Griffith to be one of the greatest pictures ever proâ€" duced and a document from life, Richâ€" ard Barthelmess‘ new starring producâ€" tion. "Fury," in which Dorothy Gish plays opposite him, is a classic of the sea. Unlike the way most pictures of the sea are â€"made, Mr. Barthelmess and hisâ€"supporting company lived for three weeks on an old schooner minus all comforts and conveniences, undergoing the same experiences as fall to the men who still sail the seven seas in windâ€" jammers. No part of education is more imâ€" portant to young woman than the soâ€" ciety of the other sex of her own age. â€"Burnap. D. W. GRIFFITH LISTS "FURY" AMONG SCREEN‘S GREATEST When angered, the best of us mistake our own motives, as we do those of the enemy who inflames us.â€"Thacheray. There seem to be but three ways for a nation to acquire wealth. ‘The first is by war, as the Romans did, in plundering their conquered neighbors â€"this is robbery; the second by comâ€" merce, which is generally cheating; the third by agriculture, the ‘only honest way, wherein man receives a real inâ€" crease of the seed ‘thrown., into the ground, in akind of continual miracle, wrought by the hand of God‘ in his favor, as a reward for his innocent life and his virtwous industry.â€"Franklin. If we are going to have a race in armaments for bombing raids, there is no use â€" discussing . houseâ€"building schemes. We ought to_be discussing the construction of _ rabbit holes and dugâ€"outs.â€"Robert, Nichol, M.P. All free governments, whatever their name, are in «reality governments by public opinion; and it is oneâ€"the qualâ€" ity of this public opinion that their prosperity depends.â€"J. R. Lowell. "The mathematics _ of â€" navigation â€" became clear to me. 'e'hc Paramount picture, "The Law of the Lawless," starring Dorothy Dalâ€" ton, will be the feature at the Oakâ€" wood next Thursday, Friday and Satâ€" urday, 23â€"24â€"25. Many gypsy stories have been filmed but few in the colorâ€" ful, settings that distinguished this proâ€" duction.‘ Miss Dalton is superb in her characterization of the hotâ€"headed, spirâ€" ited Tartar girl. She is ably supported by «Theodore: Kosloff, who plays the part of her cowardly Tartar lover, and Charles de Roche, the French cinema star, in the role of Costa, a gypsy chief. As the love affair of these three unâ€" tangles, one of the most interesting motion pictures ever seen at this theaâ€" tre is unfolded. In addition to the trio of leading players, the picture has an excellent supporting cast which includes Tully Marshall, in a featured role, Fred Huntley and Margaret Loomis. When once a man is determined to believe, the very absurdity of the doeâ€" trine does but confirm him in his faith. â€"â€"lntuitis, If you want to make friends, interest yourselves in the affairs of others; don‘t try to interest them in . yours., i vIt‘s a lonesome life though, in spite of the fact that you are never alone. MOUNT DENNIS THE TIMES AND GUIDE, WESTON Rev. Professor Langford will take the services at the Islington Methodist Church on Sunday next. Mr. Marshall has spent the past week visiting his brother at Islington. Mr. Marshall has just returned from a trip to England, where he had much to do with the result of the lifting of the embargo on cattle. Owing to the weather conditions, the Bowling Club feel rather uncertain as to the success of their tournament. It is just possible that owing to the heavy rain the tournament will be postponed. If this is so, further notice will be published in these columns next week. It is rather disappointing to those who have made preparations to have to put them off.: Also a large number of tournaments, were scheduled for Wedâ€" nesday, 15th. If postponement is made, telephone messages will be sent to all clubs. Canada has another: opportunity of showing that the story, of the martyred Armenia has sunk into the hearts and stirred the consciences of her people. The Armenian . Relief Association of Canada has purchased a farm, 135 ac. in extent, near <Georgetown, . and brought out in May the first party of 50 little Armenian boys, whom it is hoped to transform: into skilled Canaâ€" dian farmers and fruit growers. _A second party will be brought to Canâ€" ada in September if the friends of Arâ€" menia supply the needed funds. ‘The children are all orphans. Many of them witnessed the murder of their parents in pursuance of the infamous order of Talaat Bey issued on Septemâ€" ber 16, 1915, that the Turkish Govâ€" etnment "had determined to destroy completely all Armenians living in Turâ€" key." Talaat instructed the Government of Aleppo that "an end must be put to their existence, however criminal the measures taken may be, and no regard must be paid to cither age or sex, nor to conscientious seruples." ! Business in and about Islington is seriously ‘handicapped by the number of people who do business here being away on their vacations. One of the pretty streets that imâ€" press the individual who visits lslingâ€" ton is Canning Ave. This fine street, from the school grounds, presents a very attractive class of homes. The re sidents of this street seem to take a great pride in their homesteads. A few of the weeds are making their appearance through the cinders in front of the parking space at the school. It, would . do considerable towards the beautifying of the town i#f these were kept cut down. Mr. Aurchambreau has returned afâ€" ter‘ a very successful fishing trip in the northern country, and has the usual scaly stories to tell. Mr. Bob Marshall had a vyvery sucâ€" cessful trip to the lakes of Bobcageon and reports fishing as very very good this season. He has caught one of the largest he has ever secured. Mr. Ray Price has also been holiâ€" daying and incidentally taking in a litâ€" tle fishing. watermains. It will not be long before sewerage will be the ecry of the whole district. Long Branch held a very successful community gathering on school section No. 12 on Saturday afternoon.. Counâ€" cillor Appleby was present and endearâ€" ed himself to many of the children. A large new and attractive sign is being erected by. the Irwin Lumber Co., that stands out to all the trains passing through the town. After the slaughter of the parents of these Armenian orphans, some of the less bloodthirsty Turkish officials and officers tried to save the children by gathering them together and feeding them. Talaat, with a ferocity far beâ€" yond that of Herod, issued a suppleâ€" mental order to the Government of Alâ€" eppo in‘ these words: ‘ ‘The touwnship is still receiving deâ€" bentures for local. improvement and "Collect the children of the Armenâ€" ians who by order of the War Office have beern gathered together and cared for by : the military authorities. Take them away on the pretext that they are to be looked after by the Deportation Committee, so as not to arouse suspicâ€" ion. Destroy them and report." They were not all destroyed. Since. the close of the war seventy thousand of them have been gathered out of the hands of the Turks,. There is need not only for money to bring to Canada and maintain till they are selfâ€"supporting the relatively few who thus can be proâ€" vided for, but not less than 75,000 are required at once as Canada‘s share of the Lord Mayor‘s Fund for the upkeep of the orphans in Corfu and elsewhere for whom the fund has assumed responâ€" sibility. There are 1,400 herded in grain bins that take the place of beds. In one room, 20 by 20 feet, there were recently 66 sick children. ‘The condiâ€" tion of these children is pitiable in the ‘extreme, and Canadians are asked not only to finance the bringing out of the parties of boys, and later girls, who are to be given a chance to grow up in Canada, but to care for some of the great army of fatherless and motherâ€" less boys and girls for whom provisâ€" ion must be made in the Near East. Last week Rev. Mr. Irwin attended the Rural Leaders Convention at the Oâ€"A~.C Mr. Wood, of Toronto, took . the evening services on Sunday in place of the Pastor, and gave a very impressive message to the congregation. We are very, glad to hear that Misses Irene Phillips and Vera Irwin were successful in obtaining their Norâ€" mal Entrance Examinations. The Rev. Mr. Irwin and family are leaving Wednesday of this week for two weeks‘ vacation at Windermere, Muskoka. > It is not, as yet, known who will officiate at the services on Sunday, Aug. 19th. S ~(rjrnr-'\;v'eidnlévsday, Aug. 24, under auspices of the Ladies‘ Aid of Downsview. . Methodist â€" Church, a zaar will be held on the church grounds. There will be a sale of useful articles, fish pond, and a very good program given by both outside and local talent. Miss Irene Phillips is visiting with friends in Mono Road. It is especially noted ?that this change in reading equally applies to adults. The growth of the librariâ€" an‘s work is shown by the totals. Naâ€" turally, year by year, the Board must needs buy an increasing quantity of books. One ‘of the best ways of spending a spare halfâ€"hour is in a visit to the reading room, where nearly thirâ€" ty periodicals give the best thoughts of able minds on all subjects of popuâ€" larinterest. The Illustrated London News is a special. treat for those who with good reason believe that Britain is leading the world in democratic proâ€" gress. The National Geographic is anâ€" other wonder travel magazine with marâ€" vellous piclures. Do you love a beautiâ€" ful or uséfulâ€"garden? There is the best magazine to keep you posted. Paâ€" rents should encourage their children to read the Children‘s Newspaper and My Magazine, two periodicals of wonâ€" derful interest to young or old. And so we could go through the list. They are all Available instantly in the reading room and later in the home if you wait your turn. It affords the board pleasâ€" ure to see the library more completely filling the needs of our town so well that Weston is one of a few libraries in the Province with the highest cireula tion per capita. fictton ..>~. Per cent. Non Total On_ Monday afternoon the fire deâ€" partment of Weston were called to the Fair Grounds. The cause. of the fire was due to the dried grassâ€"and weeds catching fire and thence spreading to the hydro electric poles. Thirteen of these poles were badly damaged. The firemen are to be highly comâ€" mended for their excellent work under great difficulties. . It was necessary, in order to reach the blaze, to lay 750 feet of hose. This should be looked after and the commission should see that hyâ€" drants and proper facilities are placed on the Fair Grounds or within reach, as a blaze might easily then be checkâ€" ed more quickly. It should also be a warning to the small boys and men to take extra precaution in throwing away cigar butts, cigarette butts and ugnted" matches, as the grass ‘at the present time is in a very dry state and it will not take long to ignite to the slightest spark. Weston has been very fortunate lateâ€" ly in having no really serious fires for some time.
