Those of us who travel will not forget the trips we make these daysâ€"along "the golden lined roads" both near and far afield. Yes! this cg:clist slipped out of Weston last Friday unnoticed by any save the Chief of Police who enquired "off on a trip." By 8 p.m. Barrie was reached by No. 27 highâ€" way which is in excellent shape. Barrie‘s parking meters? Installed, tested and now scrapped! As he pulled up outside an Orillia regâ€" taurant an Orillian shouted "Hello Bronco, how long have you been out 415 p.m Washago was the night stop. The following day a stop was made at "Fairhaven", 3 miles south of Gravenhurst to visit Mr. and Mrs. Conder, Gord. and Jack. The Conders have moved to Fairâ€" haven from Weston and have a most excellent tourist camp right on No. 11 highway in a well secludâ€" ed part. Drop in and see them, Mr. Reader, on your way north. E And so on to Bracebridge and Huntsville, which by cyclometer, reads 154 miles from Weston. One mile north the writer turned east and was he glad to miss from then on the many cars whose drivers, in their mad lust for speed, disregard all solid highway lines on corners and hills. No doubt the majority of such, in reaching their summer cottages will be saying to their wivesâ€""What are we going to do 4.15 p.m 4.15 p.m 430 p.m now And so, as the sun began to slip to rest behind this cyclist, the full colour of the glorious autumn tints unfolded itself, not only on the woods and glades in front but on the roadway, snake fences and even his cycle. Believe it! the unâ€" matched sundrenched hues of a fall eve, hushed in blessed peace as night draw night. Yes! Folks can have their parties, shows and bingos, but give me a light cycle and such a road like this. 0 So onto Dwight and down dale to Dorest, the latter village‘s inâ€" habitants _ out aâ€"shopping â€" and aâ€"gossiping, for it was Saturday night. â€" o Folks, up Dorset way, evidently don‘t lie aâ€"bed on a Sunday when the sun and air well nigh begs.one to get up and go out. Here was Mr. F‘re(g1 Brigden of the famed Toronto Brigden Firm out at 9 a.m. sketching. There‘s another out for a fishing trip, another on a hike. And so I bade ‘Au Revoir‘ to pretty Dorset, tucked away it seemed, in a peaceful valley far from the noisy dims of city life. Little did I expect that I was to again cycle over a typical road of those I travelled on, 3 months ago 500 miles away in the Adirondacks. Twentyâ€"nine subjects ranging from machine shop to sewing are presented for the benefit of students and from all reports, most classes are wellâ€"filled this season. Probablty more people were turnâ€" ed away from sewing classes than any other subject. A new study in the curriculum is the effective speech class. Althouih this is the first season such a subject has been introduced, the results are satisâ€" factory and the registration in that class is good. _ _ . s mss ts "Adult education is made up of two fi'p“ or groups of: people," said Mr. Worden, "First, there are those {wopie who want a hobby, and we believe that we can help them along that line,. and then ‘therg en Sm o t en ts are those who have experienced definite vocational needs in the carrying out of their occupations." Ee o e o e en esns Mr. Worden went on to say that "with â€"the fortyâ€"five hour week, workers feel that they need someâ€" thing useful to make use of inâ€" creasing off time, and in a night school like this, there is a wide scope of interests and subjects to satisfy every need and provide reâ€" creafional avocations for every person so desiring." skirted with the woods whose trees were dressed in the golden tints of fall, Yes! the camera clicked many times on the wayâ€"passing Minden, Canarvon, Mimers Bay. By night Beaverton‘s light came in view and m stop was made. Peipe . By 9.30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day this Weston cyclist was testâ€" ing the high winds of Simcoe counâ€" ty on it‘s lakes south shore road. A steady pace and a low gear is the answer, _ _ £ Port Bolster, Virginia, Sutton, Keswick to Autrora to see Weston‘s Racing man, Jim Marsh, compete in the cycle race there. And so home to dear old Weston, 4 days of joyâ€" ful travel along 345 miles of multiâ€" coloured roads of many counties. And the writer still meets folks whose only idea of cycling is a series of grunts, groans and pushâ€" ing, he feels so sorry for such! â€" Flats? â€" Trouble? â€" never a spanner was used, |_ _ _ _ _ ‘Cos they never knew how â€"to cycle in the easy way and what is more on a light cycle, easy as we who ride them know full well from practical experience. i y â€" Lk . e E) @EAL SPU + y h ~â€"yâ€" es n m hor ,___â€" HALLOWE‘EN VANDALISM THING OF THE PASTâ€" ‘ORGANIZED RECREATION PROGRAM . _ _ | "7° } 2c roomie ty , ELECHAICAL .CON Ts v»v“’«;' w C ~% 4 | hhâ€"w e . 24 $ 4 ‘A> : m e Ee ime We s We in d : xt t J V EVENINGS PHONE oo ' e * ieA s . o S Ed ill‘i\' s * 3 % %,%" 5 * e i P + o. Started six years ago, the club has a membership of 110 and is the driving force behind the Westop community council, made up of all organizations interested in recreation for young and old, As a result of the program, not a single child has been injured in a traffic accident for over two years, and vandalism, even on Halâ€" lowe‘en, has disappaared. "We have organized parties Halâ€" lowe‘en night," said Gordon Alcott, director of recreation for the town. "Last year more than 2,100 chilâ€" dren attended while the year before they were inaugurated considerable damage was done by revellers and a number of lads appeared in juvenile court. Now the kids don‘t even bother to soap windows on Oct. 31." â€" It all began two years ago when Dr. Alan Bull, Eresident of the Weston Lions club, started a move to build a skating rink, The club obtained two buifdings and at a cost of five or six hundred dollars had them_ moved gnto the fairâ€" grounds. Each building was renoâ€" vated and fully equipped as dressâ€" ing rooms for boys and girls. A fullâ€"time caretaker now is on the job continuously at Weston‘ Recreâ€" ation Centre to watch over activiâ€" ties in the lacrosse box, where soccer and hockey are played, four tennis court, three softball and one baseball diamond, a football field and the $1,200 openâ€"air dance floor the club recently built, 20. "At present we have a tender in to buy No. 13 drill hall at Malton," revealed E. D. Banting, a director of the club. On Saturday morning, October 18th, fiftyâ€"five girls between the ages of six and eleven years of age, registered for the new dance class at the Weston YWCA. Miss June Woodman, of the School of Physical Education at_ Toronto University is in charge of the class and will be giving instruction in games, various kinds of ~dancing including tap and folk, and in tumbling. Miss Mary Ellen Roos, a member of the Weston YWCA will be assisting Miss Woodman with the class, _ _ wal It is expected that this type of program will be increasingly popuâ€" lar not only with children but in time, with the grownâ€"up members of the Weston YWCA, as has been evidenced by the keen interest and enthusiasm already shown.
