Owing« to renovation proceeding at the Legion Hall, the sessions of the Baptist Sunday school and the evening service are not being held during August. A special grogrnmme is being prepared for unday, Sept. 1 when activities will be resumed. In the meantime affairs are not dormant in that a picnic has been planned to be held at Fundale Park on Saturday, August 24. Departâ€" ure from the usual routine will be a morning start about 11 a.m.. a noon lunch, and an early return in the evening. Another item of ifterest is that a lot has been bought on Elmhurst Drive, as a site for a new building to house the present services and weekâ€"day activities which have been denied us by the lack of reâ€" gular facilities. i’t is hoped that when we resume on Sept. 1 that ‘matters may be so far advanced that some announcement of plans in this connection may be made. THE RAVEN GETS HIS FACES WASHED â€" He has ‘at least a dozen of them and with the crown of the topmost head 65 feet from the ground, it was quite a job. However, the Raven kept quite stilJ, as he has ever since the Haidas carved him out of a cedar trunk many years ago in the Queen Charlotte Islands; he didn‘t snap his beak at the cleaners, or even wriggle. The totem pole, which stands in the Canadian National Railways station grounds at Jasper, was being groomed for the tourist season in North America‘s largest national park. Thousands of visitors to the Canadian Rockies have photographed him. Thistletown â€"Nixon Waterman, TIMES AND GUIDE, WESTON WASH RAVEN‘S FACE Birthday greetings go to Mr. J. P. McAlhone of Weston. Friends and neighbours, are very sorry to hear of the sudden illness of Mr. Gordon Evans. Well known in the district it was quite a shock to friends and neighbours to hear he had been rushe&fto the hospital. He has all our best wishes for a speedy recovery. He is in the Brampton Hospital. We hear also that. Mr. W..Moare is back in Hospital (General) and went under another operation, on Saturday morning. Wfie hope you will soon be on the road to good health once more. On Monday, Aug. 5, one of the Humber Summit tugâ€"oâ€"war team members said you can put an item in the paper that we won the cup. Well I thought the games had been held but it seems‘ that he was only fooling at the time. Later in the day, lo and behold, there was a lovely silver cup in the H. S. post office. The Humber Summit men had won it for sure and you can certainly be sure that we are proud of you all. Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. L. Dawe, Knox Ave. on the birth of a daughter. Mr. W. Ouderkirk, has had a second operation, and is coming along pretty good, we are glad to hear that. On Saturday, August 10, the Niagara Bus, trip took place. The weather manâ€"was very kind to us, we didn‘t have one x31'0;) of rain, although it clouded over onte or twice. We had as one of the pasâ€" sengers, Mrs. Evans of Woodâ€" bridge, 90 years young, and that was her first trip to the Falls. Well you can imagine how she enâ€" joyed every minute of it, she said even the drive along the Queen Elizabeth Highway was grand. Well the eldest and youngest at the picnic had their pictures taken, Mrs. Evans, Sr., 90, and John Campbell, 17 months, of H. S. Another feature of the trip was the number of grandmothers there. Nine in all, grandfathers as well, and one great grandmother. After seeing the falls, in all their colored glory the homeward trip began, arriving back in Humber Summit at 12.30. The committee thank all who patronized this excursion. Everyone had a grand time. Visitors to Humber Summit this week were: MY.
