The horseâ€"drawn vehicle in the lower picture is one that few residents will remember, but which was the form of transportation before the street car was brought into use. Accidents do happen and the old doubleâ€"end street car which travelled along the side of the road on a single track, must have been exceeding the 10 MPH speed limit to jump the rails, The more recent mode of transâ€" Few will remember the horseâ€" drawn "carryâ€"all", a type of stage coach which was popular during the 1800‘s, These did not have any windows, and it is rumoured that on cold days the driver would get out and run alongside in order to keep warm. From there, Weston graduated to the streetâ€"car classâ€"a doubleâ€" end, omeâ€"trolley poie type, which travelled along the side of the road from West Toronto to Woodbridge. Sometime during its service, the route was cut short, and the line ended at the subway in the north end of town. Many were the thrillâ€" ing rides had on this oldâ€"time car, as it rattled and swerved down Black Creek hill, just south of the town, and as a picture in this issue shows, simetimes it failed to make the turn at the bottom. With the installation of trolley coaches in Weston next year, the town will have witnessed four changes of transportation since its incorporation as a village many years ago, * Around 1922 a larger and more "modern" type of streetâ€"car was introduced tp Weston and Mount Dennis residents, which was used until this year, This type became famous far and wide across the Dominion, and was affectionately called the "Red Rocket". Tracks had been moved to the centre of the road meantime, with a double track from St. John‘s road to the city and a single track through Weston: To avoid traffic confusion at West Toronto a loop turnoff was built at Keele street, so that rtation, the "Red Rocket" made its last trip through Weston this ?:ll, and will soon be replaced by the most modern form of travelâ€" the Trolley Coachâ€"shown in the top picture, At present gasoline buses are in operation through the town. From Horses To Street Cars To Trolley Coaches Although the last streetâ€"car was removed only last fall, negotiations to replace it with buses had been “da';"y for npprozir:ahly 18 mon‘ but apparent ies concerned were not u"emhmtlc about the new and moderf trolley tomch installation as was Weston Council. | However .arrarigements were finaily completed and the agreement signed, so that next cars were loaded and unloaded off the main road. year, when the Main street widenâ€" ing and reâ€"paving project has been lm,m the trolley couch will grace Weston streets. .
