The first episode, "Kings in Judea," will Â¥ell the story. of the Wise Men who came to worship the infant Messiah »and of the events leading to Herod‘s lordér for the massacre of the innocents. The series will end on _ Easter Monday, ‘April 18, telling of Â¥he happenings from the time that ~Christ rose from the tomb until productions originating in this conâ€" tinent. ‘The compassion of the Master for the multitude; His anger at the temple moneyâ€"lenders; the horror and suffering at His Crucifixion; and the great joy at His Resurrection are all portrayed, ‘pot in a supernatural manner, but as flesh and blood reality, as someâ€" :“h( that really happened. At the end of the latest contract, for just thirteen weeks, the show may not be reâ€" newed by its sponsor. Item 2.â€"Many American radio stars were recently more than disâ€" appointed when the US Internal Revenue Bureau informed them that they would not be allowed to get by at the flat 25 per cent capital gains tax on deals involving perâ€" sonal services. Income taxes rangâ€" ing up to 77 per cent were avoided in only one case, which involved the sale of the fictional characters, "Amos ‘n‘ Andy," held as property by the bureau. No. doubt NBC sighed with relief for many of their stars had planned to go over to CBS if such a deal was possible. _ Item 3.â€"A Saskatoon boy, Bob McGail, who was an honour graduâ€" ate of the Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto, is the new station manager at CJBC. He was formerly the station‘s assistant manager. "New Look" Spreads to Dailies After some years of "ivory tower" policy, the Toronto evening papers have finally awakened to the fact that radio is here to stay. The newspapers seemingly conâ€" sidered radio as only an advertising competitor, and not as an entertainâ€" ment and education source with which they would have done well to coâ€"operate. This weekly newspaper has realized its responsibility and profit by helping the listener to find the better programs on the dial and giving the listener news about the radio personalities he is interested in. Since this column‘s inception, it has been my privilege and responsibility to highlight in a small way the large store of Canaâ€" dian talent which has been largely "undiscovered" or as yet unâ€" appreciated by the nation. After patting ourselves on the back, we would like to congratulate The Tely who came first with "Kesten‘s Corner" and The Star who boldly plunged in at approxiâ€" mately the same time (perhaps having been warned by Tely advance publicity) with Jack Karr‘s "Showplace." War Losses Will So Be Overcome Britain‘s shipping position has improved so substantially in the past two years as a result of new construction and improved turnâ€" round that her dollar expenditure next year on the chartering or hiring of USA vessels will be almost nil, according to a recent statement by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Alfred Barnes. By 1950 the strength of the British Merchant Fleet will be restored to its prewar condition. The 1949 Edition Of Weston‘s Own Thrilling, Colorful Wintertime Spectacle Let‘s All Go! Weston Theatre‘s weekly proâ€" gram brings to movie goers a varâ€" ied selection of pictures that preâ€" sent, plenty of action, comedy and grim brutal drama. Road TV Rio . â€" _Those three Stars of the famous "Road Pictures" are together again in another hilarious comedy "Road to Rio" which plays the Weston theatre next Monday and Tuesday. Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour team up to bring movie fans 100 minutes of slapâ€"stick comedy, that has the audience crying for more, This picture follows much the same careâ€"free hokumâ€"strewn pattern of previous â€" films, with plenty of subtlety, gags and musical interâ€" ludes, the latter of which is esâ€" !pecially praiseworthy. Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn who, together with Van Johnson and Angela Lansbury, star in the film, "State of the Union," which plays the Mount Dennis Theatre next Wednesday and Thursday. Crosby and Hope portray & couple of musicians whose luck reduces them to carnival shows in tank towns. To escape one carnival owner they stow away on a ship bound for Rio, but are discovered and have to work their passage out by playing in the ship‘s orchestra. The job, of course, is received through the kind help of Dorothy "Sarong" Lamour. Upon Arrival in Rio they form their own orchestra, but fail to get rid of the lovely Dorothy, who is being forced to marry a worthless cousin. The two "boys" get entangled in the dastâ€" ardly plot, and the.picture winds up with Crosby marrying Dottie himself, Recommended for all ages, including the Atomic, â€" Keeper Of The Bees This film adopted from Gene Stratton Porter‘s best selling novel brings Michael Duane and Gloria Henry together in the two leading roles. Tells the story of a disâ€" REVIE W allusioned artist who fights his way back to health and sanity by going into a new and different life in the great outdoors. He is helped along in his recovery by a kindly old ‘beeâ€"keeper, a little orphan boy and a young girl, the latter who falls in love with him. Lots to keep the: romanceâ€"loving audience interâ€" ested, and pionty of ‘good scenery shots. Plays the Weston Theatre Friday and Saturday. Included on the weekâ€"end proâ€" gram is another of Roy Rogers musical, actionâ€"filled cowboy epics, "The Eyes of Texas". Rogers has a good supporting cast including Lynne Roberts, Andy Divine, and is musically upheld by the Sons of the Pioneers. Deals with the tragic death of a philanthropic rancher, listed as accidental, which would have remained so if not exposed by Marshall Roy Rogers. Filmed in trucolou., this picture contains fewer musical interludes than some of Rogers pictures, but is as alâ€" ways enjoyable. > Brute Force _ Starring Burt Lancaster, Hume Cronyn and Charles Bickford, is definitely not light screen fare. It is the brutal, grim sanguinary story of life inside prison walls, and the fate prisoners suffer at the hands of an over ambitious prison guard. Hume Cronyn portrays the ruthless guard. who continually stirs up trouble among the prisonâ€" ers in order to ruin the warden, whose job he wants, Cronyn is killed in a climatic jailâ€"break. State Of The Union AT 7.30.P.M. â€" WESTON RECREATION CENTRE Mount Dennis theatre brings to the screen, "State of the Union", next Wâ€"odnesday .and Thursday, with four topâ€"flight stars in the leading _ roles, Spencer Tracy, Plenty of Supervised Parking Katherine Hepburn, Var Johnson and Angela Lansbury head the cast in this political satire, based on the original stage play. Its the story of a presidential candidate who throws away his chances beâ€" cause he refuses to conform to conventional political lines, and wants to serve the people in his own honest way,,Directed by Frank Capra, it givquvh fans some of ‘the finest acting ever to come out of ‘Hollywood, interspliced with lighter : roments. : Rounding off the middleâ€"ofâ€"theâ€" week bill at Mount Dennis, is "Let‘s Live Again" starring John Emery and Jennifer Holt, Hilarious story of a stuf%y scientist who thinks his brother‘s soul has returned to earth in the body of a dog. Actuâ€" ally the story is impossible, but it makes for go.d comedy, and when you get home you‘ll probably be studying your pet poochâ€"wonderâ€" ing ? 29 ing l A Double Life Strictly drama, made specially for those audiences who like their pictures a little on the grim and serious side, Ronald Colman and Signe Hasso team up in this story of insanity and murder. Colman portrays the part of an actor whose role as Othelio in a Shakespearean play prays on his mind until he actually begins to live the part. He becomes temporarily insane <and commits murder, Not for the kiddies ? To Be Over CJBC Len Petersen has prepared the dramatic portions, and Dr. J. D. M. Griffin of the National Committee on Mental Hygiene, will‘ analyze the behaviour patterns of the people whose cases are dramatized. Listening groups may be arâ€" ranged and study bulletins retained from Mrs. J. Q. Arrowsmith, Ontario Federation of Home and School Association, 79â€" Queen street, Toronto 9. The judge was just about to deâ€" liver his summing up of the case when he noticed that there were only 11 men in the jury box. "Where is the twelfth juryâ€" man?" he asked irritably.
