Fall and winter colds are practically impossible to avoid. However, a day or two in bed at the very beginning of a cold will often make it shortâ€"lived besides protecting others from infection. Colds are in season at this time of year, when weather is unpredictible, warm one day sloppy, wet and cold® the next. Beâ€" sides taking care of yourself ‘with reasonable precautions you have others in the home, school or office to consider. Usually once a member of a family has a cold, sooner or later everyone in the family succumbs. Precautions are relatively simple. The individual with a cold can isolate himself, get lots of sleep and eat proper food. Dishes used by the patient should be kept separate and washed separate« ly. Tissues are better than handkerchiefs. ing shell hats, mitts and satin shoes, carrying a hand bouquet of white mums. In the banquet hall at Crang Plaza the bride‘s mother receivâ€" ed, wearing rose lace and satin gown and hat and white carnaâ€" tion corsage, assisted by the groom‘s mother, wearing powâ€" der blue nylon and net gown and hat trimmed with pearls and brilliants, with a corsage of sal mon sweetheart roses. The bride‘s travelling costume was a rust and brown panaglaze dress under a rust and brown diagonally striped wool coat made in coachman style with a brown velour hat, bronze metalâ€" lic shoes and bag and a corsage of yellow mums. After a honeyâ€" moon to the Laurentians and United.States, they will reside at 211 Main St. North, Weston. Everyone knows the discomfort and loss of time caused by the common cold. If everyone had a sense of resonsibility about not giving their colds to others, the number affected each year would be greatly reduced. The children in pyblic schools throughout Ontario are helping the young victims of Hurrican Hazel with pennies they have donated to the Junior Red Cross. C. B. Routley announced at Ontario Red Cross Headquarters in Toronto that $10,000 of Junior Red Cross funds would be spent on clothing for children including everything from underwear to rubbers. The names and needs of the children are sent to the Red Cross by school inspectors in the districts affected by the hurricane and floods. Local school teachers in the areas are also helping in this way. The following requests have been received to date â€" 87 from Woodbridge; 160 from Ansnorbeld, a Dutch settlement on the Holland Marsh; 15 from Bradford; 53 from Etobicoke. Take the matter of hands, for example. No matter how skilled the last minute manicure, hands neglected for months just can‘t look smooth and glamorous, So now is the time to take thought for your hands if you want them to twinkle at festive affairs. Groomsman was Bev. Eddy and ushers were Bill Thrush, Jim Fitzpatrick, Fred Fox and Frank Best. The gentleman in the wedâ€" ding party wore charcoal grey suits with grey and red ties and white bouttoniers. With the holiday party season approaching, many a woman wishes she had a Fairy Godmother like Cinderella‘s, who could transform her in a trice from her workaday self into a party girl. While beauty salons can do a lot along these lines on short notice, the smart woman knows she can achieve results in her own boudoir â€" if she starts in plenty of time. Start right away using a rich lubricating cream after every washing and at bedtime. Massage the cream into the backs of the hands, then massage each finger separately; pay special atâ€" tention to the knuckles. Try to imagine you are working on a new pair of kid gloves. In incidentally, this msis;ge is good for the muscle tone as well as for the skin. To keep the nail and cuticle well lubricated (nails only grow at the rate of 1/32â€"inch a week) apply cuticle oil daily. Put a few drops at the base of each nail and work into the cuticle, the nail, and sides of the nail, with a rotary motion of the thumb. Hangnails will vanish after a few sessions like this. Relief is in sight for those who suffer from brittle, flaking nails. A new product, Cutex Nail Flex, acts on growing nails to help the brittle, splitting ones return to a normal, healthy condiâ€" tion, It‘s a fragrant, white cream which also helps to keep the cuticle soft and pliable. Start a regular daily schedule now to be sure you won‘t need a Cinderella‘s wand at Christmas. TB SEALS There is less tuberculosis in this community today because of TB Christmas Seals. This is because the sale has provided the funds to conduct free chest xâ€"ray surveys of entire communities. Xâ€"ray is the only means of finding the disease early, when it is most easily curable. More than 2,000,000 free xâ€"rays have been given by the National Sanatorium Association since the free chest xâ€"ray proâ€" gramme was introduced eight years ago. This was the means of discovering more than 4,000 men and women and some children with tuberculosis of a contagious nature. Had their disease not been discovered many of these people might easily have infected thousands of others, especially members of their immediate families and their friends. Fortunately, much of this disease was caught in the early stages. NMinety per cent. of the people who have entered sanaâ€" torium have been discharged and are again enjoying a normal way of life. If everyone took advantage of the free chest xâ€"rays, the disease would be still more greatly reduced. It is through the generous donations for Christmas seals that the chest survey is made possible. Within the next few weeks, you will read the appeal again, and be invited to give support by buying Christmas seals. a PENNIES HELP JAMES MASON OF SILENT PICZ ENACTS MEDIC IN "DRUM BEAT" James Mason, star of the silâ€" ents and not to be confused with James ("A Star Is Born") Maâ€" son, plays a medical corpsman in "Drum Beat," Warner Bros.
