A most pleasant evening was enjoyed by all who participated and it was very satisâ€" factory to see the Hall filled to capacity. The Executive wish to thank the Business Men of Weston and others, who so very kindly donated the prizes, which helped to make the evening such a success, The first prize for Bridge was won by Miss Savage and was donâ€" ated by a local merchant. Balson Recent Bride Of Donald Shields Bronze and yellow "mums formâ€" ed the setting for a quiet wedding in Westminster United Church on Saturday, November 27th, when Elizabeth Agnes Balson, eldest "daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Balson, Scarlett road, became the bride of Donald Ernest Shields, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Shields, Leggette avenue, Weston. Rev. C. A. McLaren officiated. Mrs. W. Barry, soloist, sang "Oh Hngpy Was the Day" and "I Love You Truly." Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a grey gabâ€" ardine suit. Her powder blue shoulder length veil was caught by matching ostrich tips and she caried a cascade bouquet of deep ink roses and baby ‘mums. Helen ;letx, her only attendant, wore a green gabardine suit with brown accessories and carried a cascade bouquet of, bronze and yellow *mums. John McLeod was best man and Fred Morris and Donald Brown ushered. A reception folâ€" lowed at Martindale Lodge where the bride‘s mother received in a grey ensemble with grey and black actessories and a corsage of pink roses. The groom‘s mother assistâ€" ed in a gown of wine with black ries and a corsage of Talisâ€" man roses. For the honeymoon the bride donned navy â€" accessories with her grey suit. Upon their reâ€" turn the happy couple will reside in Malton. Mrs. Cruickshank Elected President Presbyterian W.A. When coalâ€"oil lanterns were lit during a power cut at their golden wedding celebration at Pine Point Golf Club, Mr. and Mrs. George Curtis of Weston, recalled that lanterns were used on their wedâ€" ding day in the old Anglican church at Clareville, Weston Couple Observe Golden Anniversary The W. A. of the Presbyterian Church held their regular meeting on Tuesday, November 30th, in the Sunday School room. A pot luck luncheon was enjoyed by many of theâ€"members after which the afterâ€" noon was spent quilting. A business meeting was held during the afterâ€" noon with Mrs. V. McDonald in the chair. Reports of the bazaar held the previous Saturday showed it to be an outstanding success in every way. All the articles on sale found ready buyers and a very gratifying sum was realized. Plans were made to serve a turkey dinner for the men‘s club supper on Dec. 7th. Mrs. J. Wilhelm read the report of the nominating committee and the following officers for 1949 were elected and later installed by‘ Mrs. W. Murray: Hon. President, Mrs. Creelman; past president, Mrs. V. Mrs. Currtis was born at Clareâ€" ville. Her husband was born in Dorchester, England, and they were married November 16, 1898. They have four sons and three daughters, all married except one son, Lorne, at home. There are also six great grandchildren and thirty grandchildren, When he first arrived in Canada, Mr. Curtis worked for his uncle, Mr. George Bagg at Thistletown and afier some years started farming at River Bend near Woodâ€" bridge. ince retiring, he has lived for twentyâ€"five years on Fair Glen Crescent, Weston. Mr. Curtis is now 75 years old. He is an honorary life member of Pine Point Golf Club and the members presented the couple with a purse of money at a reception attended by more than one hundred guests. They were also presented with fifty roses and a three tiered wedding cake. E. Dacker, Lambton avenue, Mount Dennis, and Mrs. J. J. Gilâ€" Married in Christ Church, Worthing, Sussex, England, in 1898, Mr. and Mrs. William Virgoe, Spalding â€" a ven ue, Downsview, quietly marked their golden wedâ€" ding. No celebration was possible as Mr. Virgoe has been confined to the hospital for the past two months. Mr. Virgoe came to Canâ€" adg in 1911, his wife and five chilâ€" dren following him three years later. After residing in Toronto and Hog‘s Hollow, they came to Downsview twentyâ€"five years ago. Mrs. Virgoe was twenty at the time of their marriage and Mr. Virgoe only in his nineteenth year. They have every confidence in early marriages, as they were able to adjust themselves to each other‘s way. Admitting that they had had their ups and downs, yet Mrs, Virgoe says they overcame all difficulties and have lived a happy home life. They see no virtue in easy divorce, and believe that any couple can make good in married life if they are not afraid of hard work, and willing to coâ€"operate with each other. Three children were born since their coming to this country, their eight children being, Mrs. W. Sumâ€" mers, Halifax; William, Toronto; Mrs. Harold Mason, New Toronto; Percy, Leslie, Mrs. Ivor Lewis, and Sidpey, Downsview, and Frederick, Glettgrove avenue, North York. They have twentyâ€"six grandchilâ€" dren and fifteen great grand chilâ€" dren. PERSONALS | The Young People‘s Society of the Weston Presbyterian Church, are holding a social and Christmas party. This party will be held in the church hall, Cross street, on Wednesday evening, December 15. This is the first of a number of social getâ€"togethers that have been planned by this group.
