t When bombs rain over England, the children are haddled into great caveâ€"like cellars to sleep in what comfort they may. One of the small comforts which their Canadian cousins make for them is a commodity of the Canadian Junior Red Cross called a "bomb kit". This little bag contains a toothbrush, comb, bobbie pins and other toilet articles. Bomb kits are sent in quantities to England as part of the :finipmont for supervisors on duty in bomb shelters. far greater importance, however, is the work which the Junior Red Cross maintains for children whose homes have been demolished. The Canadian Junior Red Cross is now entirely supporting and clothing the children of 14 nurseries in Eng)-nd to which the homeless, often parentâ€" less children of the blitz are brought by the English Waifs and Strays Bociety. Here they are given expert medical care, warmed, clothed and fed, and here the long task of rehabilitation begins. Kach English nursery receives from the Canadian Junior Red Cross $3 a year to pay for heat, light, staff, food and equipment, and in add it receives ample outfits of ¢lothing made and bought in Canada. Last year the Junior Red Cross of Toronto alone sent to British children more than 19,000 articles of clothing. During the Red Cross Campaign, remember the children, neediest of all. Let Ko-r heart carry your hand to your pocket and giveâ€"more than pau have ever given before. The Red Cross needs $10,000,000 now. | W A N T ~‘tires: Apply 9 Joseph Street, "Weston. 0â€"15â€"1w ~BSEWING MACHINE SPECIAL | WE HAVE a limited number of new treadles and hand portables. "‘There is _ much behind the elimination of Stafford Industries that can not be printed . . . The players tried hard, but they didâ€" n‘t have that extra spark in the playâ€"offs tha carried them to the top all season . . . Jack Stafford, the team‘s sponsor, is too good a sport to let his defeat terminate his interest in hockey and other sports. _ However, â€" Staff, â€" has learned, much to his sorrow that even doing the right thing doesâ€" n‘t pay, when certain fellows reâ€" fuse to play the game according to rules. series for the Les Allen Memorial Trophy which is emblematic of the league championship and as we go to press the issue as to who will meet Alfie Moore‘s DeHavilâ€" land sextet is undecided. will see the O.H.A. rules with the exception of changing on the fly in vo&ue. Of course that means that the "iceing the puck" rule will be in effect and that one litâ€" tle rule might cause the aircraftâ€" ers plenty of grief. With teams in the Mercantile loop allowed to ice the puck during the regular season and semiâ€"final games, the DeHavilland sextet have worked themselves into a state of perfecâ€" tion under the present, system. Whether Alfie Moore‘s team can carry the frozen rise out just as well as shoot it up the ice reâ€" mains to be seen, ‘ NEXT SATURDAY swings the liip into the best three out of five ONE THING is definitely cerâ€" tain they work like the proverbial million under their present system of play. Blue line thumpers as Les Vickerly, Johnnie Hamiiton, and Ellis Pringle, backed by the smart goal tending displays of Alex Brownlee, round out a perâ€" feect background for their strong defensive efforts. The aircrafters suffered a tough loss when Andy Bellemer was relegated to the sidelines for the scason a week again Wednesday night when he fractured his cheekbone in the Stafford tilt, However, Manager Ellis Pringle stepped right into the breach and "%ig Ellis* surely looked impressive in his appearâ€" ance last Saturday against .Osâ€" tranders. â€" A GLANCE over the scoring records shows three of the blue sweatered Ostranders in the scaâ€" son‘s Big Five. After a check and recheck, Gordie DeLaat and Bill McComb were declared dyal chamâ€" pions of the season and while the honoring of two scoring chamâ€" pions in one season is a bit unâ€" usual the loser is Jack Ostrander the cup donor. However the extra miniature that the genial sportsâ€" man has to come through with will be good for a‘ speech just twice as long as usual at the leafue's comâ€" ing banquet. Bill McMullen was the other Ostrander representative that hit the charmed circle, finishâ€" ing in fifth place with a thirty point total. _ _ _ WITHOUT any comment from this corner we give you a paraâ€" graph from Bunny "Sport Slants" Morganson of the Telegram, Says Bunny: C Bowling is a healthy sport! Toronto‘s "allia’nbors and hepâ€" cats held one of their greatest jam sessions last Monday night when over 4,000 of them crowded into the Humber Pier Rollerdrome to hear Vaughn Monroe and his solid senders.
