Mayor FElynn acted as chairâ€" man, whilst Mr. Alex Pearson assumâ€" ed the role of secretazy. The genâ€" eral desire for organized sport in the town was very evident by the enâ€". thusiasm displayed by those present and also by the interesting questions that were asked of the chairman, who displayed his ability and knowledge by prompt and explicit answers. . The chairman,. in his opening Temarks, outlined briefly the idea of the meetâ€" ing and also (the aims and objects of the club, whose main ambition will beâ€"to nurture our young@boys and men so as to get themâ€"into shape and give thein every assistance to enable them to become firstâ€"class sportsmen. . This will establish a basis. whereby we will have a series of excellent players coming along all the time, §‘6 thatâ€"we will not be lacking for materâ€" ial for our fast teams when they are most. needed, thereby eliminating a great deal of the hardship that teams in the past have had to contend withk. The boys will also benefit by the careful training that they will receive and the general knowledge that they. will gain of the higher arts in sports. Committees Report _ ‘ A report was presented which had been drawn up by the Special Comâ€": mittee, who are. mainly re,sponsiblel for the formation of the club. This: report is a general outline of@the, constitution. (1) That:an association . be formed to be known as the "VVesâ€"} ton Amateur Athletie Club" for the purpose of developing and encouragâ€" ing amateur athletic sport. (2) That the membership be composed of three classes, to be known as ‘"Honorary," "Associate," and ‘‘Active.‘ Annual membership fee, Honorary $5, Associâ€" ate $2, Active $4. (s) That the year shall be the calendar year, and the annual meeting shall be held at least one week previous to Good Friday and the exact date of the meeting shall be determined by. the Executive Comâ€" mittee.. (4) At the annual meeting there shall be presented a report of the activities of the year, and a proâ€" perly audited financial statement. â€"In addition.to this there will be the elecâ€" tion of officers, and any other busiâ€" ness pertaining to the, welfare of the club. ~(5) IPhe officers of the club shall consist of honorary presidents, â€" president, â€" viceâ€"president, secretary, treasurer, executive committee of five members and two auditors. (6) That necesi‘éa.ry officials ~â€"be appointed. by the eXecutive, as various branches of sport are developed, who will work under the general «executive. â€" (7) The executive committee shall have control of the playing grounds, finanâ€" ces, rules and admission for memberâ€" ship and any other matters usually assigned to executive bodies. Organized Sport Sunday â€"morning, â€" April 17th, a special meetingâ€" of, the: Methodist Church Men‘s Club is called for ten o‘clock, for the purpose of discussing some important matters in connection with the Brotherhood. All are reâ€" quested to attend. It was first suggested that the reâ€" port be accepted en bloc, but after discussion it was decided to. analyse the whole and take it by clauses. This method permitted the change of any part that the members. desired and the above report.is revised accorâ€" dingly. _A resolution was submitted by Mr. T. J..Maguire and seconded by Mr. H. M. Alexander, that the execuâ€" tive committee be instructed to draw up a constitution and byâ€"laws for the club, which was carried by. the memâ€" bers. Mr. F. G. Beardall called atten> tion to the fact that no provision had been made for the ladies to partake in the sports, but. was assured ~that they would be taken care of as the byâ€"laws as already drawn up did not particularly specify that the club was for men and boys only. <This. matter will be given full consideration as soon as the club gets under way. Election of Officers The chairman presented a slate which had been prepared to facilitate the formation of the club, but called attention to.the.fact that the; memâ€" bers were in no way bound to) accept all or any of the names that ‘were suggested~ This method was approvâ€" ed of by the original committee and each name proposed had been given full consideration in an endeavor to eliminate any hitch that might occur, The following were elected for. the ensuing year: * Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Gregory re= turned home last week, after spendâ€" ing the winter months in St. Petersâ€" burg, the Sunshine City of the South. «‘On Friday afternoon, April 15th, at 3 o‘clock, under the auspices of the W.M.S., a union prayer service will be, held in the Methodist Church, Weston, in the interest of the Referâ€" endum.. Mrs. Pugsley of Toronto will be the speaker andâ€"vocal seiections will be given by the ladies from the various churches. An urgent request is made to all the ladies to be present. A game of carpetball between Leeds Lodge and Kingscourt Lodge, Mount Dennis, on Wednesday evening last, resulted in a score of 42â€"40 in favor of Kingscourt. There is a great deal of W))l‘k to be done this year, as there are various lines of sport which will have to have immediate atftention if we are to have success. In a few. words, Mr. Fred Rowntree, the veteran‘ goalâ€" keeper of the senior lacrosse team, which has brought so many honors home, addressed the meeting and mentioned that the executive of the senior team had made arrangements for the entry fees of the junior and juvenile teams. He lauded the work that was being conducted and gave assurance of his support whenever he possibly could.. Wade regretted that he would not be able to take any office owing to the fact that he was already president of Bowling Club and did not feel that he could ‘do justice to both clubs in the way that he would like to, despite the fact that pressure was brought to bear on his to accept the presidency of the Athletic Club. â€" _ Three Lacrosse Teams _ By the program outlined for laâ€" crosse this year, Canada‘s national game'will be appropriately brought to the fore. A championship team has always been the aim of the playâ€" ers and the ambition of the citizens each year. During the past we have had very good success through the intense interest . manifested at all times by the players and through the undivided support that has been given he team as a whole. ‘ Lacrosse â€"as it should be played has been truly exemplified by our boys and such exâ€" cellent sportsmanship â€" will receive equal encouragement in the future and more especially since sport in general has become organized. The matter of arranging games, geiting the certificates signed up properly and the many other little items that generally confront the management of a team will be hamdled previously by the executive of the club.. Every facility for the prospective player will be advanced and all boys who are interested are requested to hand their names in to the president, Mr. Alex. Pearson, designating the team that they {wish to play in, that is, junior, juveni\le and midget. Each team will be managed. by. an expert at the game and captained by one of the members of that team. This method will give the club the opportunity of properly handling the different teams by providing firstâ€"class management, whose duties will be to concentrate on their particular team. Judging by the good lacrosse men that we have already there will be every possibility of producing a winning team and every boy is invited to become a member ‘of the club. He will have everything to gain and |nothing L/) lose. e FEqotball will be Promoted Years ago Weston produced a winning football team(and it was anâ€" ticipated at that time that the good, old, English game had come to stay.. Unfortunately, with the passing of that team aiso faded the hopes of the continuation of that hne of sport. It is the intention . of the club to resurrect footballvand again bring it back to its former,, position.. ‘This game ranks among the foremost inâ€" sofar as healthful games are concernâ€" ed. As there are quite a number of football players in town, they are urgâ€" ed to get in, touch. with the secretary and enroll so that this popular game will get off to a good. start and enâ€" able the team to get their full share of practice and qualify for the disâ€" trict. By instructing the boys now we will reap the benefits later, when the demand for good players will become greater, when it is hoped that we will have quite a numberâ€"of boys to choose from who have received careful tuiâ€" tion under real management. & } Encourage Indoor Ball The club will endzsavor to promote those games that will appeal to all the citizens and at the same time ofâ€" fer as much ‘recreation~as possible. Now that Daylight Saving will soon be in force, we will ‘have long evenâ€" ings, during which time we could utilize the daylight for the promotion of sport in general, and indoor ball will be one of them. ~This form of sport will especially appeal to those who work in offices=all day and are desirous of throwing. off the fatigue of the day by indulging in a man‘s game, and so invigorate the mind and body for the morrow. Married. Men‘s. Team s The â€"committee will organize teams for everybody, so that no one will be barred from‘ playing: this game, but they will also specialize on a married men‘s team._ If the members who are desirous of joining in the Married Men‘s Team will communicate. with (the secretary, it will greatly facilitate the formation of the different teams LCOF Court Humber will in ~â€"fuâ€" ture hold their xpeetings in the .G.W. V.A. bhall, Elsemere Ave., Weston, on the ist and 3rd Fi*idays of each month.. Next regular meeting, euchre game, 3 prizes, April 15th. While repairing wiring in the Lake Shore Mansions, Mr. ‘W. Crowhurst of the Mimico electric . store â€" fell and severely hurt his ankle. He is proâ€" gressing nicely. as it is hoped to have representations from the different wards of the town and as schedules «will have to be drawn up, there is every need for speed. $ â€" f General entertainment of this kind will be carried on during the summer at the end of which time the finals will be played. ~A very large perâ€" centage of married men find that inâ€" door ball is well ‘suited to the extent of their abilities, as faster games are too strenuous and they are therefore qutclassed, Again‘ the’ fact that a DE FORESTâ€"FRANKS â€" On Wedâ€" nesday, Aprmil 6th, 1921, at Vanâ€" couver, B.C., Grace P. Franks, forâ€" merly of Toronto, youngest daughâ€" ter of the late Peter Franks of Wesâ€" ton.~ Ont., toâ€" Mr.â€" H. J. â€"de «Borest of Calgary, formerly of Vancouver, é‘reat many of our hitherto"spectators Aro wearied Of being ‘"Just spectators" and are desirous of becoming active members of at least one line of sport. We can begin to play as we get older, but we cannot begin to play younger, so send your name in and boost the elub and indoor ball. Cricket will be Played. Although it may seem that too many games will be tackled this year, still there is no doubt in the minds of the members that those sports set down are not one too : many. Cricketâ€" ers are invited to assemble and get out on the oval.. We have some exâ€" cellent players who eould stand. a little exercise themselyes and at the same time pass on some of their ideas of the game to those who are anxious to induige in that quiet game so well known to all Englishmen.
