In the same vein, | it may well behoove our counâ€"| cillors to take a much more charitable view of the tremenâ€" dous responsibilities entrusted to | our school board members and make some concrete attempt to assist them materially in disâ€" charging these responsibilities. _ It would appear that the honest admission, by both public bodies, that the division exists would be the first step on the road to muâ€" tual coâ€"operation and underâ€" standing the benefits of which could only accrue to the public good. Somewhere there lies a comâ€" promise between what Council requests of the School Board in the way of information and the publicized fear of School Board members to give council "too much information" which may or may not be used against them at: a future date. i That any local Council should | ever be made to feel that such | a manner of doing business was | necessary certainly reveals to{ the public the deep division that appears to exist between these | two bodies. Such a division could | not have been created overâ€"| night, Such a division will not‘ be easily healed. | Urges Council It is most certainly not in the public interest for two local municipal bodies, entrusted with the responsibilities of the public good, to be continually bickerâ€" ing with each other. At the present time their lies on the record at the municipal offices a resolution which states that no further subdivisions will be processed to the council with regard to the availabliity of school dollars for new school construction. He followed the tracks of the youths to a service station and later spotted them â€" running away from it. When he tried to follow them in his car, PC Nachuk got stuck in the snow and after checking the area on foot he returned to the service station and found it had been broken into. He then got the poâ€" liceman on the beat who aroused the owner of the station and it was found that a car had been stolen from the lot. Another cause of serious tenâ€" sions and fears in families with a marginal income is the lack of medical facilities in North York and the resulting doctor‘s bills which are added to the alâ€" ‘ready great financisl burden ‘caused by high rents, when a |child or parent becomes ill. | If‘ North York‘s population [soars to the estimated 250,000 mark in the next four years, hthere will be an increased deâ€" ‘mand for welfare work. As he drove along Bloor Street, he observed two youths opposite the Centre Town Car Wash actâ€" ing suspiciously. He continued on a short distance, then doused his car lights and parked his car in a lot opposite the youths. While sitting on the floor of his car and observing the youths pacing up and down in front of the service station, he noticed a third youth join them. Later he followed the youths as they travelled west in a Bloor street car, getting off the car at Runnyâ€" mede Ave. Weston P. C. The welfare centre, financed almost entirely by the United Appeal for Metropolitan Toronâ€" to, received $33,808.00 from the Appeal last year. Organized .by the citizens of! North York and Weston a year| ago to meet pressing family and welfare needs the Family Serâ€"| vice Centre helped 360 families | or individuals in its first year.! Social workers gave counselling | service to 235 persons or familâ€" | ies, aided 67 with financial | problems and 58 with health | problems. | There are 15,000 people in North York now who have or who will suffer trom some emoâ€" tional disturbances in their life, and about 7,500 who will be in mental hospitals or under psyâ€" chiatric care." The feelings of isolation which some families are experiencing, particularly mothers with small children, because of lack of transportation facilities in some areas, is very real. They feel cut off from friends and relaâ€" tives, and neglected by the husâ€" band who is many hours away from home. "Almost half of the income of many families, particularly large families, goes to meet high rent or mortgage payâ€" ments. This is causing tensions and anxiety which are seriousâ€" ly affecting the solidarity of family living," Miss Oliver said. Annual Meeting Weston Church The uumber of members to date 61.
