Mr. Lloyd Watt, formerly of West Toronto, has opened a hardware store at Islington. Although he has not at present completed his stock, nevertheâ€" less he has a wonderful assortment of electrical appliances and fixtures. He also has the following agencies, for which he is the sole representative in the district: Hotpoint ranges and elecâ€" trical appliances, Edison Mazda lamps, Benjamin More paints, and City Serâ€" vice gasoline and oils. In addition to this, he is able to take care of any electrical repairs that you may reâ€" quire, and he is also in a position . to give estimates on electric wiring. In fact we have a real live asset to the public life of Islington. Mr. Roy Baggs, of Oshawa, is spending holidays with his parents at Downsview. ! A certain resident in Islington, whilst glancing through The Evening Telegram, espied an article on sale at Eaton‘s, that she needed very much. Having no phone of her own, she calmâ€" ly walks into one of the few stores in Islington and perlightly asks the proâ€" prietor to phone through to Eaton‘s for her, knowing that he was selling the same article at the same price. Oh! that word Sale. Mr. Knechtal, of Nesbit Ave., proâ€" ceeding to Southampton on Tuesday of last week to attend thefuneral of his mother, met with an~ accident ten miles from Southampton. He reports that he awas forced into the ditch by a car travelling at a high rate of speed and using those _ everâ€"troublesome headlights. We are pleased to see that Mr. Jas. Surridge is able to get about again. Mr. Surridge has been confined to his bed now for some weeks, following an accident on the Dundas highway, his car being forced off the Highway, through his inability to see against the glaring headlights of an approaching car. During the period of Exhibition the Imperial Oil is open all night, Mr. Bert Mason performing the duties of night man. We also note that the Transport Service Station have a night staff to cope with the Exhibition trafâ€" fic. On Tuesday morning many kiddies of the Islington district left on their annual visit to Children‘s Day at the Exhibition. Genial "Bob" Marshall, as in former years, was on hand with his truck, and transported a large number of the children to the grounds. A reporter‘s job is not always what it seems, and often he finds himself in tight corners with people, but they certainly see life and hear of some peâ€" culiar things. Here is the latest. The beautiful Islington Century Championship Cup goes to the club whose representative is the winner and is retained by such club for one year, ‘or until the next year‘s event. This tournament was originated by the Islington Club two years ago with the idea of providing a good day‘s outing for century players who reretofore have not had an opporâ€" tunity to compete against each other except at their own club or in home and home matches, and it has resultâ€" ad in many centurians from almost every â€"club in the city taking part. Onâ€" Wednesday, August 24th, the ladies‘ bowling tournament was held on the Islington. bowling green, 24 rinks from all parts of the country were entertained, and under the ideal weather conditions everybody had a wonderful time. All members of other clubs with a century handicap of one or more are eligible to enter. As usual the entry fee will be $1, and such fees to go towards the prize fund for this tournament. ¢ We understand that a petition has been made to the Government whereâ€" by the sixâ€"mile stretch of the old Burnhamthorpe Road, connecting the Dundas Highway and the Centre Rd., will be taken .over by the Ontario Government and made a Provincial Highway. _ _at‘e Rag Under the government plan of payâ€" ing a large part of maintenance and repair costs of county roads it is felt that this short stretch should at least be taken over ‘by the county if not the province. The road is at present regulation width, well drained and lighted, . L sys If the petition meets with success, it will mean that the heavy‘ traffic conditions on Bloor Street and the cross sections . will be considerably relieved and it should prove an allâ€" round advantage for Islington and community, making it a definite conâ€" recting link with the Northern traffic which is steadily increasing.
