People who will not accept the experience of others should take a few minutes off and Jook at the dreadful rpsults caused by those who fail to heed the warning. If you must drink strong liquor at this season of the ‘;year, then lock your car, or do not drive yourself. Statistics show definitely that the * individual who does drink strong liquor is less capable of handling a car. At this season Oof the year with the road conditions as they ‘are, it i# imperative that those Keople who ‘are at the wheel should have all their visionâ€" ary power, all their intellect, nerves and , imuscles at their highest efficiency. For your sown sake, for the sake of your family and . friends, plan to drive carefully. Do not attempt to mix gasoline and whiskey, gin, eocktails, beer or wines or any of these conâ€" eoctions that rob men of their efficiency. Yes, the foregoing may be visionary, it may seem to be impossible with the strife, the enmity, hatred and malice that is paraâ€" mount today; it does seem that such ideals are beyond the grasp of the present generaâ€" tion. Looking backâ€"over the pages of history you will realize that progress has been made since the advent of the first great Christmas. Social responsibility has developed and the people of the universe have assumed many duties that were not countenanced. Progress has resulted from the advent of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Greater progress €an be made, and would be made, if the spirit which has captivated the people throughout the globe, could be put into‘effect 365 days in the year. There would be a year‘s truce of all bickerings, sharp practices, dishonest dealing, sordid thoughts and deedsâ€"in their place love of brotherhood would‘ reign suâ€" preme. Can you visualize what this means to each of us as individuals, to our respective communities, to ourâ€"social life, to all the uniâ€" verse, to the united nations who legislate for the happiness of the people of the world? They would have their support and endorsaâ€" tion, for there would be no more suspicion, &nd diplomacy would be frank and outâ€" spoken. May we soon generate this thought â€"peace on earth good will toward man, into action and may the action lead it to become the regular habitâ€"thus assuring a destiny that will be in keeping with the purpose of man‘s life. « DRIVE WITH CAUTION CHRISTMAS AND MUSIC It is thought that inspires the act. It is the act that becomes the habit and the habit leads to the destiny. If the spirit of Christâ€" mas created in that first great message that aroused the interest of the three wise men aud the shepherds, and drew them, to the Babe of Bethichem ; peace on earth good will towards man could be inculcated into the heart of man and our destiny would be inâ€" viting. "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he," is a truism. If every individual would sit down and think over this great message which has moved the people of .the universe, and would endeavor not only at the Christâ€" mas season, but throughout the whole year, to put into action; then there would be a true brotherhood established. Social stability would be the desire of all and a unity of happiness would reign supreme. Chaos would be turned into a perfect peace; life would inspire man to a higher idealism. Brotherhood thus established would influâ€" ence all to achieve true happiness. Life would lead to a greater comprehension of inâ€" dividual responsibility to each other. JEAN PERKS, News Editor It is estimated that over nine hundred wars havebeen fought in the past 2,500 years. Of course, that‘s not eonnting‘the spats that wives win over their hus nds every day of the year. The ‘successful business man uses the brains God gave him, the liberties his govâ€" ernment gives him, the help that labor gives him and the confidence the public gives him. It‘s all a gift. Yet he takes to himself the credit for his success. . The government begins to think it has given too much liberty and starts to take some back. Labor thinks iï¬a_s given too much help* with too little reward and strikes for more pay or more power. The public teo may begin to think they have put too much conâ€" fidence in business men and, by ballot or by bullets, it "votes" in some other system. Orily God does not take back His gifts. _ . Unquestionable honesty is the right anâ€" swer to any question, Some.take more than credit. They take all the traffic will bear. They hire brains they haven‘t got themselves, employ more and more labor, take more and more liberty and seqla]k to capture more and more public good will. Some business men stubbornly fight these trends. Others express new willingness to work. with government, and labor and the public. It may be, however, that nothing less than a new willingness to work with God can stop the trend that is sweeping the business man out of the saddle. God gave him not only brains but a heart. And, unless he cares for his government, his workers and his cusâ€" fomers, anything he may do for, with or against them falls on barren ground. This Christmas, give the best present of all â€"your presence ! & EDITORIAL BRIEFS There has been ‘a feeling that perhaps more new"editions than necessary have been brought out (meaning that pupils had to buy new books) and also that improper pressure may have been brought for some books to be officially used. . â€" No matter how much mortey you spend on Christmas or how much love and thought you put into your Christmas plansâ€"it won‘t mean a thing if anything happens to you or your family. 4 An accident can be tragic any time, but at Christmas it is doubly tragic. And yet the Christmas season is ruined in thousands of homes every year by suffering and tragedy from accidents that need never have happenâ€" ed. Many a Christmas tree has become a mocking reminder of someone not there to enjoy it.. The whole spirit of Christmas is "Peace on earth, good will to men"â€"the spirit of kindâ€" ness, courtesy and cordiality. How can this spirit be better expressed than in a little extra care and courtesy at the wheel of your car and in your home, at your work and in your recreation. It seems a little thing to doâ€"and yet pays off big in ha]g)iness, security and freedom from pain and tragedy. It costs nothing, takes no time and requires only a little thought and effort. It wouldn‘t be surprising if this inquiry grew into an investigation of the whole field of text book buying. and if so it. will probably do a lot of good. The practice of education employees drawing royalties on books they have written has been going on now for years and it always has caused some resentment. You may not realize it, but the one thing your family wants most around the Christmas tree is your presence, not your presents. And don‘t let the synics tell you different. A welcome development of the Hope Comâ€" mission on education is the appointment of a subâ€"commission to investigate charges that Department of Education officials have been receiving royalties on religious text books bought by the departmehnt. IT‘S A GIFT YOUR PRESENCE THE BEST PRESENT The notable fact, however, is that this is the only instance of a withdrawal on record since the township area project was started. There was no assurance from the local authorities that the sthool wouldn‘t be abanâ€" doned, and the application for withdrawal was granted. The Inspector for the district now has the matter in hand and it is hoped thlat he may be able to reach a satisfactory solution. INVESTIGATE SCHOOL BOOKS A rare instance of opposition happened reâ€" cently in Glendale near London. The Glendale authorities, who at first had entered the scheme, later asked to withdraw. They fearâ€" ed that in the reorganization their local school would be abandoned in favor of a new central building to be built a few miles away. We are all conscious of the fact that thought is the main factor in our daily round, in our tasks, our homes, our churches. Thought directs and guides, steadies and adjusts. All, by their right thinking, can exert an influence for good. It was the "poor wise‘ man" in Ecclesiastes who delivered the city, "yet no man remembered that same poor man" (Ecclesiastes 9: 15). Although he was unknown and perhaps unapâ€" preciated, nevertheless his wise thinking was felt and because of it the way 6 deliver the city was found. Does not this imply that he ‘who is endeavoring to be Godâ€"governed and Godâ€"inspired, be he prince or peasant, senator or clerk, can, proâ€" portionately to his faithful adherâ€" ence to divine principle, be a puriâ€" fier of human thought and,a light in his community? Men are occuâ€" pied these days in considering ways and means of adjusting and coâ€" ordinating the affairs of nations, and smrelÂ¥l every right endeavor to accomplish this task is a step in the right direction. But the best humah efforts, of themselves, are inadequate to cope with the unâ€" precedented â€" situation and enorâ€" mous problems facing mankind today.
