Weston have the opportunity locally to-enjoy an entertainment such as was . presented in Westminister Church on Thursday and Friday of last week. l The play "1 can't afford it," put on under the auspices of the Ladies aid, was thoroughly enjoyed by large aud- iences both nights, while the music supplied by the Westminister' Orches- tra left nothing to be desired. Finan- cially also, the entertainment was a success, the proceeds being in the neighborhood of $300.00. The success ot this entertainment is due to the fact that everyone taking part did so as if it were their daily occupation, ievery person doing so well that it would be manifestly unfair to pick out any “Stars." It is noted with regret that, owing to illness,Mrs. Livingstone was compelled. almost at the last mo- ment, to withdraw, leaving Mrs. Smith to .fill the gap in her usual able man- ner, This report would. be very incom- plete were not mention made of the energetic and able way in which every last detail was lookined after by Mrs} Sims, the President of the Ladies Aid. And now the question arises, why do we have to go to the city for enter- tainment? Why not have more clean, healthy plays put on by our own local .talent and in this way not only give the citizens of Weston good entertain- ment, but also develop local talent and benefit, local organizations, “lho is next? " Can't Afford It," as shown by the ladies of Westminster, was an ample illustration of penny wise and pound foolish. Meldruni, M.O.H., appear-) ed and laid the matter relative to the, appointing of an Assistant Sanitary Inspector before the Council. He pointed out that the services of this office would be required only during an epidemic and such as we have at the present time. It appears that although the houses effected are Pla- carded, other than the breadwinner is mingling with the masses, which is, contrary to law. The assistant in-' speotor would see that the houses are placarded and that the law is com.". plied with by making daily visits to the houses under quarantine. If we are to control the spread of the vari- ous outbreaks, then we must, adopt the proper methods to deal with the various'cases as they arise, said the Doctor. , For some time, the inspecuon U: plumbing has not been at all times satisfactory and upon' this matter be- ing brought before the Council it was decided that a committee of three, comprised of the Mayor, Councillors Greaves and sainsbury, will hold a session on Saturday eyening at eight o'clock, for the purpose of going into the existing plumbing by-law and tor the appointing of a properly qualified plumbing inspector. -'t, . , _ .
