TAYLOR, THE TIMES AND GUIDE, WESTON Some time ago the management of the Brampton lacrosse . team made arrangements with the Maitlands for | the game scheduled for the 20th. They wanted it pulled off on a big field day shortly. lmagine the surprise that Brampton players got when the Maitâ€" lands stepped off the train for their game. 1t took some tall, hustling to raise the players and get them on the field. Maitlands did not catch them sleeping, however, but got.a surprise when Brampton stepped into them:. The management of the Weston lacrosse team is leaving nothing unâ€" done to give the Weston public a winning | team... After, weeks and months of hard work they are rewardâ€" ed to some extent by having 20 playâ€" ers turn out for practice. Every man is able to hold his own in senior comâ€" pany. Their next step was to secure Neil Felker as coach. Felker is no stranger to Weston. He will be reâ€" membered as the star fielder of that good Woodbridge team of. 15 years or more ago. ‘The only Woodbridge team that could regularly beat Wesâ€" ton. On leaving Woodbridge: Felker played with West Toronto Shamrocks. He left that team to enter the pro. lacrosse league, playing centre for the Tecumsehs. He played at a time when Ottawas, Shamrocks, Montreal A.A.A., Nationals of Montreal and Cornwall were at their best. Neil Felker was known around the pro. circuit ‘as the best centre man in the game. He got the draw 90 times out of a hundred and was an expert at making the odd man on the home. Neil has already made a favorable impression with the players. The pubâ€" lic are sure to like him for he does not belong to the clique that dominâ€" ated lacrosse last year. Saturday saw the opening of the Senior Q.A.L.A. series in group No. 1. Despite the heavy downpour a large crowd saw the games. Maitlands journeyed to Brampton and received a sound trouncing at the hands of the home brews. ~Brampton, who certain sport writers called a fair intermediâ€" ate, took this slam to heart. While the outside public were wondering if Brampton would play Senior, those be= hind lacrosse in Brampton were workâ€" ing. They worked with a result that is plainly seen. This team will give Weston a lot of trouble.. Any team that can hand Maitlands such a drubâ€" bing are good, for Maitlands are in the class withâ€"Beaches this year. When Maitland arrived it was pourâ€" ing rain and the Brampton boys wantâ€" ed to postpone the game. Maitlands insisted that it be played, and now they are hollering and areâ€"reported as goâ€" ing to protest on the condition of the grounds.I Sportsmanship is still sadly lacking in some teams, if this be true. President: Herb. Rudolph and Manâ€" ager Arnold_ Smith, when you ask them if they expect win only smile. While saying nothing, those on the inside know they are. All are sweet, very sweet on this year‘s team. They know better than any one else how things are going at practices. It‘s the pep and the willingness of the playâ€" ers to work that appeals to the fans. It sticks out this year as never better. The team that beats Weston this seaâ€" son will have to be better than anyâ€" thing that has played around here for years. Next Saturday will see the opening gaumiel tor the idocal= senlor‘ O.A.L.A. team.. Our seniors, the iron men as they were called last ‘year,. will meet the Torontos at the Beach. This will be the test. During the week the boys have been working hard; they are in the pink of condition. From the practices it would seem that Weston will have the‘best team that has ever represented‘ this town,. ‘The team will be picked from the following: Goal, Fred. Rowntrée; defence, Tote Farr, Map Holley, Tank Beecham, Gord. Harris, Bill Coulter, Jack Matâ€" tison, Jim Holley; centre, Earle Stevâ€" enson, Nels Reily; home, Eddie Kingâ€" dom, Ken. Kingdom, H. Coulter, Fred Hugill, sandy Karns, Dodie Coulter, Gordon Dickin, Jimmy Coulter; Neil Felker, coach; Walter / Lee, trainer. Some team!â€" and good enough to win any place. $ is receiving special instructions from Harry about. the game. In ia few years most of them will find places in the Senior team." Take a walk over and see the little fellows handle their sticks, check, and‘" step around the field. . They are being taught the game at the proper age and by the proper man. ‘This is what will count in a few years and will make a true citiâ€" zenship. It is something worth while, St. Mary‘s withdrawal . from. the senior series has not landed them in a soft place for a championship. Hamilton‘.. has some team. Last year they made a good: showing in the game. During the past few weeks they have, been working quietly, building up a better team for this year ‘They have a team that could hold its own . with the senior elubs. Montreal, . Cornwall, | St. Catharines and many other centres will have some of their men on this team. Geo. Farr, one of the best home players in the game, will captain this strong team. Harry Jennings, the father of the Midget lacrosse of the town, is deservâ€" in gof special mention. Over at the High School grounds almost every night you‘ll see Harry with about 25 or 30 youngsters. BEach of these kids Some of the wise ones think the Intermediate champions . will defeat winners of the Senior series. It will certainly (be some game. Weston should be oné of the finalists in the play off. Mimico has gone out in the open market for players. They are not sayâ€" ing much, but names have leaked out that makes it look as if Mimico ought to be in the final. > } Durham â€" have two â€"| intermediate teams. One is said to be the best that has ever been gathered together in northâ€"western Ontario. Orangeville is grouped with these fast teams. What chance. will the lacrosse: fans have to see Orangeville in the final this year? LACROSSE S P O R T S The following is the schedule for the Juvenile Seriesâ€"Group No. 3. | _ June 3â€"Weston at Shamrocks xJune â€"7â€"Beaches at Maitlands ‘ June 10â€"Shamrocks at Victorias â€"Maitlands at Weston xJune 14â€"Weston at Victorias i/ In group II. St. Kitt‘s played the newâ€"comers to the Senior series the Shamrock.. ‘As was expected, the Toâ€" , ronto boys were noâ€" match for the | bunch from across the lake, Red Milâ€" I ler‘s name does not appear on St. Kitt‘s lineâ€"up. If he had been there, the score would have been much larger. Red was one of the‘ best home men | that played in Weston last year. If | St. Kitt‘s could only. field the same team away from home that they line _up for their home games, we would ! have them winners of group II. It‘s l a hard town to play in and its a mighty good team that beats them on l their own sand pile. 5 Thistletown Epworth League Being the third week of the month, the Social Department held a social evening.
