THE WESTON TIMES & GUIDE xâ€"16â€"1t Some discussion took place in re/ gard to the recent request for a feelâ€" ing of the Council in the matter of support to the Old Age Pensions, which was declared closed on the preâ€" sentation by Deputy Reeve Clarkson, seconded by Deputy Reeve Gardâ€" lhouse of the following resolution:â€" "That the Council of the Township of Etobicoke voices its strong disapproâ€" val of the suggestion that the muniâ€" cipalities pay 25 per cent. of the penâ€" sions under the Old Age Pensions scheme and that a copy of this resoâ€" lution be forwarded to the local memâ€" bers, and that the Corporation seal be attached to his resolution." In regard to the application of the Long Branch Horticultural Society, Reeve Price received the hearty supâ€" port of the members when he paid high tribute to the work these organâ€" izations were doing in the Township and voiced the opinion that they were entitled to every assistance which it was possible to render. The applicqâ€" tion was concurred in unanimously. Resolution On Old Age Pension §upâ€" port Suggestion hR Reports were received in regard to the complaints which had been subâ€" mitted in the matter of the smoke nuisance in the Spirea Avenue area which in the opinion of Council inâ€" dicated that there was but small cause to complain in regard to the plant in question, the report however, did disclose that there was. considâ€" erable trouble created by the passing engines of the railroad who were the greatest offenders.â€"It was felt that there was no jurisdiction over this situation. In the course of a brief discussion on the report of the T.T.C. relative toâ€"the service on the Lake Shore Rd. Deputy â€" Reeve Marshall expressed himself as surprised that the offiâ€" cials of the road should see fit to unâ€" load a car of passengers, so that a car may be returned to the barns, and pack the following car to an unpleaâ€" sant state. Deputy Reeve Gardhouse concurred in this view . declaring it seemed a shame that passengers should be subjected to this kind of treatment. The feeling prevailed, however, that the T. T. C." officials were endeavouring to meet the ‘calls of the situation on the Lake Shore service and further discussion was closed. it3 We are sorry to report that Miss Vera Whitehead, Main Street South, was taken suddenly ill with septic poisoning last week, and trust she will make a speedy return to .complete health: and strength once more. Deputy Reeve W. E. MacDonald and Assessment Commissioner Scott of New Toronto sought the support of the Councilâ€"of the Township of Etobicoke to an â€" application that would be shortly forwarded to the legislature to declare â€"a portion of Kipling Avenue, a County Road with defined areas of width. The deputaâ€" tion through Deputy ‘Reeve MacDonâ€" ald pointed out the history : of the creation of the road which left its real status in doubt, and that the application under review was to clear up the doubtful situation. Council Deplore Unpleasant Treatâ€" ment of Car Passengers Council considered. the advantages to be derived with a favourable view but finally agreed with Reeve Price that the matter should first be referâ€" red to the Townshipâ€" Solicitor, _on whose report they would be guided by future action, which was unaniâ€" mously agreed uponâ€"and the deputaâ€" tion retired, with an understanding that they would be later advised of. the stand of the local Council in due course. (Continued from Page Seven) years, with marked success. Stating further that the officials of this orâ€" ganization devoted ‘all the funds acâ€" quired surplus to the event to the improvement of (the local _ school grounds, while retaining a small fund for the ensuing years start. Reeve Price expressed the opinion that it would not be advisable to change the course of proceedings in this section but that it may be possible to arranâ€" ge so that the southern portion of the Township area may be brought together on the scheme as suggested, taking in the Humber Bay area, posâ€" sibly. Deputy Reeve Clarkson also exâ€" pressed the opinion that it would not be advisable to upset the arrangeâ€" ments in this section, and further did not see that it was possible to inâ€" clude the areas further to the north in the scheme, and was in accord with the Reeve‘s suggestion. The matter, was left in the hands of the deputation for them to deal with on the lines intimated. j ETOBICOKE TOWNSHIP COUNCIL AGAINST OLD AGE PENSION A deputation composed of some fourteen representatives from Kipâ€" ling Avenue district appeared in reâ€" gard to the trouble they were experâ€" iencing in the matter of the change of water course which had been éfâ€" fected through the construction of the roadway, a change which the spokesâ€" man of the party Mr. Gormlay intiâ€" matedhad altered a water route that had been in vogue for possibly fifâ€" ty or sixty years. Considerable time was taken up in the review of the situation and hearâ€" ing the views of the several members of the deputation, who cited their respective troubles and gave intimate history of the situation which had maintained in the vicinity both ‘in years past and since the creation ..of the improved roadway. uie Council Will Inspect Kipling Water. shed Area Engineer McNichol was invited to tender information on the. situation by the Reeve, and all members of Council took an active part in disâ€" cussing the situation with the discusâ€" sion being ultimately closed with Reeve Price declaring that in the cirâ€" cumstances the best plan would be for the whole Council to go down and make a thorough review of the situâ€" ation when the weather had cleared so they may judge as to what would be the best course to follow to alleâ€" viate the trouble that appeared to be evident from the ‘reports. Members of the deputation appeared satisfied with this suggestion which was unâ€" animously concurred in by the â€"Counâ€" cil, and thanks was tendered for the consideration of the matter by.
