I think most families feel dinner is never quite comrl'h without dessertâ€" but what a ?rouem this presents to the floor housewife who usually bas such a busy day! I find the easiest solution to this problem is thisâ€"a simple dessert. Ome of my top favourites in this category is Crisp Cranberry Squares. I‘m sure you‘ll be delighted with the interesting flavour of this dessert and, when topped with a blob of whipped cream, it‘s heavenly. As for the recipe, it couldn‘t be simpler to make! Next Sunday‘ Dec. 5 Miss Patricia Bridge, pastâ€" president of the Central United church group, who is now on the provincial executive, will lead the service. Also taking part will be girls from Westminâ€" ster United, and St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian churches. The annual C.GIT. Christ mas Vesper service is to be held next Sunday afternoon in Cenâ€" tral United church and parents and friends of teenâ€"age girls as well as other C.G.LT. groups in the area are invited to attend. WISHFUL THINKING? Last week I was discussing the "Queen of the Castle" Ball with a Lakeshore girl who was planning to attend. She said: "Wouldn‘t it be terrific if a girl from the Lakeâ€" shore could win?" This statement was mostly wishful thinkâ€" ing,, and she went on to say that it would undoubtedly be won by a Toronto girl who had already taken modelling courses and won beauty contests. An his talk he stressed the importance of regular brushâ€" ing, whether the hair is oily or dry, to keep it in good condition. He cautioned against the use of detergents inâ€" stead of egg or oil shampoos, and also the impracticability of using pin curls that break the hair. He suggested rubber curlers for sleeping, or metal clamps for dayâ€"time setting. I‘m not trying to "get off the hook" or get back in good graces again by a promise of a flattering review. Anything I have to say will not be simple flattery, but I promise to say nothing at all if it isn‘t perfectly pleasant. Maybe if I print a better review, Mr. Moher will talk to me before New Year‘s. Last March he promised to stop speaking to me until after the New Year, and the jovial chap is as good as his word. I miss his Irish charm. With the reputation St. Leo‘s Dramatic Club has estabâ€" lished over the years, they will have a production worthy of praise, of this I‘m sure. Hope to see you there! Then Monday morning she called to say excitedly: "Guess what? Irene Snowden, from the Lakeshore ‘Y‘, won the "Queen of the Castle" crown!" Irene said: "No one was.more suprised than me!" She had never won a beauty contest or crown before. The dance was held at Casa Loma last Friday night under the sponsorship of the High Park ‘Y‘ and the West Toronto Kiwanis Club. Irene is an active worker at the Lakeshore ‘Y‘. She has taken a modelling course, and others are benefiting from her experience, since she is a volunteer leader in charge of a Charm Course for young adult women every Monday hight. CHARM COURSE on a fencing scene: "On Guard! Thrust! Thrust!" We conâ€" tinued in lively jest until invited to take our antics out to the backyard. (Since then we returned to the Charleston routine.) Thinking we would be ready for the first night with the Lakeshore Players after fencing, the only activity we had during the practise was climbing a wall. This was a breathâ€" ing exercise we were told to do six times a day from now until we go "on stage". I hope the director doesn‘t read the column, because I must admit we can‘t practise climbâ€" ing walls at home in a basement apartment. If we go upstairs or do the exercise at the office each day, we may end up in straight jackets instead of becoming great actâ€" resses. Soon St. Leo‘s Dramatic Club are presenting a comedy, ‘"The Family Upstairs", to be staged on December 9, 10 and 11. This I particularly want to see. Last March, after reâ€" viewing their St. Patrick‘s musicalâ€"comedy, I managed to get in the bad graces of a few Lakeshore people for writing a personal, not too pleasing criticism. This time I hope they send me press passes to see their play. Fred J. Keeley lectured at the Charm Club, last Monday night, on the care and good grooming habits for the hair. He answered a variety of questions posed by the group, helping each one solve their individual hair problems. For a change my "roommate" and I gave the rest of the residents in our house a treat from the endless Charlesâ€" ton routine we have been trying to perfect. We tried fencing the other night after watching a very poor excuse for acting in a play on television. It was a simple takeâ€"off AT ST. LEO‘S *I was impressed by the frank informality of the lecâ€" ture. More often than not, a lecture on any phase of imâ€" proving the appearance is designed to promote and sell a particular product. At this Charm Course brand names were carefully avoided unless a specific question was asked by the group. Through Irene Snowden‘s Charm Course, a group of women are getting firstâ€"hand knowledge on selfâ€" improvement, without any confusing sales talk. DRAMAH! There will be more to tell you about the progress of the Lakeshore Players as time goes on. 36 Main St. S.
