A special meeting of the ratepayâ€" ers of the Islington school district is called for October the 16th. This meeting is a special meeting to disâ€" cuss the purchase of a new school site west of the village. All property owners should not fail to be at this meeting as the majority rules, and a large attendance is desired. These questions should be decided by a large majority of the taxpayers and it is urgent that all who can attend to do so that this matter will receive due consideration and be properly dealt with. The Trustees in calling this special meeting have done so at the request of a petition signed by a number of ratepayers of this district. The Ladies‘ Association (Young Ladies‘ Section) held a sale of baking on Saturday, October 5th, at Islingâ€" ton. They report that the sale was a real success and wish to thank all those who so kindly helped with bakâ€" ing and buying. . _ Mr/ and Mrs. Fred MacPherson have moved to the city for the winâ€" ter. Mr. Walter Walker and Mercer Garbutt were hosts to several friends over the past week end at a stag party held in the Kawartha Lakes district. Fishing was poor and water rough. However, the boys made sevâ€" efz.rflaï¬ real attempts to catch the finny olk. It is rumored that the wedding bells will be ringing a few times this month in and around Islington. Get your confetti and tin cans ready. Mr. and Mrs. Wyant and family are moving back to Islington. They will reside on Nesbitt Ave. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jefferson are t]z_le1 proud parents of a bouncing baby girl. It is noteworthy to mention that several motorists were observed the other day paying a wonderful attenâ€" tion to the ornate signs along the Dundas Highway denoting a school crossing, this is creditable to the auâ€" toists, and speaks well for the useâ€" fulness of the somewhat different sign, which is distinctive in design and colour. The declaration that the settlement of the Township is persistently growâ€" ing is confirmed in the numerous apâ€" plications which are being placed beâ€" fore the Council for the installation of water services and the enlargeâ€" ment of water areas. This is generâ€" ally remarked upon by members of the Council as a most healthy indiâ€" cation of growth, which will no doubt take a forward jump next spring. Touching on the general state of the citizens of the Township of Etoâ€" bicoke from a health point of view, Dr. Bull the Township M.O.H. declarâ€" ed that the records indicate an almost perfect state for so large an area, whose population was increasing very rapidly each year. Dr. Emerson Bull was approached on the situation and while discussing the situation in a more or less generâ€" al manner was non committal, except to definitely declare iin response to a question that he was not in the field, at any rate for this event, though he was prepared to be actively interestâ€" ed in the contest as far as the calls of duty would permit. Plans are being made for large contingents of supporters for all the respective possible nominees to have their followers present at the Town Hall in Weston on Saturday afterâ€" noon next in full force, and there has every appearance of being quite a warm time. There is nothing clearly definite inâ€" regard to the possible stand of Deâ€" puty Reeve I. C. Woolner, though he may still accept the nomination; there is however, a presistent intimaâ€" tion that that well known Liberal stalwart Gus Edwards, may step into the arena before the nomination date closes. Considerable comment is heard in the district of Islington on election points, with much speculation as to the course which will be pursued by the Hon. Dr. Godfrey, now being facâ€" ed with the prospect of lady comâ€" petitors in the field. There are deâ€" finite rumours that besides Mrs. Kennedy, who is entering as an Inâ€" dependent prohibitionist, there is also Mrs. (Rev.) Forbes, of Weston, a likely aspirant.
