Brownlee Business Administrator The Board of Education for the Township of North York 7 Kenneth Street Willowdale, Ontarie. BA. â€" 1â€"3451. The . police committee was asked to go into the matter urâ€" ther and obtain the feeling of the police association in regard to the payment of overtime in cash instead of time off. A speâ€" cial meeting of council is planâ€" ned for Tuesday, March 27th to deal with the problem and the Chief Constable will be asked to be present in view of the fact that he was not in entire agreement with the recommendation, he felt he must cast the deciding vote on the negative side. On a vote of council on the recommendation ‘of the comâ€" mittee, the committee and the remaining council lined up in opposing camps and a 3â€"3 tie resulted. Mayor Clark said that Mayor Harry Clark said that he took issue with that part of the report asking an increase to three men and thought that it required further thought and study. ‘He contended that alâ€" though he had gone along with the committee in the presentaâ€" tion of the report, a compromise of a recommendation for two men might be more acceptable. Councillor Conroy objected to this suggestion as an unnecesâ€" sary change of policy, one which was accepted in the whole area. The three temporary men would be available at less wages than a third class officer and would be an:economical way of solvâ€" ing the problem until the end of 1955. that he felt that there were sufficient policemen in town and suggested that the police be offered a cash payment in lieu of the overtime due to them in time off. He thought that the men would look favourably upon such a scheme. Delegations members â€" with Councillor Vernon Singer as spokesman, were reminded by the committee that Metro spent nearly $1,000,000 to widen Bathâ€" urst St. from three to four lanes, from Roselawn Ave. to Wilson Ave. Mr. Gardiner stated he will never consent to widening any Metro street to four lanes withâ€" out a parking ban on at least side of the street. A complete parking ban on all Metro fourâ€" lane streets would be a sound objective, he said. Turn Down Plan (Continued from Page 1) ‘ Forecast of an eventual 24â€" hour parking ban on all Metr® fourâ€"lane highways was midé by Mr. Gardiner. _ The committee opposed & North ‘York Council delegation‘d request that the present parkâ€" ing ban on the‘ west side of Bathurst St. south of Wilson be limited to only rush â€" hour periods. : Uniform Metro Parking DOUG DAVIES Full season garden mainten» ance.
