Canon Gould, General Secretary of the missionary society of the Church of England in Canada, sounded an optimistic note in his adâ€" dress at St. John‘s Church last Sunday morning. , The fact that last year, a year of great depression both in comâ€" mercial â€" and. industrial circles, / the Church of England in this country had raised over and above all that was reâ€" quired for running expenses the large sum of about $750,000 was an indicaâ€" tion in his opinion that the interest in tlie work of the church was very great, In addition to this the Amount raised for missions had,been increased by about $20,000, the total for this purpose of over $200,000 being the largest the missionary society had ever received.
