150 Members, Friends Attend YWCA Christmas Carol â€" Sing Children of Weston‘s three public schools participated in the second annual presentation of the Christmas story in song and pantomime by the Weston Home andâ€" School Association, and packed halls on two nights proved the popularity of the proâ€" gramme. A choir of 140 voices from Memorial, King Street and A full house attended both ‘Thursday and Friday presentaâ€" tions of the Weston Home and School‘s Christmas programme in which some 140 children from the three Weston public schools participated. One hundred and fifty Y members and friends gathered in Central United Church Sunâ€" day school room on Wednesday evening, Dec. 15th to particiâ€" pate in a Christmas programme of variety numbers and carol singing. Mr. Colin Wrong was Master of Ceremonies. Variety items on the proâ€" gramme included solos by Mrs. Murray, a pantomime, ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas‘ by the. Board and teenâ€"age girls; Christmas selections by the Pax Orchestra; a read by Mrs. Wilâ€" ey, What Do You Know About Christmas?; a group of German carols by a trio of new Canaâ€" dian girls;.and a group of Dutch new Canadians singing Silent X.L. Bible Class was held at the home of Mrs. J. Milner, John St. on Wednesday evening, Decemâ€" ber 15th. The president, Mrs. Hunter opened the meeting by reading a poem, "The Angel‘s Song", followed by singing Christmas Carols. The devotionâ€" al period was conducted by Mrs. J. Gowland and Mrs. Gordon. After the business was con: eluded Mrs. J. Wood read .the| story, "The gold and ivory tableâ€" eloth", followed by more carols. ; In her welcoming remarks, Mrs. F. E. Wiley, president of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Direcâ€" tors, expressed the joy of the members on the purchase of the house on King St. This was the first time members had had an opportunity to meet as a group since the transaction was completed. Mr. Brum, music director for Weston elementary schools, diâ€" rected the choir work while Mrs. Lily Boyd was in charge of the staging and the speaking parts. Miss Marjory McCutchâ€" eon of Memorial School was in charge of the whole programme. The programme began with the telling of the prophesies of the Messiah, made by the proâ€" phets and as told in the Old Testament. Those in this stage presentation included: Elizabeth Sloan, Peter Caskey and Jim Rouse. Another scene was the manâ€" ger at Bethlchem at the birth of Jesus, the promised Messiah. In this creche scene, designed by Hector Boyd, 15 girls from grades one and two of Memorial school represented the cherubs. The story of the Messiah‘s birth, and the adoration of the shepherds and the wise men was narrated by Lillian Novak, who said that the creche scene was the promise of peace in this world and an assurance of everâ€" lasting righteousness. Many other members of the association participated in the programme by â€" helping with costumes and makeâ€"up and bvith the staging of the concert. The reception given the proâ€" gramme this year is.an indicaâ€" tion of the enthusiasm for such a programme and of the need for it as an annual affair.
