travelled from end to end until Lorne Mallaby opened the scoring with one tor Weston. Shortly afterwards Wes- ton got another one from Lorne's stick. The game then went on until Russell McEwen and his man drew the first penalty. No more scoring was done in this period, the score be- ing Weston 2, Shelburne 0. At the beginning of the second period Weston got the ball and carry- ing it down the field, passed it to Usher, who shot, but it hit the goal- keeper.
