of the story it is, I cannot judge for 1 must confess never to have read this one of Dicken‘s earliest and wittiest works. Mr. Tweed has created the characters of Charles Dickens and his wife Kate to more or less hold the series together by reviewing the preceding installâ€" ment each program and by enticing the listener to listen to the next program if any enticing other than the story itself is needed. The actâ€" ing in this twentyâ€"three program series is generally quite excellent and the production by Andy "Stage ‘49" Allen is up to his usual high standards. I liked John Drainie‘s acting particularly in a small part in the Novvember 29th broadcast. C PLEASE NOTE: We shall be pleased to receive any information about local entertainment events of importance after their occurâ€" rence so that this column may include an account ofe same. _ The evening did accomplish a little serious work as members of the almuni elected a committee to plan the activities for the coming year. The committee elected were: Jim Cole, Dean Newton, Brock Morley, Vern Plant, Ivan Taylor, Neil MceDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hall. The committee has planned to coâ€"operate more with the schools. Bill Thompson‘s orchestra played for the dancing pleasure and some lively entertainment was provided by an alumni quartette, Dean Newton, Ken Newton, Jim Martin and an unknown assistant. Various other special games and novelty dances were held during the evening. A total of one hundred and twenty couples attended the "club" and the evening was a big success if the amount of fun had by the participants is anybarometer. A beauty contest for "Miss Alumni" was particularly hilarious, since four of the boys were the "beauty" contestants. â€" Ivan Taylor, the master of ceremonies for the evening, organized this contest, giving each of the boys an oldâ€" fashioned ladies‘ hat and asking his "escort" to make him up. Thei decision was made by judging the applause of the wives and girll friends. f The ‘Annual Alumni Dance for Weston Collegiate, which promises to become one of the big annual affairs in coming years, was held this season on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Club Top Hat. The big doings were held out of town because of the power interruptions that were in effect when the meetâ€" ing was planned and it was thought that they would disrupt the dance. ’ There: is no evidence from any other country that there is a ‘Nlofionlhip between the kinema and juvenile delinquency. The kinema keeps boys out of mischief, men out of public houses and girls from the streets. Things are not more acute than they were before kinemas, but kinemas are a conâ€" venient scapegoat, like the penny dreadful of its day. Investigators have never found any correlation between delinquency and attending kinemas. Kinema clubs have come to stay. They can be an influence for good, but as they are a comâ€" mercial proposition, it is important the situation should be watched with care." When the kinema is blamed for a child going wrong, it will generaaly be found that such a child is one who woulgl go wrong in any case. Antiâ€"social conduct arises from deeper causes than the imitation of things done on the sereen. The following is a clipping from a London, England daily newsâ€" mi in which the Magistrates‘ from corrupting h.u:a:‘ morals e ‘s and being the direct result of children turning to erime. Kinemaâ€"going is seldom, if ever, the cause of children turning to crime; rather does it keep them out of mischief. Percy says its too early to talk about Christmas. He says he doesn‘t think it‘s Christmas time until there‘s snow on the ground and people start to try to sell him New Year‘s cards, Of course, he doesn‘t know what he‘s talking about for Christmas is in your heart and can be celebrated at any time. But my two particular reasons for starting this week are: the long list of Christmas records available, and the desire of many people to get their Christmas shopâ€" ping done early.â€"Percy wants to know what Christmas I‘m talking about, and if it‘s this year, why he has all his shopping done already. Yessir, Percy is giving everyone on his list a five dollar bill and he‘s giving it to them this week too with the subtle reminder, "It Ts More Blessed To Give Than To Receive."
